things i am experiencing


bejeweled deluxe- lucy got us a steam deck as a present to help us decompress from discord/social media stress and distance ourselves from our computer, and boy, has it been good. spent the first few weeks playing primarily bejeweled though. truly a good use of the power involved here. that said, it's kind of the perfect platform for it. i really recommend if you have a deck, you try this out. it's kind of a perfectly simple old game, i grew up with it and i'm really happy to see it still slaps. also, one of the best OSTs ever. i should really pick up 2.

siralim ultimate- the first actual In Depth game ive started using the deck for, that i am now utterly fucking obsessed with. jesus christ. this game is like, built for how i like to play games and learn mechanics. i will likely do a proper rundown of what i like about it when i'm less tired and busy. it does have, admittedly, SOME REALLY FUCKING BAD RACIST DESIGNS IN IT, which is the only major issue i have with it- and it is major. otherwise id be recommending this 100% freely.

pluribus- watched the first ep of pluribis last night. us and como are huuuuuuuuge vince gilligan fans and jesus christ this one is something special. i will have to parse thoughts after ep 2 but if you can handle post-pandemic horror in all of its terror i cannot recommend it enough. just prepare to be reallyy really REALLY anxious.

to be hero x- i think this is the first time i've seen chinese animation on a more major scale- and damn, i would really like to see more. it's very fucking cool seeing more countries place their cards down in the animation industry and this one is REALLY, REALLY COOL. im gonna have to break this one better later.

second life- i do the second life as usual

hollow knight- technically i'm watching como play this one, but that's the main way i experience games. i cannot fucking believe it took us this long to get to this. this would have been completely formative me if i hopped on this at release. it's everything i want in this kind of weird cartoon horror setup. really cool! cant wait for silksong to break como's soul.

Grease tries to set up the "They both changed for each other" in a "Gift of Magi" style ending but as soon as John Travolta's character sees the girl in leather he's like nah fuck that and tosses his good boy letterman into the manure paved football field.

i have also described grease as "one of the most nothingburger movies i've ever seen" up until the ending that cemented it as maybe one of the most vile movies to ever show a teenage girl

I think I watched grease when I was a baby and all I remember is the very VERY bad sexism song. Idk why that movie is considered culturally relevant it sucks.

watched all 12 episodes of madoka magica last night with partner and friend so we can watch rebellion (first time for friend, god knows how many times for me) and i still love the art direction so much. have had actual insp and energy to draw again even if just sloppy doodles so fucking around and thinking about witch forms is pretty fun

yeah no i am extremely fucking hype for new tomodachi. it is making me really REALLY want to figure out a new setup for our Switch 2 now that we've shuffled around apartments over here, and get our miitopia save off of Como's switch. i need. mii time. now

i havent seen madoka in a million years myself but the witch stuff is the main thing that stuck with us. really beautiful style elements

Given my only knowledge of Grease comes from high school posters I feel like it's mainly relevant to musical communities in the US as one that adapted into a popular film. Though the wikipedia articles on the writer of it aren't very kind to his other works.

The witch forms in Madoka are definitely something I want to see in action, outside of the mixed media theme they also serve to break out of the very regimented character features magical girl shows seem to have now.


Over the past fortnight I have been watching Armor Hunter Mellowlink and playing the Quake Brutalism Jam 3. 

It's interesting seeing the art evolution in Mellowlink from VOTOMS, noticeably this is getting into the same era of design as Sailor Moon, and the larger emphasis on animating people over the mecha. Gives it this distinctive feeling of games that use similar assets and engines to do different things.
I wish it did more with the themes it decides to work with in the latter half though, it's a lot more of a meathead battler anime than VOTOMs and that's something given the lead for that was practically non-verbal.

As for the QBJ3? It's honestly been a little bit of a slog, but I'm not hugely into the way Boomer Shooters emphasize their brand of combat. Most of my favourites in the Jam were much slower paced and worked with the lower power weapons provided, and I recommend also setting the pistol (weapon2/shotgun) to right-click to make it more convenient.
I definitely like the bounce shotgun in it as it has a lot of features that help with sloppy aim like rectangular spread and the ability to use walls to ensure all it's pellets hit from beyond effective range, definitely the pinnacle of videogame shotguns.

We've been playing Miitopia, making original characters and maaaybe I do a silly fantasyslop ocverse for it? That sounds fun. I remember being really into the old game to the point where I made an AU about it but none of my friends at the time cared about it... but now I have Erin and we do everything together! Helps keep motivation up!

Regarding Madoka, I really need to show Erin the rest of that series I just haven't done it yet sigh. I'm so excited for the new movie, I'm glad to see Mami again, she was always my fave.

us and como are planning on making really stupid tomodachi morbit miis when that comes around and i am sure we will post about it. i am sure of it. sometimes it just helps to have other folks involved.
