Folks, it's dire.

So! To get back the social element that draws me to TTRPGs, but keep the ease solo games have of only having one player (me) to keep track of, I figured I'd start a bookclub of sorts!

Here's how this will work:

This thread is for discussion and playthroughs of the game for each month, be they full written stories, cliffnotes, drawings of your character, or even just your opinion of the game!
Not everyone likes playing games and/or journaling, but still enjoy reading rulebooks! Don't feel the need to play to be able to discuss. Just reading is fine!
Please use the forum's spoiler option for anything you think might alter other's experience/big twists (if applicable)
At the end of each month we'll hold a poll of what solo game to play for the next month - populated with suggestions from the thread, or, if lacking, unplayed games from my library.
This thread is, as stated, for solo games, but some of the games listed can also be played as duet games. If you wish, you can play some of the listed games as such, but please don't suggest games that can only be played with 1 or 2 other people.

For the first month of this bookclub, we will be discussing/playing Descent in SILVER and GLASS, a choose your own adventure style game using tarot cards. Journaling is not required for this game, so I thought it an appropriately spooky entry-level game to start off this book-club with. I still will be journaling, mind you, but it can be played entirely without!

but! one thing we absolutely have gotten back into is tamagotchis- particularly fond of the Tamagotchi Paradise at the moment. nearly 3 months ago, hazard got an orange tropics device to go along with our already-owned purple sky- which, i'll take a detour for a moment to explain.

the Tamagotchi Paradise is a tamagotchi model that focuses on giving the player a planet to take care of, with raising tamagotchis being framed more as caring for lab subjects/creatures of study versus the "guy you raise in a house and put clothes on and it's basically a little sanrio mascot guy" style of the past...decade+. the designs are also weird little alien guys again, albeit based on real world creatures. (...for now. tamagotchi lab has some interesting things ahead...) there's some wild pulls in there- the tropics device has a peacock spider, for god's sake. it's awesome- and it even has a spinny dial!

you raise your little thangs in a biome of your choosing, with each device belonging to a trio of biomes- sky is in the sky/land/sea trio, and tropics is in the tropics/glacier/forest trio. your device determines what biome you start in, so ours started in sky and tropics, etc. once you unlock each biome in the trio on each device, you can swap between them freely, no additional purchases needed.

....unless you want the secret characters but this is fucking bandai i don't know what you expected if not for an attempt at a cash grab of some sort.

the creature your tamagotchi evolves into is not only based on care conditions such as how happy and healthy you keep it, but what you feed it, the biome you raise it, etc...with subsequent generations of tamagotchi (you can breed them!) taking on colors and facial features of their parents. here's a fun site if you want to try out previewing how varied the characters can get!

all in all, it's kind of the perfect device for us. we've grown a bit tired of the overly-detailed modern designs up until this point, and this suits us much better. while we didn't initially click with running the sky in april 2026 (depression episodes will do this), hazard picking it back up along with the tropics was exactly what we needed to lock in. the initial plan was to get back to our attempt to make sock plushes for tamas we raise, and that different system members can cycle through the generations to have their own little characters they can use for worldbuilding, IRL toys, second life, etc.

this was, until, hazard got Very Attached to the following tamagotchis: Meeba and Lagoon.

meeba is a sharktchi raised on our sky device (sea biome) and lagoon is a yashikitchi raised on our tropics device (tropics biome). the two of them quickly established themselves to be fast friends while growing up...and fast lovers as adults. hazard realized that there was no way in hell to keep them from trying to do the weird tamagotchi kissing mating ritual after their very first interaction as adults gave him the prompt to breed them. they were simply too powerful. they were too gay. breeding them would give the next system member to come around

eventually belu fronted.
hazard did not want to give up the ladies.

it was decided that these two were so special to him, and SO gay, that they should be given a wedding- and not just a digital one, but in person as well. inspired by the diary entries of many old netizens before us, we have always wanted to return to the time-honored traditions of holding little parties and gatherings for our toy collections...documenting them online, as well.

this became a problem when, again- hazard did not want to give up the ladies.
well, the wedding needed their plushes done. and then the plushes need dresses. and now the tamagotchis need 3D models. and i don't know we need to figure out a guest list and it's just you know, a whole big thing, it's a whole thing-

these two fuckers stayed with us for 80 goddamn days.

that's not to say that we didn't all love meeba and lagoon- of course we did. they became a pretty stable fixture in our life, and experienced a lot of things while here.

a small list:

- the Lord of the Rings orchestra as a birthday trip with our roommate. you'd be shocked at how absolutely dogshit the Peacock Theater seats are. technically, only meeba attended, because lagoon got left at home and somehow survived. i suspect this is the reason for her revenge later, however.

- countless movies on account of us forming a Movie Watchers Council with our IRL friends, including but not limited to: Coyote vs Acme, Supergirl (don't do this), Forgotten Island, Avengers Endgame Encore (also don't do this, disney is, expectedly, lying bastards), Toy Story 5, The Odyssey, Spider-Man: Brand New Day. countless movies on the TV, as well.

- we also watched Who Framed Roger Rabbit? with friends, to great success. lots of time spent with our amazing friends these past 80 days in general- we have more support in our life than ever before. thank you!

- started Space Case, which has been a life changing experience that broke us out of 2+ years of spinning our wheels on solo writing and making us love it again. this has been a genuinely transformative project for us and i'm glad lagoon and meeba were here to see it happen.

- two visits from for varying reasons and featuring many adventures. i do not think i can fully recount all of the shit we get up to but it was wonderful even if/when amidst the horrors.

- a shitload of medical appointments and procedures in an attempt to diagnose a variety of problems that to the day of writing this, are still a mystery. they were incredible support during these trying times.

- starting Cogmind, which is a very cool game that got us into that we will definitely be doing more of. we also made a lot of Mewgenics OC flowcharts.

- fully going through The Ghost In The Shell (our first experience with it!) and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-man, as well as watching a whole bunch of Young Ladies Don't Play Fighting Games, Lanterns, and fuck i am definitely missing a lot of shows. we're also getting to watch Dungeon Meshi! we did a lot of watching!

- reading the following manga: a proper finish of Ushimitsu Gao, a partial read of Bio-Meat, making scream by continuing to forget to read Radiant, and mulling over our like fourth reread of Fool Night because the anime is coming out and Oh my god it's happening.

- watching como finish Final Fantasy VII: Remake, which was a hell of a ride we have a lot of thoughts on. he also got really into Deadlock in the past few days so i'm counting that.
we also subjected to mass effect and kingdom hearts, which is a joy unto itself.

- many trips to various toy stores and events. it is fucking SHOCKING how many retailers sell tamagotchi merchandise outright these days, and a lot of the import gachapon in our area have tama goodies i never would have expected to see in my life. tamagotchi is back, baby... and it helps that we live in southern california where import stores are literally fucking everywhere.

- attending my first ever build a bear experience. that's right. it's nuzzle's turn. it's MY turn. i'm the protagonist.

- started physical therapy again, to huge results. we can actually walk again to a significant degree, though our spine and leg protest a lot some days. we're still limited in how much uptime we can get, but we're able to at the very least scamper around the house to make sure our tamagotchis don't eat shit when we inevitably leave them in another room.

- helped como through some pretty life-changing medical experiences, coming out of them victorious and with hopes for a better life for both of us. we love him so much, and i like to think that meeba and lagoon did too, just by being by our side and to that end, his.

- a scary power outage that technically they were asleep for, but they were a welcome presence all the same.

- many, MANY horrible politics events and financial struggles. 2026 has been a very hard year in this department for us and como, even living in a blue state. it was nice to have them as something to ground us.

- five million insomnia episodes- we never woke them up or really bothered to play minigames (we were really bad at doing those, frankly...) but knowing they were there helped.

- falling back in love with second life after a period of anxiety and being stuck spinning our wheels for a few months- their 3D models helped a lot! we also have regular meetups with folks in the homebrew deviants matrix space, which i swear to god we WILL advertise.

- stayed by our side while we figured out a lot of system shit. thank you meeba and lagoon for that, big time.

- getting our first tamagotchi covers and charms- this felt super cool and important, seeing as while we've always been tamagotchi superfans, we had never actually invested in gear and customization for them. we also ended up buying a dedicated shoulder pouch to carry them on the go, because rifling through our whale duffle bag (love you wadsworth) got to be more cumbersome than was ideal for little virtual guys that need attendance. they also have a dedicated basket nest on our desk. we're all in.

there is so much more that happened. 80 days is so long, and went by so fast. it's no wonder that haz didn't want to let these two go, not after they had spent so much time here. however, they did have plushes- and could thus live with us here on Earth forever, able to frolic gayly for all of time. there was just a little problem.

as lagoon and meeba got older, they got needy.

by the time we married them yesterday and started a new generation, lagoon had gotten to the point of being prone to death if we left her alone for 3 hours (i blame that LOTR concert...), and we had to save her from the grim gotchi FOUR TIMES. that's too many near death experiences. oh my god. we were genuinely starting to get on edge every time we left her in another room. meeba's batteries died a few weeks before the wedding and lagoon had become so desperate for food at a rapid pace that we had to go dude i'm not fucking dealing with two of them rn and left her in stasis until it was time to exchange vows. holy fucking shit this got hard.

from what i understand, tamas can last infinitely on the paradise and also live a lot Easier if you consistently care for them. unfortunately, we have a full time job of making weird shit for the internet, sewing, and being overall disabled, so we miss beeps a lot more than we used to back in the day. you'd think that a guy who spends most of his time sitting in a recliner with a lap desk and going to medical appointments would be better at this, but sadly, no. we are not a hardcore tamagotchi gamer and 10 year old mortis would be so fucking disappointed.

it was decided a few days prior that hazard's agonies would have to be set aside. he would be able to send off his lovely ladies outside of their devices and welcome them to Earth, but he was going to do this and do it now. we could NOT keep caring for them, especially not lagoon, whose hunger was insatiable. on top of that, is currently here and had organized a whole shipping situation regarding some lovely Little Gumdrop Guys (thank you pichi!) to arrive to our place, go back with knux, and have him ship them off to their new home across the ocean. in the process, we would welcome a gumdrop guy of our own...and of course, what better time for the wedding would be when we have additional guests?

THE WEDDING ITSELF.

we haven't done something like this in over a decade. i'll admit, it was in fact a little nervewracking at first- but with knux on camera duty, it became a lot of fun and a great photography event. we'll remember it fondly!

The Guests:

the brides of honor, a well as hazard's as of yet unnamed shark plush! who looks very doofy from the front! of course hazard's handmade shark would be there, here to support these two as they fully embrace their new Earth life. lagoon and meebas' plushes both came out super jank in a cute way, and are the perfect size to carry around on adventures and cuddle in a big pile. they also can't stand up on their own so the shark was a big help. also, only meeba got a dress because of fronting indecision. we blame hazard.

the Gumdrop Guy patrol! the first, third, and fifth are ours- with the gray cat and pink + yellow tiger being pichi's new friends. lion and kitty on the ends are gifts from from a while back- good god, we're surrounded by friends. and more will come later...

these guys can hold hands with their little magnets! they can also hold props made for them as well, which...leads to shenanigans, trust me. that afterparty got wild. as far as i know, none of these little thangs have names yet, but they're certainly happy to be here and party all the same.

thank you pichi and ace! we're so fortunate to have these little guys, and having them have a little meetup before pichi's go overseas is honestly a really poignant and magical experience.

from my bunch- my aforementioned build a bear toucan, Guava- he's so flattering from the front, isn't he? along with como's favorite plush in the whole world, Grumbles. we made grumbles for his birthday in 2025! also pictured are some unnamed friends from -clod - she sent us some old childhood plushes to take care of and welcome into our home. seriously, this was a hell of a shindig. i've claimed these two for myself, so hopefully names will come to me soon enough! these were technically taken after the wedding, so these two are a little late. whoops. showed up for drinks and nothing else.

lagoon seems to be suffering from hunger pangs on the side. this is what i'm talking about.

and then, of course, our tamagotchis that have already come over to join us here on earth! bottom row, left to right: belle, modem, wire, wendy, confetti. yama also overlooks from the build a bear chapel, which is highly inappropriate. shame on you, old man.

we want to welcome more and more tamas into our home...making as many plushes as we do really is a spiritual experience of sorts, bringing our digital friends and characters into the physical world to become a part of our family.

....there are also a lot of them so if anyone has storage solutions, please tell me. lol.

knux's mini sock plushes from a past Knuxmas also attended as well as his new rahkshi picked up on this one and a sock radillo we made him back in 2024, but appear to have escaped a group photo. they did attend and are in the overall picture though!

and finally- the wedding ceremony. look at all these attendees! quite a shindig, especially since lagoon and meeba technically only met a couple of these guys directly. still, the rest of the tamagotchi bunch showing up to welcome new members of our strange little group feels apt, and everyone is welcome at their party.

we also used the build a bear cub condo from my jumping spider (thank you to one of our IRLs for getting that, holy fuck that's a story for another day) as a makeshift chapel because we thought it'd be funny as fuck. it was.

1996 bean pet mametchi gets to be the overseer, not unlike jesus looking down on- i actually don't know a good analogy here. i come from the sect of christianity known as "my mom was on some religious delusion shit and i never went to church" so i'm a bit out of the loop here. lagoon and meeba's devices get to be in their nest so they can sit upright, and we brought in a beanie baby guy from the same show knux got his rahkshi at to read the vows or whatever. i have only ever been to one wedding.

pichi requested that one of his guys be the flower bearer- the flower gumdrop, i suppose? considering the batch came with a bouquet in its accessory bundle. here's a closeup!

vows were exchanged, of some kind. what kind of vows do tamagotchis share? in the connection era that we're most familiar with, them getting married involves kissing, doing a little dance, fireworks popping up, and suddenly an egg appear. this is pretty similar to the paradise, so i think they just kiss and fuck after or something. we did get pictures of the actual process of them connecting one last time, but that'll likely be for a subsequent post because it's a lot of pictures. very cute though!

and now they've crossed over into Earth for real, sealed with a kiss. now they can get up to shenanigans in our apartment! i fear for the state of our snacks, if lagoon's snack cravings are anything to worry about. why did the palm tree have to turn out like this and not the shark?

it was a lovely ceremony, but of course, that couldn't be the end of it...

Your horn came out... Wrong. You can't predict big natural disasters like your mom. Instead, you predict personal disasters. But it's fuzzy. There's no details, just a vague sense of intensity, and a rough timeline. If it wasn't for the fact that your sense can cover half the mountain at any given time it'd be useless. As it stands though:

Half the Pokémon don't believe your Doom Sense, what you've come to name your bastardized power, actually works. There are enough Pokémon who've had close calls after your predictions that its not everyone, but even then... Comparisons to your mom are ever-present and unflattering.

SEVIPER: At least she actually saves Pokémon.
SEVIPER: That landslide last spring, the Wildfire a few months ago?
SEVIPER: It warned us well in Advance, told us what was going to happen, and lead us through it with no loss of life.

You saunter away from the Seviper's den in the roots of a juniper bush and make your way back home. Unfortunately, you do care. You care every time someone gets hurt because you couldn't stop it. You care every time you wake up in a cold sweat because you feel a new ping from your Doom Sense.

Your mother stops patching your grass bedding to come over and give you a hug. Which is a rather awkward human-ism she picked up from her time as a human's companion. Then she grooms a bit of fluff out of your eyes, using a single claw to comb it back into your head fur once she licked it wet.

ABSOL: Mooooom, I'm not a kid anymore, I can groom myself.
MOTHER ABSOL: sorry sweetie
MOTHER ABSOL: I just see some fur out of place and I move without thinking.
ABSOL: where's Dad?
MOTHER ABSOL: out foraging
MOTHER ABSOL: -or playing with those human cards with its buddies.
MOTHER ABSOL: Either way it will be home with dinner, or so help me Xerneas...

You roll your eyes. Domestic bliss, or something. It was life, anyway.

MOTHER ABSOL: oh how did it go with your newest prediction?
ABSOL: I don't want to talk about it.

That said Who is your dad? Pure Absol pairings are rare, as your kind tend to spread out and have their own territories to watch over. It's whatever. Cool that you got to learn a move from it though.

Half the Pokémon don't believe your Doom Sense, what you've come to name your bastardized power, actually works. There are enough Pokémon who've had close calls after your predictions that its not everyone, but even then... Comparisons to your mom are ever-present and unflattering.

SEVIPER: At least she actually saves Pokémon.
SEVIPER: That landslide last spring, the Wildfire a few months ago?
SEVIPER: It warned us well in Advance, told us what was going to happen, and lead us through it with no loss of life.
SEVIPER: while your supposed 'power' failed to see that poaching coming-

You saunter away from the Seviper's den in the roots of a juniper bush and make your way back home. Unfortunately, you do care. You care every time someone gets hurt because you couldn't stop it. You care every time you wake up in a cold sweat because you feel a new ping from your Doom Sense.

ABSOL: Mom! I'm home!

Your mother stops patching your grass bedding to come over and give you a hug. Which is a rather awkward human-ism she picked up from her time as a human's companion. Then she grooms a bit of fluff out of your eyes, using a single claw to comb it back into your head fur once she licked it wet.

ABSOL: Mooooom, I'm not a kid anymore, I can groom myself.
MOTHER ABSOL: sorry sweetie
MOTHER ABSOL: I just see some fur out of place and I move without thinking.
ABSOL: where's Dad?
MOTHER ABSOL: out foraging
MOTHER ABSOL: -or playing with those human cards with its buddies.
MOTHER ABSOL: Either way it will be home with dinner, or so help me Xerneas...

You roll your eyes. Domestic bliss, or something. It was life, anyway.

MOTHER ABSOL: oh how did it go with your newest prediction?
ABSOL: I don't want to talk about it.
MOTHER ABSOL: Ah.
MOTHER ABSOL: Another skeptic, then?

You sigh,

ABSOL: Yeaaahhhhhh.
ABSOL: I'm going to take a nap, If that's alright.
MOTHER ABSOL: sure!
MOTHER ABSOL: I finished your bed first just in case.
ABSOL: thanks, mom.

You settle down and try to relax, putting images of foul fates befalling that Seviper out of your head. Soon enough you're claimed by sleep. Soon enough your dad will be home.

That said Who is your dad? Pure Absol pairings are rare, as your kind tend to spread out and have their own territories to watch over. It's whatever. Cool that you got to learn a move from it though.

Anyway, I recently had the urge to continue this playthrough, but given the thread has been inactive for over a year now, it seemed a bit weird to hijack that thread just so I could get off my ADHD-having butt and revive an old project out of nowhere. So instead, I'm copying all the existing posts to this thread and continuing from there!

Hey everyone! It's the local robot enjoyer here.

I was racking my brain trying to come up with a game to play for Creaturefest, since I don't really play any "pet" games. After thinking about it, I realized this was an opportunity to revisit a beloved series of flash games from my childhood, the Bot Arena series. For those who don't know, the Bot Arena series is a trilogy of flash games made by Luke Haillay that involves building, managing, and upgrading a team of roombas with guns highly sophisticated combat robots. The gameplay is very simple, and the reason I chose it as a "pet" game is because you do not actually have direct control of your robots- you just equip them and let them loose in the arena against teams of increasingly well equipped enemy robots.

The game I'll be playing today is Bot Arena 3, as it's the only game in the series that gives you the ability to order your robots around, although this still isn't direct control. Sometimes your robots will misbehave, or do what they feel like despite your orders, but it's enough player input that I feel comfortable doing a challenge run of the game! The rules are simple: I can never have more than one robot in the arena at any one time. Having multiple robots in my workshop is fine (and I will be doing this since I'm playing ahead before I make the posts), but only one can be in the arena at once. The game is very much not designed to be played this way- you're expected to have two robots at minimum. This is going to make some levels extremely difficult or downright impossible, but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

Let's meet our robot!

"She/Them pronouns please!"

This is Schmoo, short for Schmoovement- which they'll be needing a lot of. Poor Schmoo is going to be constantly outnumbered and outgunned, and we'll have to work together to maneuver around and through the enemy team's defenses. Schmoo isn't always going to look like this, since I'll be upgrading them with better armor and weapons after each match. But they'll always have those flashy red highlights! Schmoo will roam around the arena on their own, but I can direct them to either move to a specific spot or follow a specific target. These two commands are essential to victory here, and will allow Schmoo to take down multiple opponents.

Our first match is at the Roxtan Park Arena, where we're greeted by the defending team, Wrecker and Steelheart.

"Oh, look at those baby guns. This should be a cakewalk."

Well...

While it's true that the weapons Wrecker and Steelheart are using do inflict less damage than Schmoo's, there's still two of them, and damage isn't the only important thing about a weapon. It's time to talk about FIRING DISTANCE.

Wrecker and Steelheart both use the Zintex LP, the cheapest and most basic weapon on the market. There's a lot of information here, but what we're concerned with is the firing distance, which in this case is between 25 to 170 units. I have no idea what these units actually are, since there's no name for them in game, but whatever. This means that if an enemy robot is closer than 25 units or further away than 170 units, the weapon will be unable to target them.

Now, let's take a look at what Schmoo's bringing.

As you can see, the damage on this weapon is far higher. But take a look at the firing distance- the range is actually a bit narrower than the Zintex! This is important because it means that there are certain ranges where Wrecker and Steelheart will be able to hit Schmoo, but Schmoo will not be able to hit them. If Schmoo is closer than 50 units away or further than 150 units away, the Zintex provides an extra 25 unit window that allows Wrecker and Steelheart to deal damage to Schmoo with no possible way for Schmoo to return fire.

Luckily, the enemy robots in this game don't have people like me driving them, so they very rarely know to exploit these gaps in firing range. But situations like these, where one robot is able to damage another robot while being safe from retaliation, are essential to beating these arenas while limited to just one robot. Even with the best armor and weapons, Schmoo will always be at a disadvantage due to being outnumbered (and most enemy teams will have the best armor/weapons equipped anyway), so she needs to create situations where the enemy team deals as little damage as possible to them.

With all that in mind, let's take a look at the match and see what we can learn going forward!

As you can see, despite Wrecker and Steelheart's weapons being weaker, they still deal a significant amount of damage to Schmoo. This means that in order to avoid taking damage, Schmoo needs to isolate a single target. I direct Schmoo to go after Wrecker first, as their armor is weaker. While engaging with Wrecker, I make sure to keep Schmoo as far away from Steelheart as possible. Once Wrecker is down, I direct Schmoo to attack Steelheart, making sure to keep their firing distance in mind and avoid getting too close or too far.

One final note: You may notice that I have many of the arenas unlocked, and a bunch of higher-level items in my inventory. This is because I have no idea whether the game is even possible to beat like this, and I'm playing ahead before I go back and record footage. Part 1: An Unexpected Encounter

Pathetic.

The last body slumped to the ground with a wet thud.

Weak.

He reached for the guard's keycard, smearing its surface with blood.

Worthless. HUMANS.

The reinforced double doors glided open with a soft hiss as he slid the keycard through the reader. The spartan room was full mostly of computers and terminals bearing the government logo, with a shimmering force-field sealing off another room on the far side.

All eyes turned to him, some wide in fear, some narrowed with resolve.

"Hmph." He leaped into the air, unleashing an arc of Chaos Spears into the chests of the nearest guards.

In a blink, he appeared on the other side of the room, dispatching the rest.

Three lab coats remained, frozen in place, cowering. They recognized this threat - knew there was no salvation in setting off the alarm.

Shadow scoffed as he strode up to the central terminal, the glowing Emerald nested into a recess, separated by a clear panel.

"Wait! Don't!"

Incredulously, the hedgehog turned his head just enough to meet the desperate gaze of the pale, brave researcher.

The woman wilted, but maintained her protest, "Y-you'll re-- ggh!"

Her neck was as delicate as a toothpick in his grasp, and snapped just as easily. The two surviving men simply watched in terror, their eyes darting wildly from the body of their fallen coworker, to Shadow, to the terminal.

Returning to the panel, the black hedgehog simply punched through the glass covering and lifted his prize to savor the moment.

The researchers' shrill screams disrupted his triumph as they clattered and scrambled their way towards the exit. Two Chaos Spears ended their escape. ...but why did they only run now--

Searing pain bloomed in his shoulder and belly as some force of fury rammed him- buried itself into his flesh, mixing the blood in his fur with his own.

"Augh! Rrrgh!" Shadow released a burst of chaos energy, knocking his assailant back with a powerful shockwave.

The creature appeared to be some sort of were-hog, or perhaps a mutant, knowing these sick fucks at GUN. Based on his own DNA, most likely - despite her ragged and emaciated appearance, there was no mistaking the markings on her head and the mass of tufted fur on her chest. But her eyes... were pure inferno; not a hint of recognition or even a simple thought behind them.

And then she was upon him again, shredding and tearing at him with unrelenting force. He did his best to deflect her blows, but more wounds opened across his flesh.

Fed up, he shoved her away and darted into the room where she had been sealed. She thundered after him, muzzle and claws gleaming with his fresh blood.

"Chaos... Control!" Shadow disappeared as her claws came down on him, appearing again beside the central terminal. He shoved the Emerald into the slot where it had rested before. The forcefield raised immediately, but failed to quell the onslaught.

The creature continued roaring and attempting to shred the impenetrable shield, leaving streaks of her own blood where she touched as her claws tore.

Seeing the futility of her rage, Shadow let go of a breath he hadn't realized he was holding, slumping onto the floor and leaning against the central terminal as he applied pressure to the worst of his wounds.

This is your warning now this is not Spoiler free. the book I'm on was released in 2010 and I... don't really think anyone is concerned about spoilers. This is also not me retelling the books, I'm just rambling. I welcome anyone else's thoughts, and I welcome questions. You're not gonna read these let me ramble.

I'm currently half way through Omen of Stars (Series 4). Theres about a half hour left of the third book, Night Whispers. Ivypaw and Dovepaw are still apprentices, and might start getting along again. I can only hope. I know I'm lying to myself. Flametail is... drowning. I was so happy to get out of thunderclan for a bit, and they've killed him.

Okay, I'm gonna start off with seemingly my most controversial take and the longest/most related to other lingering thoughts. I don't like Leafpool. I don't like her and I think they fumbled with what they wanted from her. Leafpaw was sweet and caring, and a huge worrier. She was always fussing over Squilf (I love Squrrielflight) and honestly, I loved hearing Leafpaws thoughts on other cats. She didn't like Hawkfrost right away, she wasn't fond of Brambleclaw, she loved her friend Sorreltail, and I understand Mothpool deeply because Leafpaw could not shut up about how beautiful Mothwing was. Leafpaw was a good character, I liked her, I like how her and Squrrielpaw balanced each other. I liked their magic emotional connection, Leafpaw biting burdock root so Squrrielpaw could know what herb to use on Tawnypelt's rat bites was such a cool thing to do. It was also a good way to make me, the reader, remember one of the various herbs. I've been, when I remember, putting those in my notes because I adore medicine cats.
Back on track, I adored Leafpaw. Leafpool is not the same cat. She's a lot more selfish and short tempered in the early days, and acts childish when Brightheart is helping Cinderpelt with the clan. Brightheart who I will point out is *PROBABLY* her littermate, and Leafpool is constantly in her littermate's business. (First arc problems, they were definitely in the nursery together and have the same mom, but half the litter is apprenticed much earlier. Cinderpaw and Brakenpaw, then Brightpaw and Thornpaw Later. IM COMING BACK TO THEM LATER!) Every time Leafpool said "But I'm a medicine cat!" when Crowfeather flirted with her I wanted to throw my phone into a pond. Maybe I'm cold but they did not make me care about her forbidden romance. And every time she justified it with "Cinderpelt is young, she'll be around for many moons" I knew my favorite girl was on borrowed time. I mean, I knew that already, but I can't explain to you how obvious they make it. I don't really care that her relationship didn't work out. He saved her one time, and I think that was the first time they really talked? And it was a love confession? It didn't make sense. And it ruined her to me at least.
In power of three, towards the series end when the secret is out, they really tried to make it seem like "Leafpool always loved her kits" but she was mean to them. She didn't give Hollypaw a chance to be a medicine cat apprentice because she seemed to assume Jaypaw HAD to be her apprentice. Like everyone else. I don't know that hollypaw was even given more than a moon. And them trying to be like "Holly's squeamish about injuries but so ready for battle" and "She can't remember herbs easily" was so frustrating. And she wasn't patient with either of her apprentices. She just seemed to expect them to know things (again, I think Hollypaw was only her apprentice for a single moon). Cinderpelt was shown to be patient with her, correct her gently and guide her. She started being impatient after she was fully named, but like... yeah that's seemingly normal for the cats. I'm supposed to think she cared so so deeply about her kits, but honestly the only kit/paw I thought she cared about was cinderpaw2 (Cinderheart, I'm gonna just call her that). She was almost smothering for cinderheart when the apprentice hurt her leg, and I know its a "well she didn't want cinderpelts ghost to do this again" but this was the first time I felt like she actually LIKED any of the other cats in the clan this arc. She's short with people, she's constantly badgering Jaypaw and hiding things from him or yelling at him, and then the book is like "Jayfeather can feel that shes sad" I don't care. Act like it? Please? Leafpool I want to like you.
Oh I dont think her and Lionpaw talked in an important way ever.
I think I'm supposed to pity her and know that she Is Sad because Jayfeather can tell, but they didn't make me agree with him. And her dumb drama ruined how people treated Squilf, who just wanted to help her sister. I'm supposed to be mad at them I think, but I'm.... really not. I'm not mad at Leafpool for having the kits, I'm mad that the writers didn't make me think she cared. I'm not mad Squilf cared for kits for her sister. Honestly, it's implied a few times that she didn't really handle being a fake queen well, I think they could have made her more uncomfortable as an adult with the kits and I'd believe Leafpool cared more. But they didn't really stick with this.
I wish theyd let me see warrior leafpool a bit more. She's been a warrior for maybe a year at this point and I wanna know how its going. Jayfeather is pissed she isn't bossing him around and keeps asking what he thinks about helping cats when he is asking her for help. She's acting like her training didn't happen and he's pissed. I agree with him, leafpool stop acting like a mouse.
TLDR: Leafpaw was great, Leafpool did not make me feel like she actually always loved her kits. She should have been a better mentor.

Also feel like I should say Squilf is Squrrielflight, one of the writers gave her that nickname. It's fun.

Off of this, I'm gonna talk about leafpool's kits for a second.
Lionpaw/Lionblaze is blood thirsty. He dreams of killing, and then when he does kill hes shocked and upset. He trained under Tigerstar and Hawkfrost in the dark forest, and then moons later is so quick to call dark forest trainees mouse brained. Particularly Ivypaw and Tigerheart, lionblaze needs to shut up. He constantly bounces between demanding Dovepaw use her powers to do more (hear more, see more, sense more, spy) and then goes "I hope she's not pushing herself too hard. I hope she doesn't feel like all the clans' issues are in her paws." YOU are making her feel like they are. His romance with Cinderheart has come out of nowhere, but also I like them. For now I like this pair. Im coming back to write he's bitchy about the fact Firestar won't let him go to the mountains 1 time. I want more people to tell him no.
Hollypaw was my favorite until she got like... too into the warrior code. She was the most well rounded, and the least whiny. And she's not the first cat to be into the warrior code, I think it was even a good idea, but it kind of ruined her personality. Until she killed Ashfur. Hollyleaf after killing Ashfur is such an interesting character. The fact the in the other chapters, those perspective characters already had talked about "I wonder who killed Ashfur" meant that when she didn't think about it I almost didn't notice. She was so focused on finding Sol so he could tell her who her dad was, so uninterested in the murder that had been talked about repeatedly, that it almost makes you forget WHY cats wanted Sol. Hollyleaf you are fascinating, as I'm writing this Jayfeather and Lionblaze just realized she's not dead and hiding in tunnels, can't wait till you come back to die again. Hollypaw was a very caring apprentice who worried about her brothers constantly, Hollyleaf is angry and listens to emo pop.
Jaypaw was a whiny mean baby and I loved it. He was mean to Brightheart which was uncalled for, and he hated apprentice duties. Hated cleaning ticks, hated fetching moss, talked about how unfair it was he had to do normal apprentice duty before exploring. AND THEN, when he was taken to explore, he complained that he knew everything already (then walked off and almost drowned, was saved by his secret dad). Jaypaw does not come across to me as a "good medicine cat apprentice" because he basically hates everyone and everything. I'm almost positive he even talked about not feeding the elders. BUT, Leafpool picked him and basically wouldn't shut up about it. Because.... why. He remembers herbs from scents? Truly I think only Brightheart even gave him a chance to try being a warrior, but I think he was a shitty apprentice to give her. He needed an experienced mentor, one who would call him on his bs. Leafpool and Jayfeather never seemed to get along, I kind hate them in every scene together. Jayfeathers favorite cat was the stick. Jayfeather is fascinating to me because one chapter he will complain that cats get hurt too often and then complain that no one has needed him today. Also he gardens??? It's smart for a medicine cat, but i love when they make the mean character garden. And it's implied this is a him thing, not a normal clan thing. Good job Jayfeather. One more thing, but I'm gonna spoil this. Nothing graphic but uh... birth warn? Im mostly gonna talk about kits this is me being overly cautious

I'm also supposed to think these three are super close, but theyre not. I don't think I Jayfeather and Lionblaze have a conversation until Hollyleaf is "dead". Hollyleaf and Jayfeather actually get along very well, they bicker a little but he doesn't seem upset when she tries to help him. Jayfeather gets along with she cats better, except for Leafpool. Lionblaze and Hollyleaf never seem to agree, they are fighting constantly. These three are so so close, but they're not. They're really not. I love these three. Hollyleaf is the only one who didn't make me feel like she wanted to be evil at some point as a teen, then she committed murder.
TLDR: Lionblaze needs anger management, Hollyleaf put herself in a timeout, and Jayfeather hates you.

Cinderpelt is my favorite cat, and she remains that. She's been dead for almost two series now and I miss her. I hate that she "needed to die for the plot" I was attached and this doesn't help with me being mad at Leafpool. She could be sassy like her wonderful mentor Yellowfang, she was an energetic curse of an apprentice for fireheart, and she was a gentle mentor for leafpaw. Her and littlecloud's frienship is incredibly touching, I love that she ignored yellowfang to help a cat in need, and he said, "Yeah I want to be her". I would have loved more scenes with them, or him learning about her death. Let me be emotional Erin Hunters.
At one-point Firestar says "she acts more like Yellowfang every day" when she really isn't acting like Yellowfang in my opinion. But he says it in a "I'm so happy she stands up for herself" way. To punish Firestar and Yellowfang for this, the universe made Jayfeather. Jayfeather is Yellowfang but younger. Yellowfang and Jayfeather are a funny duo who basically flip eachother off in half death.
It's pretty obvious to me that they didn't really know what to do with the ghost subplot. Knowing a little of whats happening in the current series the new team might actually be doing the concept better. But I'm in series 4 not series 9, Moonpaw isn't real yet, and isn't here to remind me that was exactly what I wanted my rp cat to look like at 12. Cinderheart is... a good enough character. I kind of wish Cinderpelt haunting her was handled better, and wasn't just used to make Leafpool and Jayfeather stare at her over dying cats begging for help.
Related to Cinderpelt, Brightheart is a darling and her and Cloudtail have maybe the best relationship? It's not really focused on at this point, but they got along before her accident. He definitely had a crush but wasn't weird about it, and she got along with him. Honestly, I thought her and Swiftpaw would have more of a problem with Cloudtail, but really, they were just mad about being left behind when he's made a warrior. And he was so sweet with her after the dogs, when other cats reacted with fear. Even got mad at his kittypet mom. Helped Lostface (Brightheart's punishment name) figure out fighting moves and hunting techniques to make up for her lost senses (half blind, half deaf, I think balance problems, but also, I don't know specifically). There's a brief period of issue where Cloudtail is trying to help Daisy adjust to clan life, and Brightheart is jealous. I... actually feel like this was realistic. I feel like Cloudtail is shown to be caring, and kind of portrayed to be dumb enough not to see the issue. Not to pick up on flirting. And Brightheart was very hurt by Daisy being so scared of her, so her getting angry with Cloudtail was... I don't think she was really mad at him, just hurt. And normally he helped her, so now him hurting her was... ah. But I kind of love that they let them have this fight. Let the cats fight and make up.
Frostfur and Lionheart's litter of kits is cursed in a weird way to me. The males, Brakenfur and Thornclaw, are just guys. They're there! I think they're both tabbies that are brown and if the erins need a "responsible male cat" they pick one of them. The average background guys! Now you have the girls, who both suffer tragic accidents as apprentices. WOW. I... I don't think that was on purpose. Cinderpelt's leg and Brighthearts face aren't actually a curse, or the Erin's even trying to purposely say something. They just had two cats they wanted to use, and weirdly they were from the same litter PROBABLY. Theres no explanation for why half the litter is apprenticed later, just know that and move on.

Briarlight is darling and also cursed. The Erin's keep almost killing her, and her back injury actually made me cry (not hard but my eyes were teary). Starting with her as a kit, when she's pretty young her and Millie (her mom) are two of the first cats to get the green cough outbreak. Briarkit probably should have died, im gonna be honest. It takes a life from Firestar, who gets sick later than her and is a stronger cat (full grown cat vs basically a newborn). But only Firestar dies, because he has spare lives. More cats should die. I'm happy she didn't but that's a separate issue. THEN Briarkit, close to apprentice age I think, almost gets bit by a snake. Honeyfern protects her and dies, this poor kit can't escape almost death.
On the day of Briarpaw's assessment to become a warrior, after her and her sibling celebrate passing, a tree falls into camp. I knew this would happen, I didn't know the details. Dovepaw hearing the tree fall and trying to rush everyone, people freaking out, Mousefur (I love her) being old and not wanting to leave her bed and then insisting they go back for a mouse. A Mouse. I was expecting Briarpaw's accident, I didn't know this was how Longtail died at the same time. Longtail had been such a joy since the early books, his death hurt. And hearing Briarpaw's desperation and pain as she couldn't move her legs, as cats struggled to pull her and Longtail's body out from under the tree that was going to collapse further, it was a lot. It was a lot. I knew this was gonna hurt a bit more after everything with Chappy, but fuck man I wish she'd live forever. She was supposed die for the record, but Vicky (one of the original Erins) had unfortunately had a cousin who had a tragic accident, a spinal injury. So she really wanted to figure out ways Jayfeather could help Briarlight, sort of a way to get through her cousin's injury and kind of support him. Hope the guys doing well for what it's worth.
Briarlight is already a pretty good cat for jayfeather to be around, but I'm looking forward to this continuing. The medicine den needs a nice helper cat. It's not Jayfeather, and not really Leafpool. The books think its Leafpool but it's a lie.
I don't love cats talking about Briarlight's injury. Millie keeps yelling at Jayfeather for making Briarlight do things, and it hurts Briarlight. Before this I liked Millie, but this injury has brought out something awful in her. However, Jayfeather is kind of a hypocrite. He thinks at one point in a book that Briarlight might have been better off dead like Longtail, then gets pissed later when Millie says that she wishes her daughter was maybe dead rather than this. Its a bad interaction all around, no one is in the right here, and I'm pretty sure this is all ableism. Jayfeather isn't really mad she thinks that he's mad she said it where Briarlight can hear. Now to be fair, yeah it's not realistic for a wild cat with this injury to last super long. I'm happy she makes it a few years but... Yeah her dying kind of young is real. And when I get there, I will cry. For now she's getting stronger and I love her.

Okay last thing I really need to say is I love Blackstar. Blackstar hasn't done anything wrong in a while, and I kind of agree with him about Thunderclan being in everyone's business and expecting the other clans to be forever in their debt. Even when all the clans help. Honestly Firestar didn't think like that, but Jayfeather and Lionblaze sure do. Even Dovepaw kind of does, but she's also extremely stressed that she can constantly hear ways to help every clan. I'm willing to ignore the child thinking like her older cousin mentor guy. Blackstar's biggest crime as leader was briefly having a twink boyfriend (Sol) and giving up Starclan, but I think leaders just need to do that sometimes. Shadowclan is supposed to be evil and sneaky but outside of the first series where Brokenstar is baby killer evil, Shadowclan is just vibing. And Tigerstar was their leader, but he's mostly Thunderclans fault imo. Windclan is a bigger issue, and Riverclan even helps them one-time raiding thunderclan, but shadowclan helps thunderclan in this fight. Then the eclipse stops the war, and then Sol flirts with Blackstar... yeah. Power of three has so many plots. Shadowclan being evil is over played, theyre kind of just chill. I love you Blackstar, I'm happy you decided to be a better leader than Tigerstar.
Riverclan cats love dying on adventures. Silverstream when the six go to the mountain in series 2, and Rippletail in series 4 when they go to fight the beavers. Stormfur also leaves during the great journey and stays with the tribe, good for him and his wife. Can't wait for all the clans to send cats on boat in series 6 and lose Riverclan to sharks, and cats from all the clans to go to space in series 8 and Riverclan to take off their helmets. This is a joke, as far as I know the cats haven't built a boat yet.

Okay after a day has passed and I'm finishing this the following night, I am about halfway through the 5th book in this 6 book series. Ivypool and Dovewing are friends again yay! Hollyleaf is helping Thunderclan from her tunnels, Lionblaze just went to look for her but instead has found Sol. I think they're trying to make Sol scary but Sol isn't scary. Oh and I kind of love traveling plots, but they keep making the tribe seem worse which is sad.

Watching someone play the Clangen Cruel season demo (It's only in the dev version so hopefully we get it soon!)

Hopefully any future update will be shorter. This was a lot that has built up in my head.

This is your warning now this is not Spoiler free. the book I'm on was released in 2010 and I... don't really think anyone is concerned about spoilers. This is also not me retelling the books, I'm just rambling. I welcome anyone else's thoughts, and I welcome questions. You're not gonna read these let me ramble.

I'm currently half way through Omen of Stars (Series 4). Theres about a half hour left of the third book, Night Whispers. Ivypaw and Dovepaw are still apprentices, and might start getting along again. I can only hope. I know I'm lying to myself. Flametail is... drowning. I was so happy to get out of thunderclan for a bit, and they've killed him.

Okay, I'm gonna start off with seemingly my most controversial take and the longest/most related to other lingering thoughts. I don't like Leafpool. I don't like her and I think they fumbled with what they wanted from her. Leafpaw was sweet and caring, and a huge worrier. She was always fussing over Squilf (I love Squrrielflight) and honestly, I loved hearing Leafpaws thoughts on other cats. She didn't like Hawkfrost right away, she wasn't fond of Brambleclaw, she loved her friend Sorreltail, and I understand Mothpool deeply because Leafpaw could not shut up about how beautiful Mothwing was. Leafpaw was a good character, I liked her, I like how her and Squrrielpaw balanced each other. I liked their magic emotional connection, Leafpaw biting burdock root so Squrrielpaw could know what herb to use on Tawnypelt's rat bites was such a cool thing to do. It was also a good way to make me, the reader, remember one of the various herbs. I've been, when I remember, putting those in my notes because I adore medicine cats.
Back on track, I adored Leafpaw. Leafpool is not the same cat. She's a lot more selfish and short tempered in the early days, and acts childish when Brightheart is helping Cinderpelt with the clan. Brightheart who I will point out is *PROBABLY* her littermate, and Leafpool is constantly in her littermate's business. (First arc problems, they were definitely in the nursery together and have the same mom, but half the litter is apprenticed much earlier. Cinderpaw and Brakenpaw, then Brightpaw and Thornpaw Later. IM COMING BACK TO THEM LATER!) Every time Leafpool said "But I'm a medicine cat!" when Crowfeather flirted with her I wanted to throw my phone into a pond. Maybe I'm cold but they did not make me care about her forbidden romance. And every time she justified it with "Cinderpelt is young, she'll be around for many moons" I knew my favorite girl was on borrowed time. I mean, I knew that already, but I can't explain to you how obvious they make it. I don't really care that her relationship didn't work out. He saved her one time, and I think that was the first time they really talked? And it was a love confession? It didn't make sense. And it ruined her to me at least.
In power of three, towards the series end when the secret is out, they really tried to make it seem like "Leafpool always loved her kits" but she was mean to them. She didn't give Hollypaw a chance to be a medicine cat apprentice because she seemed to assume Jaypaw HAD to be her apprentice. Like everyone else. I don't know that hollypaw was even given more than a moon. And them trying to be like "Holly's squeamish about injuries but so ready for battle" and "She can't remember herbs easily" was so frustrating. And she wasn't patient with either of her apprentices. She just seemed to expect them to know things (again, I think Hollypaw was only her apprentice for a single moon). Cinderpelt was shown to be patient with her, correct her gently and guide her. She started being impatient after she was fully named, but like... yeah that's seemingly normal for the cats. I'm supposed to think she cared so so deeply about her kits, but honestly the only kit/paw I thought she cared about was cinderpaw2 (Cinderheart, I'm gonna just call her that). She was almost smothering for cinderheart when the apprentice hurt her leg, and I know its a "well she didn't want cinderpelts ghost to do this again" but this was the first time I felt like she actually LIKED any of the other cats in the clan this arc. She's short with people, she's constantly badgering Jaypaw and hiding things from him or yelling at him, and then the book is like "Jayfeather can feel that shes sad" I don't care. Act like it? Please? Leafpool I want to like you.
Oh I dont think her and Lionpaw talked in an important way ever.
I think I'm supposed to pity her and know that she Is Sad because Jayfeather can tell, but they didn't make me agree with him. And her dumb drama ruined how people treated Squilf, who just wanted to help her sister. I'm supposed to be mad at them I think, but I'm.... really not. I'm not mad at Leafpool for having the kits, I'm mad that the writers didn't make me think she cared. I'm not mad Squilf cared for kits for her sister. Honestly, it's implied a few times that she didn't really handle being a fake queen well, I think they could have made her more uncomfortable as an adult with the kits and I'd believe Leafpool cared more. But they didn't really stick with this.
I wish theyd let me see warrior leafpool a bit more. She's been a warrior for maybe a year at this point and I wanna know how its going. Jayfeather is pissed she isn't bossing him around and keeps asking what he thinks about helping cats when he is asking her for help. She's acting like her training didn't happen and he's pissed. I agree with him, leafpool stop acting like a mouse.
TLDR: Leafpaw was great, Leafpool did not make me feel like she actually always loved her kits. She should have been a better mentor.

Also feel like I should say Squilf is Squrrielflight, one of the writers gave her that nickname. It's fun.

Off of this, I'm gonna talk about leafpool's kits for a second.
Lionpaw/Lionblaze is blood thirsty. He dreams of killing, and then when he does kill hes shocked and upset. He trained under Tigerstar and Hawkfrost in the dark forest, and then moons later is so quick to call dark forest trainees mouse brained. Particularly Ivypaw and Tigerheart, lionblaze needs to shut up. He constantly bounces between demanding Dovepaw use her powers to do more (hear more, see more, sense more, spy) and then goes "I hope she's not pushing herself too hard. I hope she doesn't feel like all the clans' issues are in her paws." YOU are making her feel like they are. His romance with Cinderheart has come out of nowhere, but also I like them. For now I like this pair. Im coming back to write he's bitchy about the fact Firestar won't let him go to the mountains 1 time. I want more people to tell him no.
Hollypaw was my favorite until she got like... too into the warrior code. She was the most well rounded, and the least whiny. And she's not the first cat to be into the warrior code, I think it was even a good idea, but it kind of ruined her personality. Until she killed Ashfur. Hollyleaf after killing Ashfur is such an interesting character. The fact the in the other chapters, those perspective characters already had talked about "I wonder who killed Ashfur" meant that when she didn't think about it I almost didn't notice. She was so focused on finding Sol so he could tell her who her dad was, so uninterested in the murder that had been talked about repeatedly, that it almost makes you forget WHY cats wanted Sol. Hollyleaf you are fascinating, as I'm writing this Jayfeather and Lionblaze just realized she's not dead and hiding in tunnels, can't wait till you come back to die again. Hollypaw was a very caring apprentice who worried about her brothers constantly, Hollyleaf is angry and listens to emo pop.
Jaypaw was a whiny mean baby and I loved it. He was mean to Brightheart which was uncalled for, and he hated apprentice duties. Hated cleaning ticks, hated fetching moss, talked about how unfair it was he had to do normal apprentice duty before exploring. AND THEN, when he was taken to explore, he complained that he knew everything already (then walked off and almost drowned, was saved by his secret dad). Jaypaw does not come across to me as a "good medicine cat apprentice" because he basically hates everyone and everything. I'm almost positive he even talked about not feeding the elders. BUT, Leafpool picked him and basically wouldn't shut up about it. Because.... why. He remembers herbs from scents? Truly I think only Brightheart even gave him a chance to try being a warrior, but I think he was a shitty apprentice to give her. He needed an experienced mentor, one who would call him on his bs. Leafpool and Jayfeather never seemed to get along, I kind hate them in every scene together. Jayfeathers favorite cat was the stick. Jayfeather is fascinating to me because one chapter he will complain that cats get hurt too often and then complain that no one has needed him today. Also he gardens??? It's smart for a medicine cat, but i love when they make the mean character garden. And it's implied this is a him thing, not a normal clan thing. Good job Jayfeather. One more thing, but I'm gonna spoil this. Nothing graphic but uh... birth warn? Im mostly gonna talk about kits this is me being overly cautious

Lets make this nice and quick, I'll update as needed.

2026 FIGHTING GAME OVERVIEW PART 1 -

STREET FIGHTER 6 - THE GENRE LEADER

Three years in it's still by far the best entry point right now for a number of key reasons:

It does everything possible to teach you the game and break down most of the main barriers people have getting into it. Its onboarding its smooth, its learning process is intuitive, it is rich in content and strong in terms of presentation. It's not necissarily going to be everyone's game with it's slower grounded gameplay contrasted against high damage and a few oddities akin to the VS series leading to it being less "pure" by some oldhead standards but it does the job pretty damn well. Character is put on the forefront more than the series has since I'd argue Alpha which is great.

As far as DLC has gone, Year 3 feels like it wanted to cleanse the palette by having every new character bring something fresh and different in contrast to how homogonized Year 2 felt with Terry and Mai as two more all-rounders and Bison being a strike/throw machine in a game full of them. Sagat is a heavy brawler with big buttons made fresh and fun with hits new focus on Muay Thai strikes as if they took the comparisons to Fahkuram of Tekken personally. C.Viper is pure fun if you're someone who loves having plenty of options and room for personal expression. Alex... well, that I'll save for its own post. Ingrid is the main one I'm waiting for personally, I was praying she'd be something straight out of Darkstalkers and instead she's a full on anime fighter character.

Tournament entry numbers are massively skewed toward this game, and while I'm not too fond of the marketing side of this game handling Capcom Cup the way they did the core gameplay is still fun if needing a bit more tuning of the top cast.

DRAGON BALL FIGHTERZ - IT'S BACK AGAIN

Bandai Namco seemingly has taken the wheel fully from Arc Sys, Daima Goku is fun but he looks and plays like a fan mod. I think the game still maintains the power of being a fun casual fighter and incredible presentation but it's clear the days of it being one of the big hitters are long gone after too many gameplay overhauls in the wrong direction. Still, it's a palette cleanser to come back to after a certain other Tag Fighter this year we'll talk about.

I have to note he's 8 USD unlike the other characters who at full price are 5 USD so you're paying more for less, emblematic of 2026 really.

GUILTY GEAR STRIVE 2.0 - BACK TO BASICS

Strive has always been a game I've had a massive love hate relationship. When it launched it was fun but matches took ten minutes to find due to a awful lobby system via the Tower and outside of a handful of characters everyone feeling very undertuned and unfinished. Still, this entire game runs off the power and presence of its cast and despite ultimately finding it hard to stomach as this weird mishmash of SFV-isms and a toned down streamlined air dasher loosely playing into the legacy of its old games I keep coming back every once in awhile.

Season 4 was a big push with a guest, a anime miniseries (a pretty bad one honestly), a normal quickplay ranked system, and the most taboo thing of all:
Adding a conventional shoto ala Ryu/Ken/Akuma through Unika. It did good for the game but ultimately if you weren't sold on the current massively powercrept and messy state of it.. it wasn't going to be for you.

2.0 is a massive overhaul of the game and systems, one that is genuinely great for the most part albeit with a few key points of pain to bring up.

Jam is finally here, she has a bunny, all is pretty good right now in the world. She's very fun to play with her big flashy moves and speed in a game where half the cast is weirdly heavy for a Arc Sys fighter and while she's undeniably overtuned right now she's a welcome addition. Her Arcade mode having multiple chapters ala Blazblue's acts is also nice, something introduced for Lucy that seems to now be the standard going forward.

There will be alt costumes, weapon skins, a progression system, and battle passes ala Granblue Versus which are not fully implemented but if they're similarly priced and they continue the model of bringing back items later, that'll be nice.

Across the board offense and damage have mostly been nerfed with a few outliers (Millia, Leo, Nagoryuki, May, Jam and Happy Chaos are a whole conversation) allowing a more back and forth and interactive game. Wild Assault, a mechanic meant to add a universal neutral skip (increasingly the standard with SF6's Drive Rush, Granblue's 66L, Tekken's Heat, etc) was removed and replaced with something low power after being dominant and contributing to Season 3/4 feeling absurdly aggressive and snowbally. Movesets are reworked, everyone got patched and..

It puts me at a odd spot. At a core its a mechanically more thought out, smarter game that asks more from the player. It also further homogonized the individual characters by removing unique stregnths and making a lot of them... boring. Many of the attempts to revamp kits (Happy Chaos, Testament, Asuka) feel like they don't really work, legacy attributes of characters were removed just for the sake of being different ranging from Millia no longer having a anti-air standing Slash like previous games to.. making Sol a proper fireball shoto and gutting his Heavy Volcanic Viper, a move that was the core of his plan since the 2D games.

It's healthy for the long run, it has a lot of promise and it's made me play the game a ton more but it went from a mechanically shit game with a incredibly fun cast to a mechanically solid game with a significantly less interesting cast. The quickplay play being weirdly slow compared to Granblue or FighterZ is also a factor that hurts (sometimes wiaitng ten minutes during heavily populated hours) but every issue I have feels like something that can be fixed.

TEKKEN 8 - BIGGER THAN EVER

You'll get to hear my thoughts on this proper when Bob comes out, I haven't bothered with this one. I already miss Harada not gonna lie.

2XKO - THE GAME THAT WILL SAVE THE FGC...?

Look I respect that the dev team is full of super notable FGC pioneers and all but man this game really does embody that the whole "Fighting Game Characters are Functions" doesn't actually work? I'm gonna have to admit here deep down I really wanted this one to be good but it had all the red flags from early on that screamed "Yeah this one's fucked." and.. yeah this one's fucked. I won't say I hate it, I just think every decision was a mistake?

The big wave of people coming in through Dragon Ball Fighterz, through Strive, through SF6 is not going to be down to play a old school tag fighter where you die if you fuck up and you learn 30 second long TODs. The League fans aren't down to jump in on a game that turns their favorite characters into generic action figures that prioritize being a homage Yuzuhira from Under-Night in Birth over the characters they're invested in. It launched barebones, broken, only marketed to the hardcore FGC, and only appeals to people with a tolerance for bullshit developed by eating decades of Iron Man infinites.

The worst part is.. it's probably the most fun game mechanically here in a lot of ways, it is the most rewarding of a variety of skillsets. Too bad everything else about it feels like it barely made it out of Alpha. 30 USD skins aren't helping, Valorant rotating store and prices are probably a bigger reason launch flopped than just being too hard and unpolished.

Gato is good at it though so that's fun.

GRANBLUE FANTASY VERSUS RISING - SLEEPER HIT STILL KICKING

2XKO - THE GAME THAT WILL SAVE THE FGC...?

This game still continues to be the best entry point if you're looking outside of DBFZ. It's very vibrant and lively with the same love and attention Arc Sys puts into games like Guilty Gear and DBFZ and even though I'm not the most familiar with the IP it's based on I'm always excited to see new characters. It is loaded with content and plenty of unlocks, a lobby with a lovely vibe, and a large cast that caters to every playstyle possible. It's my favorite being both a grounded weapons fighter and having some of that Blazblue sauce despite how drastically different the gameplay is and if you're looking at Marvel Tokon this is the closest game to it in a lot of ways. I'm hoping we get a Season 3 but for now a major update coming ith a new character is plenty.

This is also the gayest game in the genre outside of niche super indie stuff.

I'll get to the pile of Tokon, Avatar Legends, Them's Fightin Herds, Invincible vs, Hunter x Hunter, etc at some point.

let me start...

we've started plushmaking for the first time in over 10 years! we're starting how we did back when we were kids, with socks as a primary material. our supplies are pretty limited at the moment, but once we move to our new place and get settled in, we should be able to start thrifting and getting primarily vintage supplies. our friend feely is even going to give us a sewing machine! here are our two plushes we've made so far:

neither of these guys have names yet, but this is our system's plush. he is a little weirdo! everyone keeps calling him a bat. his ears are a diff fabric due to us uh. cutting the head badly. and don't ask me what his back legs look like. we might give him a tail eventually!

okay, well. as it turns out, i'm a lot less skilled at plushmaking than bit. plural skill difference continues to be a thing, especially with something we haven't done in 10 years. even so- we made this guy for como, and como loves it. it helps that we aren't distressed at all by lumpy or "misshapen" plushes- we just want to make little guys, and it's fun no matter what. the construction's pretty solid, too! i learned a lot.

i really want to make more of these. like, a lot of these. i'll probably wait until after our move on the second to do so, but man! we're cookin!

these things are also stimmy as fuck. seriously, best plush to aggressively squeeze- and they love it. they really do.]]>

Dog Blog

So not gonna post pictures of dogs here, just don’t know logistics of that and eeeee better to not.

I’m going to be going to three different sleepovers in the following 2 weeks. Starting tomorrow and I think I’m like…. Out till the 2nd? We don’t normally do back to back like this but stuff came up so eh. First one is short, like 3 days so nbd, haven’t had a sleepover with Bloo in like a year. He’s a big spoiled sweetie, pittie.

After that is a pittie and a bulldog named Teddy and Polly, then two pittie mixes (Bailey and Journey, who are littermates) and their cat sister (Isabelle). Ma is actually starting the Bailey and Journey sleepover cause it overlaps with the Polly Teddy one, there’s a chance she’s staying on it but not completely sure atm. Think it will depend on her knee.

Let’s see quick updates…

Chappo, a pittie dog that’s more my little brother's client, and his dog brother Ace (deaf boxer) and cat brother Austin (old man) are doing good. Not this past weekend, the one before, little brother had them and Chappo ended up very sick. They avoided surgery at least, he’s a bit more like himself, but still hoping he fully recovers soon.
JJ, the dalmatian puppy (well he’s almost 2 now but he’s the baby) went away for show training. He’s gonna be gone for 3 months at least so I’ll miss him, have to get him for a play date with Maizy when he gets back. Their owners got puppies the same week, they’re roughly the same age, so they’ve kinda grown up together. That was a hellish week though as the pet sitter lol, partly cause I was still at Rite Aid and things were just about to blow up. JJ’s grandfather, Topper (who lives with him) is a grand champion (I don’t know what he’s won don’t ask me) so JJ has like… family to live up to hah. He’s a wild child.
I’ve been doing a few walks to get to know Polly and Teddy before the sleepover, owners are a bit nervous but that’s okay. Door will sometimes open though, so Teddy got out on me. He faked me out, ran into the neighbor's yard barking, then went next door to the grandmother's house after I went looking. That was… Friday I think, he did the same thing to the owners this weekend but with his sister this time. Good to know these things before visits just to be safe, the owners had warned us at the Meet and Greet but you kinda forget things.
Drake, or Drakey, is the oldest of the three black labs I walk with in the woods. It’s him, his son (Gauge) and his son (Beneli)(I am probably spelling that wrong). All are hunting dogs, Drake is too old for it now though so ex hunting dog. He was acting a little funny today, think he was sore, and skipped breakfast and treats, which meant he had skipped his pill in the morning. He took it with some cheese, hopefully today was just an off day for him. Walking in the woods is always nice to clear my head a little, path is a bit messed up right now, we had a bad rain storm a few weeks ago and like 3 or 4 trees fell or logs moved so still adjusting a little to not get lost.

Other thoughts for here um…

Someone remind me to update my art thread sometime

I have two forum things I’m trying to work on, the forum profiles are part of one of those. Have to think of a user name for Lance, my stitched up cut type. He was a Paradise tcp but I wanna move him to Haven or somewhere in Hearth, thinking I’ll give him a motorcycle and some Sipsappers as pets (maybe give one one of those Spikey jackets they put on small dogs)

Wanna do more with Field Factor in general, honestly I need to think of some more AITA stuff (it’s fun). Maybe Streamy being a jerk to Medea (they get along, Streamy just has to be a little annoying okay? Okay.

Trying to be pretty quiet about things but I need to bully myself into making the mood boards I need for the one thing. Gonna do that after this, if I can focus.

Maiden has some plants now too. I was gonna just doing a like… joke meme with them, but the three she got are really cute so now I wanna draw them. Maybe instead of being with their food, they could be attacking an enemy? Maybe a tiny seed…. Idk we shall see

I use procreate on my iPad to draw, and they recently came out with Procreate Dream which is for animations…. Yeah. Just got that. Would just like to do some small stuff, have to learn how to download audio mp3 first (I am stupid and there isn’t a lot of videos yet about the app. I also just… haven’t wanted to sit down and commit to learning at the moment)

thinking a lot about old style blogging lately. about how social media used to be, and the fact that our interests remain in a weird quantum state of "being talked about frequently but desiring deeper engagement even if it's just with ourselves." we've run a dreamwidth account before and did very much enjoy that, but didn't stick with it for whatever reason. tumblr blogging feels like it falls under shit that's just too close to Modern Social Media Tactics and maybe we just want to have a little corner of the web that's ours to post stuff in. as it turns out, we do in fact have a website and that website has a forum and you can make little blog posts on forums. no one can stop you!

so fair warning: this is gonna get self indulgent. really self indulgent.

we'll try to image describe where we can!
things this blog will probably contain
- petz gameplay and graphics experiments (vs Hexing Work, see petz general thread for that)
- second life avatars, adventures, photography, etc
- misc OC work unrelated to official projects
- pokemon, especially romhacks/randomizers/fangames
- system ramblings, both on mundane shit (probably nothing super personal, just things we'd casually talk about in morbchat anyway and think is interesting for people to know) and "mechanical" stuff- we find it's really valuable to read about how other systems work, and would love to contribute our own stuff to the discussion
- toys, both collecting, photography, etc
- rambles about object sentience and attachments
- kin....things....? maybe?

today's topic...i'm revisiting a personal pet i made last year as an attempt to make a petz "kinsona" i could use for photography. i decided to make a cat based on the animal crossing wild world horse mackerel, seeing as i've got big time feelings about a lot of our experiences with that game. aquatic cats seem to be a big thing for me, and i had a lot of fun making this guy...and then proceeded to do absolutely zero things with him. he doesn't even have a name yet! but now he is here, and i'm going to try playing with him a little every day while fronting. i hope you like him!

trying something a little new with the graphics here...what do you think? i think if i make any more animal crossing guys (tempting....it'd be fun to make him an apple companion, or something more based on fashion design for krowling...or more fish and bugs!) i'll do similarly for a background, seeing as the textures are pretty readily available on nookipedia, and they look super nice!

dressup was fairly simple. i considered trying a proper sweater/pants combo like we usually do, but it didn't feel right to cover his body gradient. maybe i'll make some proper animal crossing shirts for him to wear. orange seems to be a good accent color, which is awesome considering it's a favorite of mine. plaid orange shirt maybe...

last discovery of right now: this guy fucking hates most food. he is picky as hell. he apparently has high food finickiness, which we're not super familiar with! our toxic trait is not actually feeding our petz often, whoops. but this guy HATES most treats and we've yet to figure what types he's actually good with. maybe another thing to hex him when we do figure it out? extremely funny though considering my attachments to food and being a lazy villager.

but yeah, this guy! please tell us your thoughts on this guy. open to name suggestions, but i'd like it to be animal crossing themed in some way.

one more thing: some custom infinite fusion plushes we ordered got here today!
