You... Shouldn't have been able to read any of that, if this were a dream. One of the most common indicators for whether you're dreaming or not is that text always changes the second time you look at it, and you definitely had to back up and reread things.
This is a lot to take in, so maybe just take it slow for now and see what's on TV. If socialization is akin to eating for you, you should be fine for an hour or two before you get "hungry". And besides, you're in a hospital anyway, so if anything happens, there's staff ready to help you.
As for using your hands, maybe thinking less would help? Turning the pages of the pamphlet seemed easier when you were distracted by the contents.
