SEE: Going back and getting some rest sounds like a pretty good plan, yeah… SEE: But… SEE: Can one of you help walk me back? SEE: I think I’m starting to stabilize, but the weed makes me feel a bit scared- or maybe I’m normally this scared? SEE: …I could really use the help. SAMSON: Oh my g- okay. SAMSON: Then I will walk you back. SAMSON: How is that? Somehow, this feels like a worse idea than you going alone. SEE: S-sure! Yeah! SAMSON: Okay. Todd, you follow behind us, as backup. SAMSON: Roxas, Cayden, just chill I guess. Todd gives a mock salute and grabs his bag. You can't help but feel jittery over the fact that Samson thinks she needs "backup", but you guess you can't really blame her either... You stand up slowly, holding your new handheld close. SEE: Thank you all so much for having me, and for the game, and the weed- SAMSON: Yes, yes, yes, it was nice having you, let's get a move on. Samson starts ushering you out the door. CAYDEN: We'll talk online when you're back to your room! SEE: Yeah thank you bye-! You are promptly shoved out into the trial chamber- looks like the trash bag's been cleaned up. SAMSON: Okay, which was is your door? SEE: Right over here. You point- it’s literally right there. ...you feel kind of silly for asking for help on this one, but better safe than sorry. SAMSON: Well whatdya know? There's nothing scary or dangerous here. SAMSON: Looks like you can walk back just fine. SEE: I guess so... You start walking, trying to ease your nerves up. SAMSON: Oh right. SAMSON: Almost forgot. Samson takes a small satchel out of her bag and hands it to you. SAMSON: This is something we give out to newbies. SAMSON: Consider it a token of goodwill. SAMSON: Or don't. Whatever. You take the satchel carefully, doing your best to open it with one hand- the other full with the power of gaming. SAMSON: Please go back to your room to look through that, I don't want to be standing in the middle of a trial room all day. SEE: Ok!! Got it!! You speed over to your room, power walking as well as your little legs can. SEE: T-thank you again! You are now back in your room. INTERCOM: Welcome back, See. INTERCOM: You have one reward remaining. INTERCOM: You have one question remaining. There’s some kind of tin on your bed with a note nearby. Closer inspection reveals that it’s a cookie tin- you know what cookies are thanks to your cooking skill! They’re supposed to be really delicious treats, oh boy, cookies-! …oh. There’s needles, thread, buttons, and fabric in here. You decide to look at the note. To See, our new favorite healer. Now you can heal things other than TCPs as well- keep Sky safe! Skill courtesy of Skillset Interactive Technologies. The note fills you with knowledge, and before you know it, you’re now aware of toy repair and sewing. Handy! You check out the satchel next. There’s a lot of stuff in here! The satchel contains: Three yogurt drinks, said to be healing A booklet detailing info about the maze and suggestions for rewards A colorful bracelet! You set these goodies aside to look at later. With all that taken care of, you’re pretty winded…and…lonely. Things went pretty well with the gamers, but you couldn’t win over Samson in the end…
Your gaze slides over to the box of mysterious trinkets and devices on the floor- your proxy kit. …the internet did say something about proxies impressing your friends.

You gather your strength. You are mentally exhausted and still more than a little bit high, but you want to do this. Besides, the weed would probably make it stronger, right? Yeah. Let’s rock. [CLICK HERE FOR ANIMATION- 1080P RECOMMENDED]

Oh that’s right, they’re new to the world, the gamers prepared you for this. Wish them a happy birthday!

i second happy birthday! they seem a bit strange, but maybe they're just coming off a bit strong unintentionally, being friendly can't hurt
also ask them if they have a name or would like help with names if they don't considering they just came into existance

oh gee oh gee oh gee oh gee I am tooooo high for this uh...
...Do you wanna play this game with me? Oh man I should get some two player games we can play together... oh, oh wait! I don't have cash (I'm still not quite sure what it is,) but I can use reward points to get rewards! do you want one of those? I can get you something! I have a booklet that has different rewards we can get, do you wanna look through it?
05-28-2022, 06:33 PM
you don't have to do anything if you don't want to, you're a person. I didn't really expect you to be a person but since you are I don't want to really order you around. oh! do you have a name? Can we be friends? oh oh right do you need anything? are you comfortable? I should probably fill you in on stuff.
(I vote that we continue to not care about money and just try and be a friend)

You take in the entity before you- so…this is your proxy. Demanding…money? You are still full of weed and processing this badly. But- SEE: Well…happy birthday! SEE: Do you have a name? ???: Birthday? ...what- ???: ...Whatever. Anyway! ???: Name? Not likely. ???: You can call me anything, pick a favorite. ???: Go with Minsky if you don't have a clue. MINSKY: None of that matters, though! MINSKY: I need you thinking big picture right now, kid! MINSKY: You? Should be thinking about getting me cash. SEE: I don't have cash, but... SEE: I can use these things called impressions to get rewards! SEE: Do you want one? I could get you something! MINSKY: Sure, yeah, whatever. MINSKY: If you can get some money as your reward, and then kindly reward it to me, then I'm sure you'll get what you want! MINSKY: Whatever that is! You aren't sure about this whole...money thing. Something about it feels weird. SEE: I guess...I can ask? SEE: I have this big catalog full of stuff, though! SEE: You don't have to do anything, you're your own person, but... SEE: I dunno! SEE: Do you need anything else? Are you comfortable? SEE: ...can we be friends? MINSKY: Am I comfor- MINSKY: Friends? Your proxy gives an exasperated sigh, leaning down to get more on your level. MINSKY: Listen. Kid. They put a hand on your shoulder. MINSKY: Buddy. Pal. MINSKY: We're...Already friends, aren't we? MINSKY: You trust me, don't you? Minsky doesn't give you time to answer that. MINSKY: 'Course you do. MINSKY: So I need you to work with me here. MINSKY: Why all this hesitation? MINSKY: You're never gonna get anywhere in life if you always hesitate. They lean their head down by your shoulder, pointing off into the distance, at...the wall. MINSKY: I need You to see My vision for you. MINSKY: And that is: The proxy steps away, making a square with their fingers and framing you inside of it. MINSKY: You. MINSKY: Successful. MINSKY: With everything you want. MINSKY: A real risk-taker. MINSKY: A real money-maker. They wave their hands out in an arc. MINSKY: Someone who's going places! With that, they lean against the wall, waiting expectantly. I got to choose my name, are you sure you want to be so flippant about it? also I don't want money, I never wanted money. I didn't know what money is until you showed up and it doesn't seem at all useful to me. what do you need money for? you seem fine to me. can't we play games together and just have a good time? I understand the big picture is important, but so is the little picture, and the little picture is you and me, here now. why can't we enjoy that? there's no rush.
(do not give Minsky money)

Ah. A vision for us. That sounds...familiar.
I don't want to be anything anyone else wants us to be. Not a dedicated healer, not a...money-maker, but what we want to be. Let's put our foot down here. We're not giving them any money, cash, whatever. Friends don't give each other gifts expecting something in return. They just give stuff! So the minute they stop pressuring us to do what they want, then we'll talk. For now, let's open our laptop. We can chat with Cayden and them! And maybe look up stuff about proxies.
05-29-2022, 12:58 AM
Ok, you show up and start talking about a whole bunch of hooey, a lot of which I'm not sure is even a real thing (money? Sounds Hella fake) so, you're either going to chill out, give us a good explanation or zip it and let us look stuff up ourself or you're getting dismissed back whence you came. Capiche Minskthusela?

A vision for you…that sounds…familiar. SEE: Ohhh no, I’m not gonna be anything someone else wants me to be. SEE: I don’t want money! I barely know what money is and had no idea until you showed up! SEE: I can give you stuff from rewards, but friends don’t give each other gifts expecting something in return. I think. SEE: They just…give stuff! Because it’s good! Your proxy rolls their eyes. MINSKY: You can be anything you want, then! MINSKY: Makes no difference to me. MINSKY: And you don't need to worry about getting anything in return. MINSKY: Just get some money, for me, however you can. MINSKY: ...Is this stuff getting through t'you? MINSKY: I'd like to think I explained that pretty clearly already, kid. SEE: Nope! SEE: I'm...going to ask my friends about this! And the internet! MINSKY: Nooo, nono you don't need t- MINSKY: But You- MINSKY: Aren't WE friends? MINSKY: You said so yourself! MINSKY: So why do you need to ask Anybody Else? MINSKY: Don't you trust me? We've been through So Much in the last... three minutes! You give the proxy a look. SEE: ...if we're friends, why can't we just play games together and take our time? MINSKY: Cause- MINSKY: It's- They're floundering, glancing around the room as they try to work out what to say. MINSKY: Cause it's kind of a waste, right? MINSKY: Allllllll that time spent playing games, and doing... other things- MINSKY: Who needs all that, right? Takes soooo much time. MINSKY: Why not skip to the FUN part? MINSKY: Whaddya say, sport? You are already hopping up onto your bed and opening up your laptop. MINSKY: Wait, th- MINSKY: What'd I SAY?! SEE: This stuff isn't a waste! SEE: A friend told me that it's important to find things that make life worthwhile, even if they're little things! Like games, or food, or learning about new things! MINSKY: First time for everything, huh? MINSKY: Nope. Just comes from having a proxy. MINSKY: Get used to it, kid. Okay, okay, whatever, no, you are not going to focus on that right now. You're going to sit down and message Cayden and hug Sky and- You startle hard enough to stand up on the bed, nearly knocking your laptop over. Did it get used up?! This is all so much, you’re too high for this still, oh no- Minsky raises a brow, noticing your expression. MINSKY: Change your mind? SEE: No, just- SEE: My doll! Sky! Did it get used up in the ritual?! As you frantically search around, you feel something flop atop your laptop, turning to find Sky now laying on it. Minsky avoids eye contact. MINSKY: See? Told you. MINSKY: Friends. You latch onto the doll immediately, giving it a squeeze. SEE: ...thanks. SEE: I...still want to talk to my friends about this, though. SEE: They might be able to give me some advice- and maybe you, too. SEE: If you're my friend, then maybe you can be theirs, and it'll be good. MINSKY: ...But we're such a good Duo, you and I! MINSKY: We don't need anybody else, right? MINSKY: ...Now, about that- You have already opened up MessiRoom, Minsky fuming in the corner. From what I remember from looking up good communication skills, it seems like Minsky doesn't have that many - they didn't really listen, or stay sincere, or any of that. Maybe we could help them with that? Let's open our browser in another tab if we can and look up what to do if your proxy wants cash, and how to get along better with them, and maybe how to help them be better in turn?
I'd also like to use our reward to get a skill in psychology - while the people who've tried to manipulate us so far have been pretty obvious about it, I'm worried we're gonna meet people subtler about it as we go on. It might also help us understand the people around us better, Minsky too! Oh! We should probably put them in our journal too, along with everyone else's names. Should we ask Minsky their pronouns? after all that though, let's type back to Cayden in Messiroom. I don't want to jump straight into it, I'm worried they might not want to hear about it right now. But I think asking them for advice may be our best bet. hi cayden! ill put those in in a little bit i got back ok! thanks for all your help with everything, and for the game, and the gift pack! you guys are really nice! uh i was wondering if i could ask some advice about something? its ok if not!!
05-31-2022, 02:29 AM
It'd probably be a good idea to try to find like, the definition of cash or something on the internet and to give that a quick read over. That way you might have more of an idea of why Minksy might want it.

MINSKY: No reason to share all that, can't we keep this between us? MINSKY: Between friends? You realize: Minsky is still standing by the wall. SEE: A- SEE: Are you spying on me?! MINSKY: Spying? MINSKY: How's it spying? MINSKY: You see what I see, so it only makes sense I'd be able to do the same, right? MINSKY: I can't not see it, kid. You huff, not enjoying this revelation. [SEA_AND_SKY]: um [SEA_AND_SKY]: i did look up a bit! and it seemed like a good way to get stronger so i could help people! [SEA_AND_SKY]: i dont know much about the...entity, the kit said i wouldn't need to worry about finding a "signal" or something... [Carouser]: thats weird [Carouser]: looking at what ive got here [Carouser]: it looks like finding a signal is pretty important [Carouser]: gotta find the one that's right for you sorta [Carouser]: lotta dangerous ones if youre not careful [Carouser]: guess you were pretuned to one that likes money? [SEA_AND_SKY]: oh....hm [SEA_AND_SKY]: i might look some stuff up, but what should i do?? [SEA_AND_SKY]: i...they were nice to me when i was freaking out and i want to be friends with them but they keep trying to make me get them money and shit [Carouser]: i mean if you want to you can use an impression [Carouser]: give them a credit card or something [Carouser]: or you could give them a non monetary gift if you wanna go that route [Carouser]: might not work but who knows if encouraging the money thing is a good idea You look up again. SEE: Is a credit card something you want? SEE: ...I don't know what they are. MINSKY: ...Yep. Yes. SEE: What about...other gifts? SEE: If money is like, used for goods and services, I can use impressions for the same thing. MINSKY: ...To get me money, right? MINSKY: That's what I'm Assuming you mean by 'Other Gifts'. Minsky leans in. MINSKY: Right, pal? SEE: No, like- I could get you, uh... SEE: Game stuff! So we could play games together! SEE: Or books to read, so we can learn things! SEE: All kinds of stuff! MINSKY: ...Riddle me this, kid: MINSKY: If you get me Money... MINSKY: Why would I need Anything Else? SEE: ...I mean... SEE: You can't give the overseers money for things, I don't think? SEE: And that's the only way I've gotten stuff... SEE: Could you even do anything with it? Minsky pauses. MINSKY: You- MINSKY: You let me worry about all that stuff, kid! MINSKY: Just get me some. [SEA_AND_SKY]: ok they are really fucking insistent on the money thing [SEA_AND_SKY]: i offered the credit card and they got excited but then they didnt want other gifts [Carouser]: okay hmmmmmm [Carouser]: yeah i dunno [Carouser]: just do whatever seems best to you i guess You sigh, not sure what to do at this point. [SEA_AND_SKY]: ok...i'm going to look up some stuff. okay listen minsky, if you can explain to me what you need the money for i can maybe understand you better?
cause so far to me it seems nonsensical, but clearly to you it means *something* and as your friend I would like to understand your needs and struggles and so far you just kept deflecting, but if you want me to trust you and help you then i have to understand what's going on I'm not saying I'll change my opinion on money necessarily, but maybe we can find some middle ground? I dunno... It's just pretty weird to me that you just started existing and already have this strong need for something that does not seem to be able to *do* things where we are

MINSKY: What'd you sign over, kid? MINSKY: Did you make a bad deal? SEE: I- I didn't sign over anything! SEE: I just showed them Sky and they made you! SEE: ...hold on. [Carouser]: like, you know that they're sort of a combination of you and whatever entity you pacted, right? SEE: Look! The proxy stares at the screen. MINSKY: ...Nope. They turn their nose up. Minksy... I'm sorry. I wanted a proxy to get stronger, but I didn't think things through, and you ended up getting a raw deal. But you are your own person, and I can't justify using you like some kind of tool or weapon, even if you did manage to get something out of it.
regarding how you came into existence, Part of me is in you, and part of the entity, but that just makes up the root of who you are. like me being tiny and made of chocolate. I didn't decide that would be part of myself, but I spawned like this just the same. AHEM, the circumstances of our birth are irrelevant, it's what we do with the gift of life that determines who you are. so who are you? are you really someone who wants money they can't spend? Are you a friend? That's up to you.

We should probably go over our rewards and the catalog real quick to see if there's anything we need (how big is our satchel?) Before we head out.
I don't know if I want to go, but I have to. Would you like to come with, Minsky, or stay here? You can play my game if you want, just start a new save and don't overwrite mine. Same deal for the laptop, separate profile but do what you want with it.

Yeah! Sure thing, just lemme grab ooone thing real quick...
I think what we'll need for our next meeting with Max is a psychology skill, and some cash just in case. Let's use our reward to get ourselves to psychology skill to start. (OOC: If you guys don't wanna go for that skill though, that's fine too! I realize I've mentioned it a fair few times at this point so I don't come across as like. Pushy about it or anything.)

SEE: Let me just…grab a thing. Minsky leans against the wall, watching you. You press the intercom button. SEE: Overseers? INTERCOM: Yes, See? SEE: I'd like to redeem a psychology skill. INTERCOM: Very good choice. INTERCOM: Dispensing... The familiar sound of something coming down the chute echoes through the room- opening the door reveals a skill note. You pick up the note and start reading it, reeling back as the knowledge of psychology flows through you...there's a lot to take in, and a lot of it scares you...but you think you can handle things like Max confrontations a lot better now. INTERCOM: You have no rewards, and one question remaining. SEE: I'll ask the question later...thanks. You walk over to Minsky, pausing. Minsky's eyes narrow slightly. MINSKY: ...You spent your reward on...a slip of paper? They lean down a little, looking you over. MINSKY: What did that do? MINSKY: You know you could've wised up and spent it on what I asked you for, already. SEE: ...it taught me about how people's minds work. You poke at their chest. SEE: You included. They shake their head. MINSKY: Uh-huh, whatever you say, kid. SEE: ...it'll help with some other people who could cause us trouble, too. SEE: It's a good thing. MINSKY: ...Big talk, but you know I'd be an even Bigger help, if you'd just get me- You try to keep your patience in check- -and fail, the power of your new skill and what's left of the weed filling you with the energy to make some kind of comeback. SEE: Okay, how would you deal with someone trying to trick and lie to other TCPs? MINSKY: Trick and lie better than them. MINSKY: Simple. SEE: We are not- You stop and just kind of stare at them before walking forward, heading down the hallway. Minsky follows you along. MINSKY: It'd work! SEE: That's not how I want to do things. You reach the end of the hallway, only to see...a panel of buttons. SEE: ...weird. MINSKY: Gotta play the game, champ. They stop with you, looking at the buttons on the wall. Minsky looks like they're about to speak, but refrain. You take a closer look at the buttons- there's ten of them, and only one is lit up, labeled with the number 1. SEE: I guess I just... You push the button, and before you can react, glass doors close behind both of you. Minsky glances back, holding onto the back wall as the elevator you're in begins to rise. You watch as the hallway you were just in lowers out of your vision, disappearing entirely as all you can see through the glass is pitch-black nothing. Your proxy grumbles, fighting for space with you in the tiny box. Your patience wanes even further, feeling extremely claustrophobic and more and more anxious as time goes on. MINSKY: This is definitely you-sized. SEE: I don't think they were planning for both of us to be here! MINSKY: Well, they should be more considerate! SEE: C-can't you use your ~powers~ or something to make this less cramped? SEE: Wait, no- MINSKY: I MIGHT if you got me MON- The chamber you're in stops, sending both of you stumbling. Minsky inadvertently trips over you, and you smack into the wall at the same time they do. SEE: MINSKY- MINSKY: WATCH WHERE YOU'RE GOING- SEE: YOU WATCH WHERE YOU'RE- You slowly right yourself, and feel a horrible feeling form in the bottom of your chest as you look out the window. There's a giant black pit directly downward outside. Some sort of funnel leads straight down into it. The room itself looks to be the inside of a huge tower, with colors ascending all the way up to the brightly-painted ceiling, far, far above you... Across from you at your right and left, you spot two other TCPs in similar elevators, both of whom are currently staring at you and Minsky arguing. The larger one sits facing away from the pit, staring at you over her shoulder. Her expression is difficult to read, but you can see her gripping something hard in her hand - her claw-less hand. She says nothing. The other TCP is about Minsky's size; colorful and serpentine. It looks battered and exhausted, covered in bruises and cuts. More than that, it's got a hefty backpack with several knick-knacks sticking out that you can't yet identify. Its eyes are wide in shock, sight drifting between your crowded elevator and that of the larger TCP. Minsky situates enough to lean on the side of the elevator. MINSKY: Well, here's your shot. MINSKY: Try not to blow it, kid. MINSKY: If you get into trouble- They lean down to whisper. MINSKY: -maybe con one of these two out of any money they've got. The proxy pulls back up. MINSKY: Then I'm sure I can help you out with whatever you need.

You can’t help but look embarrassed about your bickering with Minsky, but you figure you should make a good impression all the same. SEE: Uh…hi! SEE: Sorry about the arguing, we’re, uh. Going through it. SEE: I’m See, and this is Minsky. SEE: …y’all been here long? The snake glances between the two of you and the larger TCP across the room. ????(1): ...I don't...know...? ????(1): I lost track. ????(1): ...what're you here for? ????(1): Why're there Two of you in there? SEE: That's, uh- Do you tell it about Minsky? About magic, proxies, the works? You glance over at Minsky for help. Minsky leans against the back wall of your elevator despite having little room to do so. They begin whistling. The larger TCP's expression furrows, not saying anything. SEE: ...they're my friend. That lives with me. ????(1): ...they let you both come in together...? ????(1): Or- ????(1): Did you force your way in, or something? SEE: N-no! No, we didn't force anything- You give Minsky a proper look, gesturing for them to back you up. Minsky whistles louder. You let out an exasperated sigh, slumping over a bit. SEE: We have kind of a...magic...agreement. SEE: They come with me everywhere, I think? SEE: So...package deal. ????(1): ... ????(1): ...uh-huh... In no way does it look like it believes you. ????(1): Well... good... luck with that. The big TCP seems to struggle over their words, but they finally speak up. ????(2): How did you get a "friend"? You are fumbling this. Badly. SEE: W-well! It was! Something I learned on the internet! They nod... though, they seem displeased with this answer. Or more accurately, more unsure than before. It doesn't look like these two are all that talkative, but... SEE: So, uh...weird looking puzzle room, huh? SEE: Is...there even a puzzle? ????(1): There's a switch behind your uh... 'friend.' Minsky stops whistling, freezing momentarily. SEE: Oh, uh! You walk back over to Minsky, trying to peer around them. SEE: Minsky, could you move a little? They roll their eyes and move to the side with great difficulty, bumping into you multiple times inadvertently. You examine the wall behind them, choosing not to start shit in front of two new people. Again. There's a small lever, just low enough for you to reach. SEE: So I just...pull this? ????(1): ...is this your first puzzle room...? SEE: N-no! I've done them before! SEE: I just haven't done one like this! You immediately go for the lever, feeling more than a little self conscious now. A long, railed platform appears leading out from your elevator and up a small set of stair-like blocks. You can't see what's at the top from where you are. The glass doors of all three elevators open. The serpentine TCP slides to the back wall immediately, as if it were about to be pulled out. As for the large TCP, the new platform suddenly snaps them to attention. They turn their body to see it better, weight shifting onto their clawed hand and closed fist to stand up, and- --you catch a look at something in their fist. Something small, and it looks like it has- Limbs? A head? For a second... ...before they pull their arm in, holding the object closer to their body, obscuring it from view. When they're upright, they're even taller than you thought, though their wispy body seems to be stretching upwards to get a better look. ????(2): Ohh. I see. ????(2): Could you make that? SEE: ...make what? SEE: Is there something over there? You very hesitantly step out of the elevator, starting to make your way over. Minsky follows you out, hands behind their back. Once you get to the steps and start making your way up, you can see it- a gap between you and another platform, sporting a lever begging for you to pull it. SEE: ...ah. SEE: I...see. It's...bigger than the jump you did in the last chamber, and with that funnel at the bottom... You're not looking forward to this. Minsky is behind you now, one step down from the top, watching expectantly. SEE: ...Minsky, you can float, right? MINSKY: I can do a lot of things, kid. MINSKY: If you pay me. SEE: Are you seriously- MINSKY: Look, that's how this works, bub! MINSKY: Told you that first time we met! MINSKY: You want my help without a payout? MINSKY: Then gimme your best pitch.

"I don't want that Minsky. I don't want to have to argue and barter my way into a friendship, that's not how it works!"
so tell them we're going to try the jump. if we fail we fail. it's not an ultimatum or a threat(even though if we die so do they), but it's more a resolve that if Minsky isn't offering their help in good faith, we're not going to take it, we'll just have to do it like we've done it before.

Alright Minsky, fine. In trials I'll pay you to help. You've mentioned that as something important to you, and I wouldn't want to ask things of you you don't want to do. And I'm probably going to need your help more and more.
But. I have no idea what you can do. You've mentioned you can do anything I like, I just gotta pay you, but that gives me nothing to work with. I'm not sure what things should cost, or what is harder or easier for you to do. I don't want you to raise prices for relatively simple things when my life is in danger because you know I have no other choice. So. I'd like you to show me what you can do, and what your prices are for them. Like...for this chamber and this chamber alone, could you show me one low cost ability, one medium cost ability, and one high cost ability? Just to give me an idea of what we're working with here. And I won't ask for anything free from you again. Make a show of it, if you like. Really sell it to me.
09-12-2022, 08:14 PM
I- look, I don't have anything on me, and you haven't been very specific about what exactly you can do. How about we call this chamber a free trial? Once we're back in our room, I can pick out rewards and I'll have something to pay you with in the future, and by then I'll have a better idea of what you can do and I'll probably trust you a bit more.

SEE: I don’t- Any protests you have fall flat in your head, your patience finally worn thin. SEE: Fine. SEE: I’ll pay you to help me in trials. Minsky's entire face lights up. MINSKY: Now that's what I like to hear! MINSKY: You won't regret it, kid! They hold out an eager hand. MINSKY: Fork it over. You reach up to the top of your head- -popping off a chunk of chocolate. Your health is now FANTASTIC, down from PERFECT. SEE: I can give you this now, and later, I can give you one of my rewards. You don't hand it over immediately, though. Minsky grimaces. MINSKY: Why would I ever want a chunk of your own head? MINSKY: What am I supposed to do with this? SEE: It's healing! And tasty, apparently! SEE: It's a dessert! You catch the snake craning its neck to listen as you talk. Minsky places the chocolate chunk haphazardly back on top of your head. MINSKY: No thanks, kid! MINSKY: What do I look like, a cannibal? MINSKY: I'll take that reward, though. MINSKY: And no weaseling out when we finish up here; a deal's a deal! MINSKY: You wouldn't try that with me, right? What's...a cannibal? SEE: I'm not gonna back out! SEE: But I want you to show me what you can do, and I don't want any tricks. SEE: No...raising prices just because I'm in trouble. SEE: I want this to be fair. MINSKY: But for now, I can help you outta this jam, no problem. Without warning, Minsky lifts you up with minimal effort. SEE: H-HEY The chocolate chunk falls off your head. Minsky snags it before it hits the ground, handing it to you. MINSKY: If that thing's valuable, then careful not to lose it! Your proxy floats across to the platform with the switch on it and drops you down. MINSKY: See? MINSKY: Am I reliable, or what? SEE: ....I GUESS that helps. You sigh, trying to relax after the stress of being picked up by someone...a lot less courteous than the last couple of people who did just that. SEE: Thank you, Minsky. MINSKY: Hey, don't mention it, champ. They lean against the railing. You set the piece of chocolate down next to you, moving to pull that lever. The lever clicks into the opposite position. A chime sounds, little green lights popping up on all three elevators. You call out to the other trialgoers, pointing at the elevator lights. SEE: I think that's letting us go forward! ????(1): The '2' button is lit up in my elevator now, but it's red. The other TCP looks over at her buttons. ????(2): Mine's red as well. ????(1): You should go check yours; see if it's any different. SEE: Okay! You pick up the chocolate, turning yourself around- ...the gap's still there. You slowly look up at Minsky. MINSKY: Need somethin', sport? Their glee is palpable. SEE: You, uh, haha... SEE: Said you'd help me out of this...jam, right? MINSKY: And I did! MINSKY: Gotcha across the gap! MINSKY: Need my help a second time? MINSKY: Well, of course I'd be more than happy to extend my services again! MINSKY: For the low, low cost of another reward. You are going to- No. You don't even care anymore. SEE: ...fine, another one. SEE: This is what I was talking about with keeping things fair, though. You raise your arms for Minsky to pick you up. MINSKY: Fan-TAST-ic! MINSKY: I knew you'd make the right choice! MINSKY: Let's- ????(1): Actually- The serpentine TCP raises its voice. ????(1): Uh. ????(1): ...I can help you out. ????(1): That chocolate heals people if they eat it, right? SEE: ...yeah, why? You lower your arms. ????(1): I can help you out instead, if you'll give me that piece. MINSKY: HEY-! The large TCP also raises its voice, as if to imitate the serpentine one. ????(2): What happens if you fall, anyway? ????(2): I can see the bottom of the pit from here! It speaks nonchalantly, confidently. ????(1): I can help. Promise. ????(1): ...And if that's actually healing, I uh... ????(1): I could kinda use it- MINSKY: No, no, No- MINSKY: Kid, you don't even know these clowns! MINSKY: I'm the one who's here with You! MINSKY: Hey- They snap their fingers in front of your face to get your attention, then crouch down to be eye-level with you. MINSKY: Who's got your back, huh? MINSKY: That's right! Yours truly!

Minsky should know by now we make our own decisions.
"...I'd be glad to trade you the chunk for some help across. What are your names, by the way?"
Here's the thing, Minsky.
Right now my options are having you help me at the cost of a second reward, or having- what's your name? Having them help me at the cost of this chunk that I already ripped out of my head and can't stick back on. You also just told me you didn't want said chunk, and I don't know when or if I'm going to see [serpentiny friend] again considering how these trials are- so this is my one shot at spending it. I can give you a reward at any time since we're literally bonded. So the obvious choice is having [snek] help, since they're cheaper and not as readily available as you are. Buuuut, if you're genuinely concerned about my safety, and not just in it for the money, we could include carrying me back over as part of the first deal. Whaddaya say? [[obviously once we know the name of the first TCP we can swap out the stuff in brackets for their actual name]]

Minsky you don't get to say shit. If you want me to accept the whole paying for things thing, then I'd be a fool to not take a better deal when it comes up.
I want to be your friend, I want to meet you half way. But you're making that very hard. relationships are built on trust and honesty, and you've broken my trust and tried to manipulate me. Think about that and we'll have a long talk once we get back to the room. |
