We cannot compromise the possibility of our works, current or future, from one day also featuring these themes, without conflicting with our vision as a studio. We make adult-oriented art exploring adult themes, and we expect you to be an adult as well.

The Homebrew Deviants are a multi-media creative studio of disabled queer artists making stories, worlds, and art since 2016.

The works we make are sincere and strange and empathetic, exploring trauma, comfort, and identity in all of its forms. Disability, accessibility, plurality, alterhumanity, gender and sexuality, passion and recovery - all of these things inform the art we aim to create.

Here are various worlds and projects we have worked on:

Morbit

A fantasy world of gods and ghosts, monsters and magic, animal people in and out of every mold. Morbit is a massive planet forged by the gods that rule over it, though Morbitians aren't always keen on bowing to their makers. Morbit is the Homebrew Deviants' longest running setting, host to dozens of stories in its bounds.

Morbit acts as a creative sandbox where we can play toys with worldbuilding and storytelling, with great potential to explore every genre over the sun that we'd like - Morbit is a vast world with many different people and places, one that can even extend its hands into other realities. It is also a deeply political setting willing to take on heavy topics with a grounded, personal angle.

Miniature rendition of a basic type TCP. Tiny Cat People, a diminutive species of cat-like people based on common nouns. Their ubiquity throughout Morbit shines a spotlight on a world much smaller than our own, but one just as vast as Morbit itself.

The Morbit Wiki, a hub for information on the worldbuilding, species, locations, and characters of Morbit. It also hosts the TCPDex, a constantly-developing guide on Tiny Cat People.

Plaything

Name is placeholder, as Plaything is the current "main" project within this setting. A world we've been working on since 2021.

Characters based on various kinds of anthropomorphized toys make sense of their adult lives in a world of confusing rituals, haunted by another time and place they cannot remember. These toys are theorized to spend their entire childhood at "the store", a location just out-of-sight that leaves no toy unscathed on the way out. There is no comfort in the past for them here.

This setting aims to explore themes related to toys and play outside of the context of childhood or childlike aestheticization. Some ideas we like to explore here are comfort and safety as universal needs, the design and marketing of toys and the social ideas they reinforce.

Because this setting entirely focuses on adult characters who have to Play Pretend To Survive, things like kink / BDSM often come up as well.

Understuffed, a BDSM-themed romance short story featuring two marketable plushies. A side-story to Plaything, though it can be enjoyed without prior knowledge of the setting. Bean buddies Devo and Tim spend an eventful night together.

Scrimblo World

A Second Life store collective made in affiliation with friends of the Homebrew Deviants. Scrimblo World designs avatars and avatar mods for those with toonier tastes than what can be typically found on the market. We offer dozens of products that are cheap, modular, modifiable, and cartoony, excellent for those who need avatars on a tight budget.

We sometimes show up at the quarterly human-alternative and furry shopping event Abnormality, which is a great place to find our new releases!

In addition to these projects, the Homebrew Deviants community has offered a space for sharing and creating things together, including works that would otherwise not be given a space at the table.

Over the years, we have hosted a variety of events and group activities for members of our community, including roleplay events, art and hobby sharing, and casual gaming servers. We greatly value sharing resources and interests and being allowed to express oneself. If all of this sounds interesting to you, our community is open to anyone 18+, and we happily invite you to join us!
