[SPECIES DEVELOPMENT] SPINNERETS
#1
SPINNERETS

[CW: very simple/brief mentions of reproduction (literally just a mention cmon now it's a SFW thread)]

ORIGIN

  • Originated in ????
  • Created by Loom in [year]
  • First morph: Weavers
  • ????

CULTURE

  • Moderate population across the entire Modician region, most populous in Spindle.
  • Group families of a collection of different parents and children, usually a group of at least four parents who contribute in some way to the family structure.
  • Strongly Affiliated with Loom.
  • Spinnerets in Spindle are the primary worshippers of Loom, outside of the zone their worship is more distributed.
  • High numbers of Loom worshippers
  • Moderate numbers of Magnus worshippers
  • Moderate-low numbers of Saw worshippers
  • Physical disability usually comes in the form of blight and or infections, as other injuries are easy to repair
  • Spinnerets buy hydrophobic spray coatings so they don't get soggy
  • Sleep in large hammocks, either placed outside between two tall structures, or in homes, across two high points.
  • Highly value clothing and textiles
  • Tall, homes that are narrower but longer, usually with open spaces near the top for the hammock-beds
  • While injuries are comparatively easy to cause, as they are no more durable than a tough fabric, they prove a very difficult enemy to take down, due to their unique biology meaning injuries are nowhere near debilitating or threatening for them.
  • Puppetry is a very common form of entertainment, of all sorts. Boxing and MMA are also very popular sports among Spinnerets
  • Have a unique form of dry cleaning as they really don't like getting wet.

APPEARANCE

  • Made of various different types of textiles, fabric skins
  • Different common textile prints, dotted, stripped, checkered, plain, etc.
  • Soft noises and rounding of syllables is common for how they talk.
  • All have eight arms, all have button eyes, and are made of various types of fabric.
  • Four sets of arms, starting from where arms 'normally' are, along their shoulder blades, ending in single points.
  • Any hair/fur is short and based on the type of fabric they're made of.
  • Plantigrade feet that are rounded and flat, with a tougher surface of tighter-woven fabric to walk on
  • Grow from 1-3' to 7-'10' from childhood to adulthood.
  • ????

BIOLOGY

  • Spinnerets have nerves, skeletons, and musculature, though all of it is made from differently woven types of fabric. Imbued with life.
  • Their teeth are more suited to biting / using in the process of weaving fabrics, as they do not eat and metabolize in the same way as other species.
  • Their diet primarily consists of synthesizing different fibers into nutrients to sustain their bodies, thusly their diets are mostly grain and plant based for Naturals, and plastic based for Syntehtics. They do not eat meats or otherwise as their forms of tasting wouldn't be compatible with that form of food.
  • They make heavy use of gesturing and physicality in talking, Spinnerets culture integrates a basic form of gesture into language as tone modifiers and other such linguistic tools
  • Small holes on the sides of their heads
  • Spinnerets have button eyes sewn onto their faces.
  • Lifespan of 60 to 80 years, Maturity at 20.
  • ????

LIFE CYCLE/FAMILY STRUCTURE

  • Spinnerets reproduce by weaving a new spinneret into existence. Each parent contributes some of their own internal life imbued threads and weaves a core organ, from which the child grows around overtime. Parents weave cocoons while their children are growing.
  • Offspring mature in cocoons outside parents, and grow over five or so months, in numbers of one to five at a time.
  • Kids are normally pretty quiet, creative urges are common among most.
  • Families consist of a group of parents (in any combination of relationships) of four to eight people, and then children created by various pairings of parents.
  • Family sizes range in size from ten to thirty people.  (parents + kids)
  • Relationship structure is highly variant, and mostly person to person.
  • Children are encouraged to leave their family-pod once they are old enough to take care of themselves and meet people from other family-pods.
  • ????

GENETICS

  • Morphs are based on different types of fabrics, can be simply split into Synthetic and Natural fabrics, but can be further split beyond that.
  • Mixed morphs are very common, Synth-Nat morphs are their own class entirely of Hybrid morphs, but other pairings can wind up having such strong variation that mixed morphs are very common.
  • The first morphs were the Weavers, a very rare form of Spinerette made directly from Loom's fabric, they have the ability to give life to fabric, like loom does, but to a greatly limited extent.
  • Hybrids, while rare, typically inherit more internal biology than external biology, and often retain organs that are only relevant to Spinerettes, but pose no issues to other species, some are still able to produce fabric, for instance.
  • Based on different types of spiders, anthropomorphized.
  • Common mutations usually effect fabric production, and eyesight.

MORPHS

Weavers
"???”
????
  • First Spinerette that were created by Loom
  • Larger than other Spinerettes, 10-15'
  • Affiliated with fine, smooth fabrics, and greatly associated w/ Loom and devotion to it.
  • Minor ability to control fabric.
  • Minor ability to imbue life into fabric.
  • Greatly expected in Spinerette society.
Synthetics
"????"
?????
  • Created by Loom and populated by Weavers
  • Affiliated with Synthetic fabrics, sub-morphs for various different synthetic fabrics.
  • Typically live in higher elevation regions, due to their higher levels of internal warmth.
  • Naturally more water repellant than Naturals.
  • Eat plastic.
Naturals
"????"
??????
  • Created by Loom and populated by Weavers
  • Affiliated with Natural fabrics, sub-morphs for various different synthetic fabrics.
  • Typically live in forests and less densely populated areas
  • Typically slightly more durable than Synthetics
  • Eat plant.

RULES

This is a species development thread! Here you can have discussion on the species presented, and offer suggestions/ideas for developing them- thus directly contributing to the species! Anything is fair game so long as it follows the restrictions (if any are listed). This main post will be updated as we go, allowing for people to always have an up to date resource on the species.

Restrictions/No-go's
  • Keep it SFW!!!!
