Gragin's Text Adventure - ಠ_ಠ - 04-24-2019
Walking through the empty woods, you spy an old, broken down house in a clearing ahead of you.
It's a modest, white, two-story thing that seems to have been abandoned for some time. You can see the entire structure tilting slightly to the left, as if a nasty storm was on the verge of blowing it over.
You will need a place to sleep tonight, and for safety's sake you'd rather not do so under the stars.
Considering the state of the place, you're going to have to figure out how to get inside first.

You have arrived at the front yard of the house. A brown and withered lawn holds many secrets. There is nothing but darkness and dense foliage behind you. The Moon hangs silently over your head as you observe the area. The house, to the North, is barricaded from entry. Obvious exits are West, to the garden, and a path to the Northeast around the house.

It's one of those old metal ones nobody uses anymore. There is a faded picture of Action Squid shooting a planet to smithereens on the lid. You can hear something rattling around inside when you shake it.

It's mainly a string with colored beads threaded through it. A tag with the words "WESTCHESTER CHRISTIAN BIBLE STUDY" hangs off the front. You found this in your backpack.

The lawn in front of the house is dry and dessicated. You can hear the leaves crunching beneath your feet, even if the darkness of your surroundings makes it hard to discern exactly what's there. You think you see shapes moving through the overgrown grass, although you can't be sure if that is something tangible or just the wind.

GARDEN
A bit less dessicated than the front lawn, the garden is full of overgrown plants as tall as you. A sickly-sweet chemical smell, kind of like old antifreeze, permeates between various clusters of shrubs and wilted flowers. Despite the abundance of plant life, the garden is dead quiet, lacking any kind of movement or noise from the wind or chittering insects. You can just make out what you think is an old well in the center of the garden. The only way you can see out of here is to the East, from where you came.

The old well in the center of the garden appears at first glance to be a loose pile of stones in the shape of a circle, considering all of the grass growing in between the stones and their misshapen roundness. You can see a collapsed wooden beam on one side where presumably some kind of pulley mechanism one hung. The top of the well is currently covered by some wooden planks.

You arrive in what appears to be a crumbling foyer, with stone walls and floor. Whatever furniture was once here has crumbled into a rotting mess. Despite no apparent light source, you can clearly see two pathways out of here. There is a door to the West, and a doorway to the East.

You arrive in what appears to be a hallway connecting two different rooms. You can faintly make out different stone carvings of various animals lining the walls. Ahead of you is a large stone pedestal, on which sits a carving of a deer's head. Below the deer's head is an inscription. The exit North has collapsed and is nothing but rubble. You can see an exit West into a foyer.

It appears to be a very worn stone carving of a deer's head. The right antlers have broken off. Its mouth is just slightly open, and you can see a piece of cloth hanging from it.

There was a man sitting across from your bed. You weren't used to that. You weren't used to anyone looking at you, really. You could hear him talking but you couldn't make out the words. Your thoughts, your perception, they were moving so slowly. You could feel time passing but couldn't react to it. It was as if you were sitting in the back of your own mind, watching through a fogged window into the world outside.
The man moved his fingers in front of your face. Yes. Okay. They were fingers. He was trying to judge something. You could tell. What did he want you to do?
Slowly, so slowly it was like crawling out of tar, you began to respond to his gestures. You looked in the directions he pointed. He asked you a question, you think it was a question, you couldn't understand but your mouth and your throat pushed the words out regardless, before your mind could really anticipate them.
Focus. Focus. You willed yourself to focus, to push through this noxious haze your mind was buried in. The world got brighter, and then more defined. Your head began to hurt, a dull, throbbing ache that was nevertheless all-encompassing, robbing your focus for a while until you gathered the will to push past it.
Your mind came back together in bits and pieces until there was enough of it there to begin to make sense of what was going on. What was happening.
You realized you could understand what the man was saying, now.
"...need you with me right now, can you hear me?"
His voice was unexpectedly more sharp than the world around him, and cut through the fog like a knife. You finally retained enough of yourself to be able to respond, you thought, so you cleared your throat and asked, with a voice hoarse from disuse:
"What?"
