Worse than that.... the pocket those people were born into, cracks naturally formed. Without the being that created it, it was destined to fall apart one day. Without Fiend to harvest their devices became unstable, and remaining bishops who wore their flesh had the people turn against them to fuel a few extra days. The church could not maintain its hold without the assets to back its coin. If diving the abyss was the last option, so be it..
