[ABBERANT_INCANDESCENCE]:
huh! i have a couple of doodads of this sort in my spare parts drawers. i'll go grab some. they came with some little manuals and i've tested them out a bit so i can actually give a bit of information. i, haven't heard of the company that made them before? if its a company. but, i found them in a pawn shop and thought they might be useful for something, eventually. i have yet to find a use for any of them but one, so. i suppose i'll? list these here. in case anyone is interested in them. they're all a bit gimmicky. i might have a couple more but i have to dig through the spare parts drawers more and, these were pretty close at hand.
first up there's, this questionable design. it has an interesting idea of, what if there was no display and instead someone voice acted all of the sound. for some reason the speaker provided has a grate shaped like some sort of three rows of teeth. that doesn't really make sense. anyway if you flip that little 'eye' you can hook it up to headphones or a speaker, but. maybe don't. the manual helps explain what some of the buttons do but uh. i want you to imagine how well a narrated minigame works. also the alert sound is basically just 'help!' 'aaaah!' 'oh no!' and stuff like that. there's also the little grips on it, for. um. i don't know. holding? i would think holding.
i know what you're thinking. this is a not virtual pet. but, i promise. it was in the same box and it has the same wonders. basically when its not in use it has its lil face. but otherwise that display is an albeit a bit hard to get used to, completely functioning virtual pet screen. its a lil bit of a weird ui design since, it has to work with the weird screen but! it's pretty neat. it has a few things as far as the lil pets inside go that i've seen? the manual says there's some other ones but i haven't figured out how to get them. i know for sure there's what i think is a little bird thing? a pet rock. and, a bear. um. other than that, the most interesting thing is probably the 'buttons'. see, whoever made this decided 'i hate buttons. i want something that is not buttons' i suppose. since, there are no standard buttons. you instead have to manipulate the lil doodads like the ears, the horn. i don't know why the dog has a singular horn or no legs. anyway there's that. the tail, and a couple spots on the side as well as on the top. some involve rotation or petting or whatever. i don't know why using medicine involves the ear flaps? um anyway. this one also has some alright inbuilt speakers. i haven't found an audio cable spot for this one though. i think this one was made later since the manual does reference the prior one in one of those 'you've seen product X. but you're not ready for project Y.' blurbs.
uh. i don't know how to actually list these as but. if you are interested in one? i guess let me know. i'll work out details when that's actually relevant. if not feel free to have a good laugh at the sillyness of these designs. if you need or just want some more info i can probably spiel on a bit more but i think i hit most important things. i'll probably also take a closer look at some of the other stuff in this thread in a short whoosh after i get some work done.
