good afternoon everyone. i am very very sick. but the animals must go on and now i have an excuse to do it while swaddled up in bed.

i have not gotten around to a proper petz check in since my last post, so you'll get what you get. thankfully, that's quite a lot.

THE VPET NEWS REPORT

well, i woke up with food poisoning from hell, so Confetti and Poppyseed are on pause for a bit seeing as they've been the most immediately demanding. seeing as i'm taking the day (and possibly tomorrow) to be mainly sick in bed, i feel like it'll be a good catchup weekend anyway. 

poppyseed is struggling a bit because she's a fat fuck now and bandai loves to  be normal about weight in these games, so while i think she's awesome, the game requires me to go throw her at training minigame until she slims down. confetti on the other hand is just getting a bit neglected because while i love the m!x, i haven't really sat down and immersed myself in its functions and internalized it as a sort of "play environment" the same way i have the tamagotchi connections. same for poppy, probably. 

however, poppyseed DID digivolve, and i'm quite pleased to say that she's a belial vamdemon, which i was like, wow, thatll be cool to have if i can! and then i looked at the digivolution requirements for her next stage option and went Okay you're probably just staying as that lmfao. absolutely brutal shit.

....okay poppy. she always felt very nice and gentle to me, so i'm not sure what the lore is here. i think she may still be nice and gentle, really...but i'll mull it over. holy fucking shit the sodom and gomorrah cannons though lmfao


as mentioned in the first post, the vpet plushes we will be making will NOT BE EXACT. AT ALL. especially not in terms of colors chosen and final result. consider this color blocking for the final. the digimon plushes are very much going to be long term projects that only get started officially once the digimon itself passes on- which should ideally give me a big ol chunk of time to take care of poppy and prolong the impending addition of her plush to the queue. i think this is a decent enough simplification, at least. 

confetti's plush is actually almost done, and i'll likely go wrap it up after i finish this post. they're made with socks from king clod, actually, and while the shaping came out pretty jank on the plush (i'm out of practice with non-fuzzy socks...) and they look more like some sort of weird mametchi mimic, i LOVE how the color usage turned out, and i can't thank kc enough for the sock care package. jank is beautiful in my book. 

modem and wire evolved into their final states, and will be having their plushes started tomorrow as soon as i can pick from some amazing bulk sock shipments ace is sending out- the more variety the better, esp for COMO'S FIRST TAMAGOTCHI PLUSH!!! WOW

modem turned into a pyonkotchi, which had me audibly yelling and cheering and babbling because oh my god it's a cat tamagotchi and there really are not as many of those in the eras i've played as you'd think. i've wanted one of these FOREVER and finally have one. modem, my shitty punk transmasc pyonkotchi, i hope you terrorize the world. 


also being an osutchi/mesutchi originated character, pyonkotchi's whole Schtick focuses around relationships- something to consider for lore, at the very least for how pyonkos are received in the worldbuild, perhaps...

wire turned into a kuchipatchi. seeing como react irl to his first raised tamagotchi and it being the fat little funny duck was a moment im saving in my brain forever. he was so so so happy. i'm really glad we're doing this together. couldn't pick a better first one for him, frankly. 

abyss is still the same as yesterday. sorry that i have nothing to report on the literal focus of the log. everyone else is too busy being interesting.

NEOPETS TIME



for the majority of this creaturefest we'll be doing our dailies and see what makes sense from there lore-wise. we're playing toys.

here were yesterday's tasks. easy enough. we'll give at minimum one to each of our guys, but we actually are able to knock out the first one in one go-



with the power of BEAW. 


tidepool is now a professional instacart shopper. i dont think he's thrilled about this. but maybe he likes touys. 



meanwhile, spot tried ice cream machine. i need to impress that this is neopets' attempt at a bullet hell. at the very least, it being a big fat seal probably helped with the cold barrage of ice cream scoops. 








felicity's having a much nicer day. she got to learn about sandstone carving congrats girl your personality is now going to be rocks.



meanwhile, chu gets toothbrushed all over their body. i genuinely dont know how you groom a manta ray. 




i also realized that tidepool doesnt have a proper petpet situation so i slapped a lurman into his hands and we'll see how the lab ray goes. 



it ended up being a whole lot of nothing though, so i got him a consolation prize.

OPTIONAL CHALLENGE PROGRESS


WOBBLEDOGS 

in my wobbledogs challenge attempt, i'm going to be trying to reinvent fish. yes, you heard me. my goal is to somehow recreate the concept of a fish in wobbledogs. at first i figured, well i could go for what como calls "fish colors", but the true point of my challenge emerged quickly- i needed to make some flat fucks. this went a lot faster than i remember, but i've never really sat down and sunk my teeth fully into this game- it's one i respect a lot, but isn't my usual for what i like in a sort of Ol' Reliable pet game situation. but, behold, the dogs we have in the little genetic tide pool:



i'm not bothering to give them real names yet until we get ones that are truly, TRULY qualifiable as fish. we'll get there when we get there. we're already getting somewhere though! i'm also considering the whole...legs situation. i've never raised fully legless dogs and i'm unsure about my ability to keep them from losing their shit with stress, so i think eventual goal is legs but Really Really Short Ones. tails, we'll see. i'm out of the loop on the wide range of genes you can currently get in this game and i kind of want to find out what's around organically.

we also don't have any furniture qualifying as aquarium decor yet and i have no idea when i'm gonna get that shit so i'm not bothering to show the enclosure yet. this will not be a daily updated endeavor, nor will the spore playthrough, which...


SPORE

hello welcome to my mini forum LP of a game i havent played in years that occupied a non-insignificant part of my brain space growing up. i am going to suck real bad at this but i'm here to reengage with my ~whimsy~ or whatever and see how it goes. 


i want to continue to stay on theme, and while spore does not allow for true aquatic gameplay, we're gonna make a fucked up sea creature anyway that has come to land and is a person now. eventually. i have no real end goal in mind short of i would like to capture the vibes of the only animal i have a genuine bonafide phobia of:

the lion's mane jellyfish. 



i had to deal with these bitches CONSTANTLY growing up and ultimately, theyre just an animal and minding their own business. i respect them. theyre cool and just vibing and doing their jellyfish thing. but god help me i do NOT want to be near them. if there's a layer of glass between us, we're good to go, but i cannot deal with them in the same water space with me. i am on the fucking beach forever if i even see a little one.  

but, id like to make something based on them in part bc of that reason. i think it'd be fun to invoke that! theyre also just, utterly gorgeous animals and i find them so beautiful along with how scary they are to me specifically. win-win.



enter our first iteration, stingly. i will be completely honest with you i forgot how the fucking creature editor controls work and forgot i could make it a fat fuck. sorry. fairly standard spore cell, but i scrunched the eyes together bc i thought itd be cute.



second and third iterations of stingly were where i got experimental. obviously it needs to have a lot of flagella, but i wanted the electric shock weapon too. gyiyg actually mentioned how many kids must have thought jellyfish shock people from spongebob while i was in the process of considering it, so that kind of sealed it. i will  not say that stingly is good at surviving, but i am quite pleased with my fucked up attempt at hyper-offense in terms of "i will bite you and shock the shit out of you and ideally go real fast but i didnt bother grinding for DNA points to actually pull that off"



despite it all though, stingly survived. thank god. here's the chart, i basically just went for HUNT KILL HUNT KILL that really was a lot more just. shoveling meat floating around into my mouth. is that not the jellyfish way. 



i leave the spore run off on our first iteration in creature stage: stingler. i will have a real fucking name for these things by the end of it. we need to go for round. we need to have a lot of tentacles. tiny eyes, potentially a lot of them would be nice. going for that lion's mane jellyfish look. no visible mouth. no idea what to do with legs yet. in hindsight i should have made them skinnier and placed different, but that's for next time.
