I'll make a proper beginning to this at some point, but this will be here for when I write small stories about my cats so I don't bug people in fanworks.

Please mind any warnings I will leave at the top of stories.
Critiques are welcome, but I would prefer you contacted me through Discord rather than on the thread.
Keep in mind that I do this just for fun, and will leave some things open ended likely to not be continued

POCKITT
[Image: Vweezp1.png]
[CW: very simple/brief mentions of reproduction (literally just a mention cmon now it's a SFW thread), cult/ritual mentions, child abuse mentions]

ORIGIN

  • Originated in Whimsy
  • Created by Velvet in ????
  • "Roo" (name pending) morph created first
  • ????

CULTURE

  • Found spread throughout Taverne, primarily in Hearth, Wonder, and Solitude
  • Extremely low numbers in Consumption due to cult presence
  • Extremely close knit families
  • Family (and community in general) is one of the most important thing to pockitt cultures, be it by blood or chosen
  • Communities work together to support and raise the children within it
  • Abusing another person is seen as one of the worst crimes you could do, regardless of what kind it is
  • Abusing children is considered particularly horrible, and is punished severely in pockitt-dominated communities
  • High numbers of Wax and Velvet worshipers
  • Middling numbers of Grind, Rein, Wane, and Alloy worshipers
  • Low numbers of Wretch worshipers
  • cult mentions
    Show ContentSpoiler:

  • Show ContentSpoiler:

  • Physical disability and mental health conditions are very common among pockitts in Consumption, otherwise rate of disability/conditions is fairly standard
  • Pockitts enjoy hammocks and similarly enveloping sleeping situations, anything that can emulate a pouch
  • Special cloth accessories (not particularly unlike underwear) are made to help line a pockitt's inner pouch to keep things stored in it (and the pockitt themself) clean and safe
  • Books and stories hold special significance to pockitts thanks to Velvet's influence, and it is very common for a family/community to keep records of life and their history
  • Keepsakes are also highly valued due to the stories they can tell, and most pockitts are prone to forming collections of things that hold personal significance to them
  • Due to pockitts being shorter than most other Taverne species, special accommodations are made in buildings and transportation where they can be found (see: extra stairs/stepstools, cushions for seating, etc). Extra care goes into making sure these aren't demeaning/infantilizing in areas where pockitts are respected, in order to give them equal footing at whatever the scenario may be
  • Pockitts went through a traditional schooling structure in Whimsy, and tend to lean towards that if possible
  • Homeschooling however was equally viable, especially if a community had specific lessons and topics they wanted to teach a child (for example, how to survive in the desert for a community in Precipice)
  • Pockitts enjoy cozy homes with less open space than most, and are typically content squeezing larger numbers of pockitts into smaller spaces
  • Messing around with someone else's pocket is very rude and inappropriate! Don't do it!
  • Scars are considered an addition to someone's personal story, and are to be respected
  • To have one's pocket exposed is to show great trust with the people around them...or to have convenience in accessing its contents
  • Pockitts are capable of fighting with their teeth, claws, and tails
  • While not intimidating as other species in Taverne, pockitts are still very capable of holding their own in fights, and are not to be underestimated
  • Theater and literature are hugely valued forms of entertainment for pockitts, though many have found their way into television and cinema in order to tell stories through other mediums
  • Adventure and fantasy stories are most common due to Velvet's influence
  • Velvet is mourned regularly by those still worshiping her after her death, often with altars and offerings
  • Toys are considered very special for pockitts due to Velvet's influence
  • ????

APPEARANCE

  • Pockitts have very smooth, short fur covering their bodies
  • Manes and hair both share "geometric" shapes, forming in large angular chunks
  • Markings are similarly geometric, if present
  • Typically neutral colors with color accents (if any)
  • Pockitt voices are composed of melodic squeaks, hisses, and soft growls
  • No paw pads
  • Tails vary based on morph, but are typically thick, tapered, and very powerful
  • Hair is common, but not always present
  • Range from 3'6-5'6 for "normal" adult height range.
  • Clawed hands and feet
  • Digitigrade legs
  • Half of pockitts (see: life cycle) have pouches referred to as "pockets", typically (but not always) covered up by clothing
  • ????

BIOLOGY

  • Pockitts have skeletons, muscles, nerves, organs, and blood
  • Sharp, uniformly shaped/sized teeth (aside from the "quoll" morph, which has tusks)
  • Omnivorous with a preference towards meat
  • Average energy levels, but excellent stamina
  • Pupil-less eyes
  • No breast tissue
  • Express with exaggerated head movements when looking around (on an artistic/design level, this is to make up for lack of pupils), ears, facial expressions and tails
  • Ear shape varies based on pockitt morph, but upright are most common
  • Excellent hearing
  • Vision can be poor, leading to many pockitts needing glasses/contacts
  • Prone to sleeping in piles together where possible
  • Extremely defensive behaviors around danger, leaning more towards flight over fight
  • Lifespan is 80 years, reaches maturity at 18-20
  • ????

LIFE CYCLE/FAMILY STRUCTURE

  • Reproduce sexually and have dimorphism, the biggest change being half of the population having pouches
  • Pockitts give live birth and have 1-3 children per litter, referred to as kits
  • Kits are quieter than most other species' children, and tend to cluster together or remain near their parents/guardian figures
  • A kit raised without guidance often struggles more than other species, making proper child rearing crucial (by blood or otherwise)
  • Family structure varies hugely based on location and culture, but most rely on an overarching community vs just immediate blood relationships
  • As such, "family" can be applied to a very large group
  • Both casual and committed relationships are valued, though pockitts are often more prone towards the latter
  • Pockitts typically only leave their communities if they have a good reason to, and typically only in adulthood
  • ????

GENETICS

  • Inspired by lagomorphs, rodents, and marsupials
  • Mixed morph children often have a visible mix of traits, such as large ears and tusks on a "mouse"/"quoll" morph individual
  • Hybrid children are prone to inheriting the pocket (if applicable) gene, fur/hair shapes, and their tendency towards pupil-less eyes
  • "Roos" were the first morph created by Velvet
  • Animal basis is very flexible, anything that would fit the general feel of them goes
  • Common mutations include development of pupils, extra eyes, tusks/tusk growth, extra fur growth, tail growth, claw growth, size increase, hunger increase, emotional instability, paranoia, isolating tendencies, territorial urges
  • ????

  PROXIES [Worldbuilding Concept}
Posted by: A_Mi_Manera - 11-12-2019, 12:34 AM - Forum: [WORLDBUILDING] - No Replies

                                                       PROXY FORMS
                                           (Feel Free to Ask Questions)
   _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

The Proxy is a unusual phenomenon typically found among scrap sensitives though observed in others too. To some it's a state of higher being, to others that weird invisible friend their parents assure them isn't real and didn't beat up big Billy at school. Either way, it's a manifestation of some form of inner strength and potential into a physical construct that's there to do a job for a few shreds.

The Proxy typically works on a "Fulfillment" system, granting abilities and strengths correlating to the most urgent desires and needs of those who invoked them into the physical world. How direct or loosely these are interpreted is the result of the natural strengths of the individual. Negative self opinions may also flesh themselves out onto this. Sensitives who invoke their Proxy may find deviations reflective of  the nature of the scraps used to project them.

The Proxy may either manifest as a separate physical entity or overlayed onto the invoker. The former are referred to by some as "Floaters" and the latter as "Layers"

In the case of "Floaters", the Proxy will generally trail close and should they separate too far from the user, dismiss themselves until invoked again. Floaters may mirror the actions of the user who invokes them.

They say a Floater that regularly pantomimes its user is capable of becoming a Layer.

Should a Floater undergo significant traumatic strain or find themselves regularly committing actions dissociative of their invoker, they may become a separate entity. The Floater cannot go too far from their invoker and as such may drag them around like a disobedient dog on a leash. More than often they work out their issues. Misunderstandings happen. Should it go unnoticed for too long one's proxy may end up braver than them. Asking them for advice may sometimes be helpful.

"Layers" manifest over the user to create a transformative state, typically very temporary. Because the Proxy is said to overlap between physical and metaphysical realms, doing intensive work in this state for excessively long periods of time will put heavy strain on the Invoker's original form.

They say those who's Proxy goes from a Floater to a Layer have built up the courage to fight for themselves. Layers gain the physical endurance of the Proxy

Should the Invoker die while the Proxy is overlayed on top of them, every shred in their body will burn out. There will be no scrap left. This is considered true death in most cultures who value the Proxy as a concept.

The Proxy has many regional names, such as "True Self" or "Scrap Formations".

A popular game among those of paranormal or occultist interests, such as witches and moody teenagers, is to create a homunculi to manifest their Proxy temporarily using tarot decks and a organic mass. It's usually fairly safe if tedious to set up. This assumes of course there is no intercepting from unusual entities.

Of note is that Proxies often change in nature overtime. A Proxy may look or function drastically 10 years from when they formed.

They say a Proxy that's changed forms many times over a short period is one that reflects growth or hardship.

They also say should everyone in the room's proxies manifest abruptly, either something terrible that should not exist in this world will exist, or are no longer are in the world they started off in.

In the former, pick a god and pray. It's downhill from there. In the latter, don't bother. Your god won't hear you. Spooky.

They also say there's several kinds of creatures who integrate a proxy into their biology. It's been difficult to confirm how true it is.

Hi! It's me, Timothy! Recently I've been exploring my pocket dimension, and I've noticed it has tons of plants I haven't even seen yet! But I guess they're in my subconscious because I read about them...neat, right? Well, there's this one type of flower that's even more rare than all the others. It grows in Hearth, but it's eluded me for a while, and this place is pretty big...would anyone like to help me find it?

Objective: Help Timothy find the Wax Tears flower!

  [SPECIES DEVELOPMENT] DE'MONERES

DE'MONERES
[Image: splash.png]

[CW: very simple/brief mentions of reproduction (literally just a mention cmon now it's a SFW thread)]

ORIGIN

  • Originated in Monte
  • Created by Stope in ????
  • All morphs but jokers created simultaneously
  • ????

CULTURE

  • Most present in Monte, though there's a significant amount of immigrants to other zones (especially Luxson)
  • More nuclear family structures are common, with two parents and at least one clutch of children
  • Mainly affiliated with Stope and his caste system-based religion/culture in Monte
  • High number of Stope worshipers
  • Middling number of Fallow and XXI worshipers
  • Low number of Anne, Spit and Wretch worshipers
  • Other worshiper numbers vary based on location
  • High rate of physical disability and mental health issues due to the violence seen in Monte
  • Weapons made specifically for de'moneres use are common
  • Jewelry is highly valued, as is fashion
  • Sleep in more "standard" beds, typically with durable blankets and pillows to counteract their rough skin
  • Even partnered de'moneres tend to not share beds, preferring to sleep solitary to avoid tail tangling/potentially hurting each other in their sleep
  • Weaponized fashion goods are highly sought after
  • De'moneres children are educated in more traditional schooling systems up until they reach the age that society considers adulthood, though many drop out to join Monte's caste feuds
  • Housing in Monte tends to accommodate for the extreme height range of de'moneres, providing staggered lofts and large elevators over stairs
  • Losing one's tail and/or horns is considered a mark of shame, and those who want to remain respected in their castes seek out replacements quickly
  • Body mods are extremely common in Monte due to the amount of violence/fighting that occurs
  • De'moneres fight primarily with their teeth, claws, horns, and tails- though any part of themselves that can be weaponized is equally viable
  • Entertainment in Monte is primarily violence or gambling based, with higher stakes seen the higher the caste you're looking at
  • Fashion is a main industry for de'moneres as well
  • Smoking is extremely common with Monte de'moneres, and they do not seem adversely affected by it (which unfortunately is untrue for most people around them)
  • ????

APPEARANCE

  • De'moneres have rough skin that looks smooth from afar, similar to the feeling of a fine grain sandpaper
  • Markings are rare on de'moneres (but not impossible), but many are tattooed due to Monte's leanings towards body modification/customization
  • De'moneres voice sound like crackling, sizzling, and sparking noises, and may uses hisses, growls, and even roars and purrs to emphasize their points
  • Clawed fingers, no paw pads
  • Long, whip like tails with a card suit-inspired tip based on morph
  • Hair is very common and falls in flat, easy to style chunks
  • Hair requires minimal gel and teasing to style, and holds form very easily
  • Height ranges vary heavily based on morph/caste
  • Feet resemble a cross between hooves and shoes, often resembling dress shoes, boots, or heels
  • Cloven hooves are rare in all morphs but graftelles
  • Digitigrade legs
  • Tail tips can be either flat or shaped rings, and vary in shape
  • Typically lower saturation in skin color, but more vibrant colors can be modified
  • Black lipstick tattoos (regardless of gender identity) are considered tradition by most de'moneres regardless of their location (albeit most common in Monte), though the exact color and style varies
  • ????

BIOLOGY

  • De'moneres have skeletons, muscles, nerves, organs, and blood
  • De'moneres skin is bulletproof and very thick, especially around the horns
  • De'moneres have sharp, uniformly shaped teeth, though some have pronounced fangs/tusks
  • Omnivorous but have a strong requirement for pure carbon in their diet, such as coal, graphite, certain kinds of glassy carbon, and diamonds
  • Teeth are capable of biting straight through other species' limbs
  • High energy
  • Consuming diamonds leads to a slight high effect that intensifies based on the diamond's quality, leading to berserk states in those unused to the effects
  • Communicate heavily with her ears, tails, and often exaggerated facial expressions
  • Ears are pointed and are capable of swiveling/flopping as needed
  • Slit pupils are natural, anything else is modified or mutated
  • Tendencies towards territorial behavior
  • Seek out sunlight/warmth
  • Excellent vision in the dark
  • Excellent reflexes
  • Lifespan of 150 years, reach maturity at 18-20, do not usually live this long due to violence/caste system
  • ????

LIFE CYCLE/FAMILY STRUCTURE

  • Reproduce sexually and have small amounts of sexual dimorphism
  • Lay rock-like eggs in clutches of 2-5
  • De'moneres children are typically referred to as kids
  • Kids are very curious and prone to getting into trouble
  • Territorial instincts kick in early on in life, leading to scuffles in schools and among siblings being very common
  • Families are typically nuclear in that they have two parents and at least one clutch of kids, though some families (especially those in territory/caste fights) will have more children in order to bolster their numbers
  • Bloodlines are highly valued and considered one of the most important things to a de'moneres, and to reject it is to be sent immediately into the joker caste
  • In the case of jokers (see species morphs), families are typically entirely chosen or composed of blood families rejected as a whole (typically mixed-morph/hybrids)
  • Committed relationships are valued more than casual ones among Monte de'moneres
  • Leaving the family is uncommon outside of jokers, leading to family homes being either sprawling estates, connected or nearby homes, or very short amounts of distance between them
  • ????

GENETICS

  • Morphs are based on allotypes of carbon and card suits
  • Mixed morph children are almost always put into the joker caste if their mixed traits are visible, though individuals that lean more towards looking like one morph can get by
  • All morphs aside from jokers were made by Stope in the species' initial creation, leading to the caste system being baked into Monte's culture from day one
  • Hybrids typically inherit the flat hair chunks, whip-like tails, and horns
  • Somewhere between human, goatlike, and catlike in appearance
  • Common mutations include ones affecting tail and horns, extra horns, spikes, teeth growth, growth of tusks, multiple eyes, claw growth, hunger increase, territorial behavior worsening, emotional imbalances, and sleep disturbances
  • ????
