RE: [PCA] UNIVERSAL CONSTANTS - skinstealer - 12-30-2025

Maes sets herself back on the toilet, uncoiling her tail and opening her legs for the proxy.

...there's a small tendril there, and a non-insignificant amount of slime dripping off of it.

MAES: I-
MAES: The cuddling must have worked me up.

There's no words needed, the proxy leaning in close and giving her a test lick.

Maes tries not to jump, still completely unused to this.

MAES: W-warn me b-before you-

Kettle immediately pauses.

Maes has to take a moment to gather herself before giving the proxy a thumbs up.

MAES: Y-you're good, you can keep...keep going.

Kettle chirps excitedly, getting to work and luring the tendril out further with her mouth.

MAES: Mmngh-

Maes hesitates for a moment before reaching down to grip the back of Kettle's head, allowing her enough length to assure it's not all that small on the inside.

MAES: H...hhgh- you're very w-warm-

[image description: Maes sitting on the toilet, slit grin and drool on her lip as she recieves oral stimulation from Kettle. One hand is on knee while the other pushes Kettle's head down, little cartoon hearts resembling Judgment's family crest above the proxy's head. Maes wears nothing but a sports bra, part of her face covered by a mess of hair.]

A muffled noise from the proxy, Kettle too busy trying to swallow more up to bother communicating anything intelligible.

Maes dares giving a tiny thrust, enough to fill Kettle's mouth with slime and threatening to push deeper.

MAES: I've never- e-ever done this before you-

This is all the encouragement the proxy needs, Kettle moving along as best she could with the massive claws pressed against the back of her head.

MAES: We met...just last night-
MAES: A-and you're already-
MAES: Doing this for me-!

Maes can't help but choke on her own words, clearly having gotten herself close beforehand even with the difficulty.

MAES: Ffuck, that's-

Kettle lets out a mischevious snicker before managing to coil her tongue around the tendril in her mouth, squeezing it tight before taking it greedily into her throat.

MAES: K-kettle, I-

A hard thrust now, the sound of Kettle nearly choking on it audible even across the apartment.

Charon fumbles, spilling a little bit of milk while pouring it- a desperate attempt to make breakfast as he tries to avoid the sensory bleed.

And another, Maes a lot less shy now.

Charon's breath catches, having to clench his jaws to keep from making his own noise.

Don't say a thing, let them have fun-

He closes his eyes and thinks calming, breakfast-like thoughts as the sound and sensation of what can only be his proxy excitedly deepthroating his boss threaten to distract him from finishing his goddamn scrambled eggs.

Maes' claws dig into the back of Kettle's head, sending slime gushing down her throat and not letting go.

MAES: N-not- not allowed to spill any, u-understand?
MAES: C-can't waste any time mopping up...

Kettle stayed locked in place, seemingly unbothered by the roughness involved...a benefit of being artificial, and determined at that.

Maes' hips tremble as she finishes, really letting the proxy have every last drop before flopping backwards, releasing her grip.

Kettle lets go as well, helping guide the tendril back inside her partner- a little bit of courtesy punctuated with a gentle pat.

Both of them winded, Kettle slumps against her boss's leg- really making it apparent just how much Maes had worked her over. Far more full than she would have expected, the proxy smiles as the last remainders of slime ooze between her jagged teeth.

MAES: ...good...you did very good, Kettle...

The cat lazily rubs behind one of the proxy's ears, making a soft, soothing hum.

MAES: V...very efficient.

RE: [PCA] UNIVERSAL CONSTANTS - skinstealer - 01-10-2026

Kettle nuzzles her hand, rumbling contentedly.

MAES: ...j...just a minute, and then we have to get ready...

But of course.

The proxy's the calmest she's heard yet.

MAES: ...you really like that, don't you?

A sound of confirmation.

MAES: And...you'd do that for me again?
MAES: If I needed it?

Mm...

A little nod against her leg.

MAES: ...thank you.
MAES: I- I can't get myself off, and-
MAES: ...it's...not as if it's common otherwise...

Kettle gives her knee a pat, the karacel returning it with another ear rub.

MAES: G...good job.

She lets out one last long sigh.

MAES: I-is Judgment doing well?

A loud squeak.

Horny dream.

MAES: ...oh.
MAES: Is he feeling all of-?

Yes.

MAES: ...was it nice for him...?

Very.

MAES: ...I should get him out of bed then, we have to get ready-

She takes a few wobbly steps, pulling up Kettle for support and allowing the proxy to help her get her underwear back on.

As soon as Maes is dressed, Kettle clambers up into her arms, desperate to be hugged and surprisingly light.

MAES: ...You really are the affectionate one.

The proxy gives her a silly, harmless "bite" on the arm.

MAES: Naughty.

Maes smiles, poking Kettle on the nose as she takes both of them out.

MAES: Judgment, we have to start getting moving-
CHARON: Boss.
CHARON: Kettle.
MAES: ...you're not in bed.
MAES: Are you...making breakfast right now?
CHARON: Yes.
MAES: I...thought-

Maes grows flushed, shaking her head and coughing nervously.

MAES: Well, th.
MAES: Thank you.
MAES: For the help.
CHARON: Mm... Kettle seems pretty happy about getting the opportunity.
MAES: I... appreciated it.

She gives the proxy a little nuzzle.

MAES: ...and the breakfast.
MAES: What are you making?
CHARON: Simple stuff, eggs and steak with a little hashbrown on the side.
MAES: Eggs...interesting.

She takes a seat-

-allowing Kettle to remain on her lap.

The proxy positions carefully, close but not in the way of the table.

[Image Description: Charon staring off with a conflicted neutral expression as Kettle wrapped up around Maes and sitting on her lap teases him. THe proxy has her tongue poking out at him. On the table is a large lump of scrambled eggs that could feed a family.]

Maes can't help but rub her shoulder, almost stimming on it.

MAES: What should I expect with eggs?
CHARON: That could vary a good bit.
CHARON: I wanted to make the first try at these easy so fully cooked, fluffy, without any goopiness.

Charon wraps up and settles in himself.

CHARON: You can tell me if it's too much.
MAES: ...let's see how we go.

RE: [PCA] UNIVERSAL CONSTANTS - skinstealer - 01-16-2026

[image description: Maes with a standardized lab spork in her mouth and a slight pleased looking expression, Kettle still coiled around her left side.]

Maes noticeably gives Kettle a squeeze before turning to her food.

MAES: ...forks?
MAES: Or-
CHARON: Spork, can use your hands if you'd like but I'd recommend a spork.
MAES: ...sporks sound good from what I've heard of eggs.

She picks up her silverware and takes a bite-

-unsure what to make of the texture at first.

MAES: ....weird.
CHARON: I prepped a couple of boiled ones as well if you'd prefer something smoother...
MAES: No, just...

Another bite.

MAES: ...strange texture.
MAES: Very- you called them fluffy.
CHARON: Mm..
MAES: It's...hm.
MAES: More close to the pasta than meat, but...eggs are a protein.
MAES: Interesting.
CHARON: Mm, a incredibly staple one for many people.
CHARON: Nutritionally rich and affordable.
MAES: ...you use them to supplement things, right?
CHARON: Some people will just eat a couple of these actually... they're versatile.

He places down a boiled egg carefully on her plate.

MAES: ...

She pokes it first with a fork, and then her claws.

MAES: Peeled...that's extra work.
CHARON: Mm.. really does get you a sense of the density of these things though.
MAES: Very...

She jumps as her claw pierced it, only to get back to poking with intensified curiosity.

MAES: Fascinating.
MAES: I've handled eggs for medical reasons, but this is entirely different.
CHARON: I'm honestly surprised you've never interacted with these at all... for clarification these are procured from a widely farmed livestock.
MAES: ...Cresthens, right?
MAES: I read that they're the most common in the area-
MAES: ...I-
MAES: Haven't really seen a lot of animals.
CHARON: Mhm, very docile creatures as long as you watch the talons.
MAES: ...I'd...probably get scared.

She spears the egg on one claw, giving it a little squeeze before popping it into her mouth all at once, clearly looking for ways to not elaborate.

CHARON: I'm not too good with animals myself.
MAES: ...you aren't?
CHARON: They can sense anomalies of my nature, have to ease them more than usual.
MAES: ...oh.
MAES: I've always wondered the same.
MAES: It's-
MAES: ...There's a. Park of sorts, in the upper lab.
MAES: Somewhere where patients can rest, with their families.
MAES: It emulates more Hearthian environments, less harsh than the surrounding desert.
MAES: ......they've been considering getting some tame animals for it for some time, a proper biodome setup.

She shakes her head.

MAES: I'm rambling.
MAES: The boiled egg was much better for my palate.
CHARON: I could work those in more in the future.
MAES: ....I like how it feels to shred them.
CHARON: Satisfying, right?

He slides another one onto her plate.

MAES: Very.

She very pointedly lets him see the chomp this time, the egg eviscerated into shreds within a second.

The dog nearly makes a noise, only stopped by Kettle beating him to the punch.

CHARON: Mm, very impressive.
MAES: Is something the matter, Kettle?
CHARON: She's excited to see you enjoy the meal-

A snakey hiss from the ghost.

CHARON: I'm not speaking for you, merely-

And another.

CHARON: You're not even supposed to be able to make that noise...
MAES: Judgment, it's only fair to give her a direct translation.
CHARON: ....Damn, Gina.

The proxy gives a little clap at that.

MAES: ...I didn't forsee having to ask for a slang definition.
MAES: More detail?
CHARON: Expression of surprise, positive connotation typically.
CHARON: A friend from overseas taught her it, hardly local.

A soft smile.

MAES: Good, then.
MAES: Don't mince her words, Judgment, if you're translating.
MAES: We'll get you set up, Kettle- but I do want to hear you.

A gentle little nuzzle from the proxy.

CHARON: I'm sure she'll be happy to have that.
CHARON: She'll likely be sharing with Broth I think.
MAES: Easy enough...
MAES: I'm sure Synna can help you get set up.

She turns back to the rest of her meal, trying the hash next.

MAES: ...I like these.
MAES: Potatoes?
CHARON: Mmhmm.
CHARON: I've got a soft spot for them, cheap and easy to work into meals.
MAES: We should try them as filler more, I think....

She digs in properly now, all of the sampling done with. Watching her enjoy the food with more vigor and less hesitation is quite a sight, the karacel not bothering to look as graceful or poised.

CHARON: I'm glad to see you enjoying it all honestly...
CHARON: Let me know what you'd like me to keep on the menu when you're done.
MAES: Mmm.

She takes a few moments to finish, clearly still savoring by her ravenous standards.

MAES: ...the scrambled eggs, I'm less sure on, but I did really enjoy the hashbrowns and boiled eggs.
CHARON: I could work those in easily.
MAES: ...it's nice.
MAES: Breakfast.
MAES: I don't usually afford this for myself.
CHARON: Mm... well I think I enjoy cooking for you a good bit.
MAES: Do you now?
CHARON: Enough to keep you well fed.
MAES: That's quite a bit of effort.
CHARON: It's worth attempting.
MAES: ..and what if it tires you?

Her voice grows...somber.

CHARON: Then I can rest until I'm up to try again.
MAES: ...I'll tend to you as well, then.
MAES: We're...likely going to need it after today.

A tinge of blush.

MAES: Something to look forward to, I suppose.
MAES: ...Though, if you're staying over again-
MAES: Perhaps a change of clothes.
CHARON: I have plenty to change into..
MAES: ...ah, right.
MAES: The...castle.
MAES: My apologies.
CHARON: ...You remember that then.

She continues on, not seeming to realize her slip...or Charon's flustering.

MAES: Yes, and I'm still waiting on that itemized list of your armory's contents.
CHARON: That may take some time...
MAES: Perhaps I should consider incentives...
CHARON: Does that require every item?
MAES: I should consider large incentives...
CHARON: Continue.
MAES: If you manage to fetch me a list of- yes, everything in the armory, and any other areas of note-
MAES: I will reward you and the Rooks handsomely.
CHARON: Gonna be a group effort on our end, hope you don't mind it happening in chunks.
MAES: Hmm.
MAES: Would you accept piecemeal rewards?
CHARON: Of course.
MAES: Then we can make that work.
MAES: ...

Her brow furrows, setting her silverware down.

MAES: We've been fairly leisurely.
MAES: We need to get cleaned up and to the lower levels-
CHARON: Kettle?

A noise of acknowledgement.

CHARON: She'll help us play catchup today.
MAES: ...very well.
MAES: Have you ever given someone a dust bath?
CHARON: A couple of times actually, show me the setup.

Synna squints at the pair in front of her, Maes doing her best to look casual.

SYNNA: ....So you two walk to work together now?

RE: [PCA] UNIVERSAL CONSTANTS - skinstealer - 01-22-2026

[image description: maes and charon standing tensely in front of synna, hands on her hips and clearly judging them for their overnight crimes. synna is dressed in a pitch black skintight suit, with maes wearing her hazmat getup sans helmet.]

CHARON: Good to talk shop ahead, no?

eyes dart to Maes-

-and then back to him.

SYNNA: Maes doesn't make friends.
MAES: Hey.
SYNNA: Look, it's not bad, I'm just- confused.
SYNNA: I'm confused.
CHARON: Maybe I'm just special.
SYNNA: Uh huh.
SYNNA: I mean-
SYNNA: I've heard you're doing good work.
MAES: You would see it for yourself if you came down more-
SYNNA: Maes, you know I-
SYNNA: Ugh.
SYNNA: Look.
SYNNA: I'm not trying to give you shit.
CHARON: I mean I've been meaning to work with you anyway.
CHARON: Your portfolio impresses me and I've got a few projects I'd like thoughts on.

She relaxes, letting out an amused huff.

SYNNA: You don't gotta flatter me.
SYNNA: I want to be down there and collaborate.
SYNNA: ...just been busy.
SYNNA: Nervous.
CHARON: Nervous?
SYNNA: ...

She averts eye contact, suddenly looking more anxious.

MAES: Synna.
SYNNA: ...the political debates have me freaked.
SYNNA: Nothing you don't already know intimately.
SYNNA: Has people in my field pressed-
SYNNA: -and now we have to deal with the basement.
CHARON: Mm...
CHARON: I have significant stakes in all of it myself, can address concerns and worries if people are shaken.
SYNNA: Shaken's not quite the right word.
SYNNA: More...
SYNNA: ...preparing for the worst.
MAES: ...did something happen?
SYNNA: Depends on how in the loop Judgment here is.
MAES: You can trust him.
SYNNA: ...Nothing concrete.
SYNNA: But sources say there's been more Salivist movement in anti-Revision circles.
MAES: There always is.
SYNNA: Blatant movement.
MAES: ...oh.
SYNNA: Yeah.
SYNNA: Mask off.

Maes' tail thumps against the ground nervously, Charon clearing his throat.

CHARON: Very much in the loop, part of the job.
CHARON: Get a lot of intel, dossier leaks myself on the topic.
CHARON: Guilds on continent have been very aware of the matter.
CHARON: Cousin of mine is a knight operating Plaza and Hearth as a modified dopple himself.
CHARON: Whole family has personal reasons to break the Salivists.
CHARON: Unfortunately the most larger guilds can do right now is out plants and incentivize bounty hunters.
CHARON: They've been too public as of late to not play the censorship card to reactionaries if we were to hit anything more than under the table meetings.
SYNNA: Good.
SYNNA: You're on the right page.
SYNNA: We're trying to get names of the active plants right now, but they're relying on figureheads with big personalities, big names.
SYNNA: But behind the scenes, lots of nasty talk.
SYNNA: People feeling really confident talking about "vices" and "indulgences" in company bars right now, even in this zone.
SYNNA: Maybe not out in public yet when it comes to the movement, but...
SYNNA: ...we're doing what we can.

' tail thumping grows louder, the karacel visibly on edge.

MAES: Fuck's sake Synna, we don't need this on top of-
SYNNA: The apparent fucking ghost in Intake?
SYNNA: Yeah, no, I'm aware.
CHARON: Lucky day that I'm a specialist in both of these matters, no?
SYNNA: You wrangle ghosts?
CHARON: Secondary specialization is in the occult and ultrafauna.
CHARON: Grew up close to a coven family.
CHARON: Witches as some would call them.
SYNNA: Wild.
SYNNA: And...very useful.
SYNNA: How are you on the compassion end of things, though?
SYNNA: We're not killing this thing.
MAES: ....

Her ears flatten.

SYNNA: We're not.
SYNNA: You know that as well as I do.
MAES: ......I know.
MAES: But we can't risk it if they attack the compound.
SYNNA: We don't abandon our own.
MAES: We don't even know if-
CHARON: It'll be fine.
CHARON: Worst case scenario, I can give it a time out in my back pocket.
SYNNA: ...eh?

He made a square gesture with his hands, static noise and lines visible for just a brief moment.

CHARON: Bit of a trick of mine you'll see as needed.
CHARON: I'm plenty supernatural myself.
SYNNA: ...Huh.
SYNNA: I'll take your word for it.
SYNNA: Hashbrown gave me your gear.
MAES: No shock sticks-
SYNNA: Fuck's sake, no.
SYNNA: If we're dealing with a ghost made up of residents, that'd kill us all.
SYNNA: You've got the containment domes.
CHARON: Mm..
CHARON: I'm armed to the teeth myself.
CHARON: It'll work out.

The dog's soft and flowy attire isn't exactly the most convincing.

SYNNA: ...okay.

squeezes her eyes shut and nods.

SYNNA: I hope so.
SYNNA: I won't be going down to Intake with you, but I'll be running comms.
SYNNA: Had to reschedule a bunch of shit for this, but JB wants to help hold down the fort in the compound itself-
SYNNA: ...and I have more experience than he does in the actual old lab.
CHARON: We'll keep everyone safe..

The dog paused for a moment.

CHARON: Boss?
CHARON: Should I explain the proxy system now or hold it til we're down there?
SYNNA: The-
SYNNA: ....is that the fucking skeleton thing?
MAES: There's only one skeleton, and besides that, they're proxies-
SYNNA: I know what a proxy is, I've just never heard of somebody having a skeleton one and now that's everything people are talking about.
MAES: That was yesterday-!
CHARON: So it's spread then..
SYNNA: All people have to do down there is talk.
CHARON: ...Then yes, there is a skeleton among others.
SYNNA: Cool.
CHARON: They're very polite, you'll get along well.
SYNNA: Not too polite I hope.
SYNNA: I can't deal with people with sticks up their asses.
MAES: Synna.
CHARON: You'll see.
SYNNA: Cryptic.
SYNNA: Better not be as cryptic when we're on comms.
SYNNA: ...Finish your gearing up and meet me down there.

RE: [PCA] UNIVERSAL CONSTANTS - skinstealer - 02-02-2026

The sense of dread in the main hall is palpable, Rosetta, Jester and Ruby geared up in horror-proof suits matching Maes' own-

-Smith shooing away curious residents, and JB going over a lockdown checklist.

JB: Here's how we're going to do it.

The construct taps his clipboard.

JB: Your team of four- Rose, Jester,  Maes, Judgment- is going down there to investigate.
JB: You'll have two sub-teams.
JB: Rose and Judgment, you're the firepower, but Rose needs a guide and has less experience than Maes with her aids.
JB: Equal potential for tight quarters and large open spaces with no landmarks are going to be tricky for her on her own, even if she can fight like crazy.
JB: Maes tells me you do good work with guiding her, and volunteered you for this.
JB: Take it as an order from up top.
CHARON: Mm, quite a bit to toss me right before the job but I can make do.
I'll have accommodations ready.
JB: We didn't exactly have time.

JB sighs.

JB: Frankly it's a pretty slapdash plan, but we can't risk any casualties.
JB: Treat it like a horror breach.
CHARON: I'd like permissions in that case to use any means necessary to avoid injuries.
JB: Granted.
JB: We want to take this thing in alive if possible-
JB: ...as alive as it is, anyhow-
JB: -but the priority is keeping residents safe.
CHARON: Nothing but my all in that regard.
JB: Good.
JB: Maes, you and Jester are team two.
JB: You'll be leading the group, and running detection.
JB: Simply put, Maes knows the most about the Devil's Advocacy program out of this team, along with Synna on comms.
JB: Her being up front with Jester means we have people able to identify this thing both, uh, however Jester does it, and Maes' know-how.
JB: If it's a ghost, that...should be handy.
JB: According to Ruby, anyway.
CHARON: Scout and engage, ideally de-escalate and rescue.
CHARON: No casualties is the goal.

JB nods.

JB: The cleaner you can do this, the better.

Synna clears her throat.

SYNNA: My job means I have to know whatever magic shit is needed for the job, and I have some proxy questions before we go in.
SYNNA: How's your range?
CHARON: Within sightlines.
CHARON: Anything past that is dependent on the proxy.
SYNNA: No dice on sending one with the lead team if you get separated, then.
SYNNA: How about visibility?
SYNNA: Folks definitely seemed to see your bunch from what I've heard, how are you handling that?
CHARON: Case by case, there's a few methods to allow those that can't engage to do so.
CHARON: Observe....

The dog reaches into his cloak and pulls out some dust, a spark within his palm, burning through it like a sweet flowery incense. Taking a whiff gave almost a heightened sense of reality to those nearby.

Rosetta's tail immediately starts coughing, Maes equally confused.

ROSETTA: Hgh- what-
JESTER: Some kind of dust!

Jester's eyes widen.

JESTER: This is how you make people see them!
SYNNA: Memorium powder.

Synna taps her elbow, thinking.

SYNNA: ...never worked with it.
SYNNA: It safe?
CHARON: Mm, should be enough to get people going here.
CHARON: It's also particularly useful for finding ghosts too...

He reaches into his pocket, a little mechanical bird in his palm.

CHARON: This thing can travel ahead to find tracks so to speak.
SYNNA: Full of gadgets, huh?
SYNNA: Respect.
CHARON: Have to do something with my free time...
SYNNA: Useful now too, I hope.
SYNNA: Hows it work?
CHARON: It detects recent activity and dispenses raw powder in the direction of the biggest source.
CHARON: Like a little bloodhound so to speak.
SYNNA: Worth a shot.
SYNNA: Anybody have questions?
CHARON: None that come to mind from me.

Quiet as people thought, before Jester pipes up.

JESTER: It...sounds scared.
JESTER: Scared and angry, when I hear it.
JESTER: I never really- I wanted to help it-
JESTER: -but I was always scared to-
JESTER: ....but I'd, um-

He hesitates.

ROSETTA: Out with it.
JESTER: ...I'd leave it cookies, from the lunchroom.
JESTER: And they'd always be gone when I'd come back.
SYNNA: ....
MAES: ...........
ROSETTA: ......................
CHARON: The dead do appreciate a offering...

He thumps his tail in conviction.

JESTER: I knew it.

Maes moves to massages her temple, made ineffective by the suit helmet.

MAES: Jester, I can't believe I'm saying this- but you can't be feeding ghosts.
JESTER: But now we have a bait method!
ROSETTA: You didn't even believe in ghosts until last week.
MAES: My opinion on the afterlife isn't relevant.
MAES: What if it was a terror?
MAES: Or god knows what else?
JESTER: I figured they would be more interested in me than chocolate chip if that were true...and they never came after me!
CHARON: He has a point.
MAES: Well.
MAES: Great.
MAES: Can someone get some-

[image description: Jester in a full body hazard suit similar to Maes, albeit proportioned toward his larger body. His helmet is on, little glance of his eye facing the viewer visible through the mask. He holds a ziplock bag full of cookies.]

Jester's already pulling out a plastic zip bag, Maes scrunching her eyes shut at the sound.

MAES: ...okay.
MAES: We now have bait.
CHARON: You're doing fine.
MAES: ...I'll feel like it once we catch it.
CHARON: It won't be a problem for us I imagine.
MAES: ...mm.
SYNNA: Then we should get to it.
SYNNA: It's a walk, but you should be...more or less fine.
SYNNA: Maes and Jester can tell you the layout on your way over.
MAES: ...Right.
CHARON: Mm.. Rosetta?
ROSETTA: I can follow fine up until we hit Intake.
ROSETTA: ....I don't enjoy it in there.
ROSETTA: Unfamiliar.
CHARON: I'll do what I can to make it easier on you.

Rosetta says nothing.

RE: [PCA] UNIVERSAL CONSTANTS - skinstealer - 02-10-2026

[image description: Maes in full suit and helmet trails behind Charon's animatronic bird as it searches through for paranormal activity.]

Charon deploys the bird before the group gets moving, its mechanical flutters quick as it flaps ahead of everyone.

The hallways through the Stasis section are the same as ever, the mood feeling far more dour than the cleanup efforts in the cells. Maes can't help but have a nasty grimace.

The dog's loud steps and clattering tail kept things from getting too quiet, Charon more than raring to go.

MAES: ...Intake's layout.

Maes swallows.

MAES: ...Devil's Advocacy had a system for candidates that- it was-
ROSETTA: Culling the rejects.

Rosetta's voice is dull, hollow.

MAES: ...yes.
CHARON: Mm... how much has it been cleared out since then?
CHARON: I recall hearing mentions of machines.
MAES: Not enough.

Maes sighs.

MAES: Intake alone is the size of a warehouse, and the titan-class kill floor alone would take weeks to deconstruct and fully scour the area.
MAES: Everything is entirely powered down, but...
CHARON: Still a hazard to wander through I imagine.
CHARON: And a bad reminder.
ROSETTA: Understatement.

Rosetta's tail thumps.

JESTER: The smell of rot alone-
MAES: It...never really left.

Jester wrung his hands.

JESTER: It's definitely worn down, but...
JESTER: ...I'd hate to think the ghost lives in there, all alone...
CHARON: It won't have to for long if all goes well.
MAES: ...we can hope.
MAES: The majority of Intake is open floor, visible enough from most places, but again- we have no power.
MAES: The kit Synna gave you should have a flashlight-

He tapped it, tucked away in his cloak.

CHARON: I got it ready.
CHARON: Should I bring out the proxy now?
MAES: Mm. Best to familiarize them.
CHARON: Scoot back-

Before he could finish, the light bristle of Mar's dress filled the room.

MAR: Hello..

Maes' tone softens.

MAES: Mar.
MAES: You'll do well with this.
CHARON: Of course..
CHARON: I've been filled in on everything of course.
CHARON: We can pass details around even when not around directly. Shared memories.
MAES: Useful...
MAES: Right.
MAES: ....There are four kill floors we have to worry about, in varying sizes.
MAES: All four take up the same amount area, but are based on size class.
MAES: The small-class kill floor has more individual stations, whereas the titan-class takes up the full size with one assembly line.
MAES: Depending on wherever this thing is hiding, we'll either have to be around larger machinery, or pick through tighter quarters.

The proxy audibly shuffled.

MAR: Didn't consider the possibility of a large ghost..
JESTER: ...if it's titan class...

Jester sucked in air.

JESTER: Bad.
JESTER: Very bad.
MAES: Did it seem that big?
JESTER: Nnnnno, but- not...small-sounding.
CHARON: How big are we talking?

The dog poke around through his pockets.

MAES: Rosetta's a large class, so is Smith.
MAES: Titans are the class above that.
JESTER: ...were.
MAES: Were.
CHARON: ...I'll be able to bail us out.
CHARON: Not sure how much more than that.
ROSETTA: If it's a titan, we're fucked.

Rosetta puts it plainly.

ROSETTA: They were the first to go in the final cull, for obvious reasons.
ROSETTA: ...Not that there were all that many left.
JESTER:...the only remaining ones were old.

Jester's voice is soft.

JESTER: Old...doesn't work out for us.
CHARON: I don't believe in unwinnable situations.

RE: [PCA] UNIVERSAL CONSTANTS - skinstealer - 02-18-2026

[image description: Various decaying structures and pieces of machinery from the slaughterhouse lingering in the dark. Pipes, concrete, massive hooks and railings with the occasional loose cable make up the area ahead.]

MAES: ...we'll be close soon.
MAES: It won't have long to go.
MAES: ...any questions?
CHARON: One, but... it's something I'll save til after this.

There's a metallic chirp from the bird.

CHARON:  It's starting to deploy something, we'll see it once we catch up.

The group proceeds, the massive doors labeled INTAKE looming ahead.

JESTER: ...we're here.

Jester's voice is quiet.

JESTER: ...are we ready?

Maes unsheathes her sword, taking a moment to swap out her cane.

Rosetta puts her own cane away, strapping it to her side and allowing her tail to sweep
the area, almost in a sniffing motion.

ROSETTA: We should get this over with.
ROSETTA: Judgment, get by my side.
ROSETTA: A few feet away tops, I don't usually work with guides and I don't even know you that much.

The knight positions his hand on his flashlight, Mar taking lead as if she's' a walking shield.

MAR: We'll keep it quick as possible.
CHARON: Mm.. in and out of here.

Maes and Jester push the doors, having to use their shoulders to brace against it.

Jester's not kidding about the smell, the scent of long-since rotted corpses hitting the group all at once- Charon taking the full, unsuited brunt.

The dog coils the coat around himself, trying to protect himself from the stench.

CHARON: Flor-
MAR: Odor's too bad for them to cover up, I think...
ROSETTA: ...are you good for this, Judgment?

Rosetta sounds more irritated than concerned.

ROSETTA: If you can't take it-
JESTER: Rose, lay off.

Jester huffs.

JESTER: It's horrible and he needs a second.
CHARON: I'll be fine, just keep going.

Jester and Maes head inside, Maes notably tensing more than the other.

MAES: ...do you sense anything yet, Jester?
JESTER: ...sort of. It's- here, I think.

Charon feels...watched.

JESTER: ...but I don't know where.

The dog's fur stands up.

CHARON: It's absolutely here.

Maes tenses further.

MAES: Is...can you detect anything?

Indiscernible energy echoes through the slaughterhouse, its position and intent unknown to Charon- but Jester's grimace is visible through his suit's visor.

JESTER: Nn...

The dog remains quiet, Mar's tiled dress beginning to rattle.

MAES: Jester?
MAES: J-judgment?
JESTER: It does not like Judgment.

Jester swallows.

JESTER: It- uh-
JESTER: It can tell.
MAES: ...tell what?
JESTER: ......he's not family.
JESTER: It knows.

The dog widens his stance.

CHARON: It gets one warning.
JESTER: Don't- don't aggravate it.
JESTER: Maybe if we just...

Jester takes a step forward, trying to keep his stance even as he raises his voice.

JESTER:  We're- we're not here to hurt you.
JESTER:  He's a friend!
JESTER:  And-

Scrambling to pull out his  bag of cookies.

JESTER:  I b-brought treats!
JESTER:  The ones you like!
JESTER:  If you come and get them, we can take you home!

Empty, dread-filled silence.

CHARON:  You should all get out of the way.
JESTER: No, it's-

Jester makes a whine.

JESTER: It's okay.
JESTER: I think it-
JESTER: I think it's more scared than anything.
ROSETTA: How can you tell?
ROSETTA: It's a fucking ghost.

Rosetta hisses.

JESTER: I...just can.
CHARON: I'm not family...

The dog keeps his stance.

CHARON: But the others are, yes?
JESTER: Yes.
JESTER: It- it can tell.
MAES: Get on with explaining whatever your plan is Judgment, I'm getting Synna on the line.

Maes tapped the side of her visor.

CHARON: You've mistaken me for a invader have you?
CHARON: I'm not that exciting unfortunately, a mere servant really.

The proxy stops rattling.

Maes' tail twitches, her voice strained.

MAES: Y-yes.
MAES: He's...more of my aide.
MAES: A tool, even.
MAES: Unable to disobey me.
SYNNA: ...dude.

Synna's voice comes through, grimacing.

SYNNA: Way to tune me in at a weird time.
SYNNA: You talking to the ghost?
CHARON: I will not strike unless given command or reason to believe you'd hurt the others here.

The feeling in the air fades- but not entirely.

JESTER:...it's content to watch, now.
MAES: Are you sure?
JESTER: As much as I can be.

RE: [PCA] UNIVERSAL CONSTANTS - skinstealer - 02-25-2026

JESTER: We...could try looking for it.

Synna sighs.

SYNNA: Contact made, yes or no?
MAES: Yes.

Maes' tail tip lashes.

MAES: It doesn't like Judgment, but it seems to be allowing us in.

The knight relaxes his posture.

CHARON: Let's not overstay our welcome with this.
SYNNA: My guess is it thinks he's some kind of guard.
SYNNA: ...saying he works for you, smart.
SYNNA: Weird the way you did it, but smart.
SYNNA: Freak shit probably appeals to the way a ghost thinks.
SYNNA: Less logic, more strong emotions.
CHARON: On point observation.
CHARON: From the ghost's perspective, I'm a threat unless my position is one where I hold no power over any of you.
MAES: ...we can work with that, then.
MAES: The titan and medium class kill floors are closest.
MAES: Do we split up?
CHARON: I trust your instincts here, that's looking key right now.
ROSETTA: ...Judgment will be an easier target if we split up.
JESTER: Sheesh, Rosetta.
ROSETTA: I'm just saying, if we want to appear less threatening...
CHARON: Is that concern or a suggestion?
ROSETTA: If you want it to come closer, it needs to feel less scared.
ROSETTA: Being able to get one on a guard would definitely make me feel better if I was still stuck in here.
CHARON: In other words we're betting on it seeing me as easy to deal with.
MAES: ...she might be onto something.
MAES: It might not attack in that scenario.
ROSETTA: Exactly.
ROSETTA: Let it get close enough to see you're harmless.
CHARON: I'm more than able to protect myself if this fails too...
ROSETTA: See?
JESTER: ...it could work.
JESTER: Maybe splitting up is the move.
JESTER: We'll...have comms, right?

Jester seems a little less hesitant, now.

SYNNA: Yeah.
SYNNA: You can just keep them live.
CHARON: Mm...
CHARON: ...Good luck.
MAES: ...of course.
MAES: We have plans after.

Maes sighs.

MAES: I'm going to make good on those.

Jester can't help but make a soft noise of endearment, Synna pausing.

SYNNA: ...wait, are you two really-
MAES: We can discuss it ]later.

Maes tugs on Jester, heading to the right.

MAES: We'll take medium class.
MAES: Rosetta, you, Mar, and Judgment are more suited towards titan.
ROSETTA: I can work with that.
CHARON:  Understood.
MAR: Lead the way.

The titan floor was identifiable immediately, massive metal machine frames making up a distressingly large slaughterhouse assembly line- and a single colossal cage, long since emptied.

The ground is stained with dark smears, far too much viscera having touched them to ever really be cleaned.

The dog took point, hood pulled up and cloak pulled around himself securely.

CHARON:  If someone living is here somehow... the ghost would have to be on good terms, no?
MAES: ...you think there's someone else left?
CHARON: People can adapt to the cruelest of worlds given the means and resolve.
MAES: They would have to be able to break into Storage for that, and even then-
CHARON: Storage?
CHARON: As in supplies?
CHARON: Food?
MAES: ...no.
MAES: Storage, as in the sector.
MAES: This is Intake, where maybecats marked for culling would go to be slaughtered and broken down.
MAES: The resulting products...
CHARON:  So.. someone would have needed to avoid execution and hidden away for years.
MAES: And broken into the Storage freezers, yes.
MAES: It's the only source of...even relative nutrients.
CHARON:  Unlikely then... which means if there is more, it's not a cat.

Synna's voice crackles through.

SYNNA: What's got you stuck on this?
SYNNA: You picking up more than our target?
CHARON:  Just going over the possibilities.
CHARON:  If I prepare for the worst and it never comes, it's easier.
SYNNA: As far as we can tell, there haven't been any breaches, and our population's pretty set.
SYNNA: ...know Maes was worried about terrors down here, but there's not all that much to mutate in the first place.
JESTER: ...

Jester makes a soft noise of worry.

JESTER: Very lonely, then...
MAES: ...Lonely.
ROSETTA: Jester was likely the only companion it had period- if you could go that far.

Rosetta rumbles, halting in her tracks as her tail brushes against something.

ROSETTA: Judgment, flashlight over here.

The dog was quick to the draw, flash light out.

A mess of old bones, heaped into a pile, the flesh picked clean- layers and layers of bite marks rendering their actual source unidentifiable.

CHARON: Bonepile.
CHARON: Been sitting there.

The dog immediately makes his way over.

CHARON: Get some distance.
SYNNA: Remnants from slaughter, or...?
CHARON:  ....purposefully gathered.

Jester mumbles into comms, skeptical.

JESTER: I wouldn't touch it....
CHARON: Mm..
CHARON: Someone or something is leaving it as a marker.
CHARON: Territorial.
MAES: .....

Maes makes a displeased noise.

SYNNA: Jester, you got a good gut for this.
SYNNA: Is this a grave or a warning?
JESTER: ....
JESTER: I think we should be careful.
CHARON:  What are you feeling?
JESTER: Nngh.
JESTER: I...can't tell yet.
JESTER: Just a bad vibe.
MAES: ..Nothing here in the medium class, not from a cursory observation-!

Maes' voice hitches, suddenly cut off.

CHARON: Boss?
SYNNA: Maes, status-
MAES: I'm fine.

Her voice is a harsh whisper.

JESTER: S- it's-
JESTER: I don't know.
JESTER: Weird f-feelings-

Jester sounds like he's shivering.

JESTER: We're- nothing happened, it's-
JESTER: Gh-
JESTER: Just really cold-

A slight chill settles into Mar's spine, feeling it before Charon.

CHARON:  Cold.
CHARON:  I'm coming over to check it out.
CHARON:  Stay close Rosetta, Mar will cover the rear.
MAEES: Is that- is that normal for ghosts-

Rosetta does her best to hunch down, immediately self conscious about her massive silhouette.

CHARON:  Temperature changes?
CHARON:  Very common... unfortunately just as likely to be nothing at all-

[alt: a curvy figure stands unnaturally, its posture stiff- yet entire lifeless. it appears canine, made of patchwork materials not meant to be put together. it is clothed, just barely discernible in a flashlight's beam.]

The dog flashes a light on scarecrow-like structure wearing a stained uniform.

RE: [PCA] UNIVERSAL CONSTANTS - skinstealer - 03-07-2026

MAES: What?
MAES: What is it?
CHARON: Another marker, we're absolutely intruders in the eyes of this being.
JESTER: But- it doesn't- seem hostile-!
MAES: Jester, be careful.

Synna groans.

SYNNA: What's the marker?
CHARON:  Humanoid model, made of debris.
CHARON:  Wearing a uniform of sorts... a coat.
ROSETTA: ....coat?

Rosetta hisses, immediately on edge.

ROSETTA: What kind?
CHARON:  Not a scientist.

Rosetta's rumbles deepen, Maes whispering into her comms.

MAES: How padded is it?

He examines it closer, squinting as he tries to get a good look in the dark.

CHARON:  Similar style to the ones rangers on the surface use to avoid bites from local animals.
CHARON:  Could save you from most forms of biting and clawing, at least for a while.... shock stick in pocket.
MAES: ...not a Storage coat.
SYNNA: Or lab, from the sound of it.
SYNNA: Sounds...local.
SYNNA: Outside local.
MAES: But there's no way that anyone could bring that in, that's contraband.
MAES: Anya didn't let any outside material get in.
CHARON:  Shock stick is a message, though.

Synna cusses under her breath.

SYNNA: The five of you should regroup and keep moving.
SYNNA: Look for more markers.
CHARON:  Mm... we'll see if there's a trail, scouting bird hasn't returned..
JESTER: ...bad sign.
SYNNA: Jester, can you see Judgment's light?
JESTER: ...y-yes.
JESTER: Vaguely-

He does a sharp intake of breath.

JESTER: Bit better than he can, probably....
CHARON:  What's out there?
JESTER: I see the figure he mentioned.
JESTER: ...more structures in between us and them, c-can't make em out-
SYNNA: Tread carefully.
CHARON: If I could determine your location I could locate them...

The dog turns, spotting an off-looking shine in the dark.

[alt: a pair of scarily bright cat eyes in the dark on one side and the other, charon's signature no-entry pupils.]

Two mirror-like eyes stare right back at him, jumping back.

CHARON:  Jesus christ... that you?
JESTER: You scared me!
CHARON:  ...How?
JESTER: You've got spooky eyes!!!
CHARON:  Have you looked at yourself?
JESTER: My eyes are normal!
CHARON: They glow.
JESTER: That's normal!
JESTER: If Maes and Rosetta had eyes, they'd glow too!
SYNNA: Sheesh, have you really not been around cats, Judgment?
CHARON:  I've been around many cats and at least two of them were myself so...
MAES: ...you're a cat?
SYNNA: Flirt later, Maes.
SYNNA: Regroup and go from there- Jester, you and Charon should get a sense of the area.
SYNNA: The space between medium and titan floors is supposed to be completely open, but...sounds like you'll have some shit in the way.
JESTER: ...got it.
JESTER: I'll lead Maes over.
CHARON:  Meet me in the middle, we'll check those structures.

RE: [PCA] UNIVERSAL CONSTANTS - skinstealer - 03-10-2026

Jester wasn't wrong.

Strange smears and clusters of bone litter the area, heaps in varying shapes and sizes-

-but not the only kind of marker.

More twisted humanoid figures, all carrying shock sticks...in different poses, all wearing different uniforms from the surface.

CHARON:  ...What would happen if I touch these?
JESTER: ...I...don't know.
JESTER: We're still being watched.
CHARON:  I'm weighing the risk attached.
MAES: ....If you do, warn us first.

Maes exhales.

MAES: I'll let you vote.
SYNNA: I vote we do it.
ROSETTA: ....egh.
SYNNA: Better to be aware of when we're pissing it off.
JESTER: I don't know if it'd like that, but...maybe be gentle?
SYNNA: Seems near-unanimous.
SYNNA: Sorry Rose.
CHARON:  Mm.... Marking myself as a target, Mar?
MAR: On watch...

The dog approached a mass and started going through it.

Immediate rumbling in the chamber, its position unknown-

JESTER: B-back up for a sec-

The dog pulled away.

CHARON: Show your face.

The vibrations did not stop, the sound beginning to move-

and then ceasing again.

JESTER: ...it's closer.
JESTER: I-
JESTER: ....I have a weird hunch- touch the figure.

He pressed his hands to it.

The noise slowed, calming.

JESTER: ...mm.
JESTER: O...okay.
JESTER: This is going to sound- a little weird.
CHARON:  Lay it on me.
JESTER: Hit it.
MAES: Jester, are you fucking insane?

There was a clang, the dog backhanding it.

The noise stopped-

-only to be replaced with a strange, multi-layered-

[alt: Mar looms over a flesh scarecrow shaped like a ruffneck with a intimidating aura, from offscreen Charon's cloak sleeved arm extends and jabs it so hard little cartoon stars fly off like spit and blood spraying in a comedic way.]

JESTER: ...it's laughing.
CHARON:  You think it's funny?

The dog mockingly postured toward the figure, chest out and on his toes for added height.

CHARON:  You're looking at the man who busted Big Cigar Benny.
CHARON:  You wanna laugh, buddy?

More cackles, in different volumes and cadences, as if many voices got scrambled together.

MAES: But-
MAES: Why would...
CHARON:  It's fine, I'm hardly a solo act.
CHARON:  Mar?
MAR: I'd like to threaten some kneecaps I think.

A shuffling in the dark, the cold feeling intensifying.

JESTER: I-I think it's approaching-
CHARON:  There we go-

The knight suddenly cuts off, eyes and halo bright enough to make him out. The proxy rattles along, both gone quiet.

RE: [PCA] UNIVERSAL CONSTANTS - skinstealer - 03-17-2026

JESTER: Wh-
SYNNA: What's going on over there?
MAES: Jester-
JESTER: J-judgment just lit up, something's wrong-

The floor wet and warm, blistering winds indoors heading toward Maes' direction.

The proxy starts to spasm mechanically.

The karacel reels back, letting out a snarl as she readies her sword-

JESTER: MAES, THAT'S-

[Image Description: A hyper-stylized silhouette of Charon leaping with sword in hand at the mysterious creature, the background adorned with stars on a reddish background.]

Immediately a loud clash, the impact sparking light just enough to see just a glimpse of the action.

[Image Description: Charon makes a attempt to use his sword to fend off the creature, a living embodiment of space and void contrasting with the similarly colored star pattern of his cape. The point where the sword blocks the beast has a cutoff from the borders of the comic itself, magic of the void manifested in breaking and rearranging the medium of illustration and comics themselves to be used as a tool by the canine knight]

A large writhing mass of loose humanoid shapes poorly clinging to make a larger figure.

As Charon is thrown back, his proxy tags in- guarding against the attacker's weight what isn't quite Mar, hissing hymns- its presence too angry and threatening to be her.

The dog shifts to the opposite side to protect the others, audibly growling- light yet animalistic, with a electronic cackle.

MAES: WH-
JESTER: IT'S NOT THE GHOST-!
MAES: WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU MEAN IT'S NOT THE-

Ice, ice cold feeling floods the room, enough to make Rosetta shudder and lose her grip, convulsing and covering her ears from some unheard sound.

The figure immediately thrashes, the new proxy diving in to grab and slam it down toward the opposite direction.

The noise, the shaking from both fighting- unearthly, unknowable-

JESTER: It's- it's okay, it's-!

The mass looks to Maes.

And lunges.

It does not reach its target.

A colossal thud, enough to shake the room, echoes as a massive wall of flesh wedges itself between Jester, Maes, and the fight, shielding the two of them-

[Image Description: A sequence of events depicted in 3 panels, frames collapsing to represent the blur of the moment. In the first panel Maes, wearing the hazard suit, is being stalked by a mysterious creature, tendrils creeping into frame past the usual comic borders. Second panel is a cut depicting the creature directly above and about to lunge at Maes, a mysterious figure rushing in to interrupt the attempt to bite off her head. Third panel, largest of all, depicts Maes reacting to the figure, a very large feline creature with multiple heads layered around each other, taking the impact of the piecing monster. There is a unspoken sense of familiarity between the two. ]

-Eight glowing lights materializing on its form, different shapes, colors and sizes-

...eyes.

Just like Jester's.

Jester acts fast, snatching up Maes and leaping back as her breath gets labored.

It feels like the moment lasts forever, everyone but Charon and his proxy shielded by the twisted shield of karacel parts.

Pounding, sounds of metal tearing into bone and flesh, proxy screaming and dog howling.

Jester whimpers and clutches at Maes, squeezing his eyes shut as the rawest and most basic of urges rocking the entire floor.

Maes is frozen.

Rose breathes heavily, her hands shaking as her tail writhes from the noise.

An impossibly high pitched noise breaks through.

And then silence, a light so bright it could have been a blinding sun blasting from the other side.

Jester looks up, squinting- the shadows coming off forms all he can see.

[Image Description: A injured Charon with cracked lens and lip dripping with blood looking back at the party as he seals them off from the fight with the creature. In front of him a large humanoid figure with flowing materials growing out of her is holding a large banner on a pole. She faces off against the beast, a ultimate form of proxy against a shadowy fiend not quite fully developed. The entire panel being slowly swallowed by tendrils and square framings, cracking under the strain of being assaulted.]

Cracked outlines in the surrounding area reveal glimpses of something not meant to be encounter, feelings of divine hate no person could fathom on their own.

A sense of body and soul barely being attached, living briefly among the stars beyond.

Jester cannot look away.

And then a return to darkness.

Proxy still rattling.

There came a sound that could only be the attacker slinking away, its pathetic, pained cries like a kid who's knee had been scraped.

And then it's all gone, proxy trembling and dog whimpering remaining as the last sounds of struggle.

MAES: ...Judgment?

Maes' voice is shaky, snapped out of her shock.

MAES: J-jester, put me-
JESTER: Maes, it's-!

He keeps his grip tight on her, even when she thrashes.

The mismatched pupils turn towards the pair, a silhouette starting to become visible.

Not a wall, but a massive figure, more similar to an insect in body plan than the traditional bipeds found in Taverne-

...a twisted creature not unlike the one that attacked Charon, but both more and less identifiable in its features. A row of karacel heads devouring each other in a chain, forming a bizarre long neck tipped with a singular head. Its body reeks of decomposed flesh, its body and limbs made up of prehensile, matted tails- black sludge leaking from between the different colors of fur.

Each face seems to shift independently, but after a moment, it turns their attention to the trio in front of it.

It shuffles over, lowering its long neck to investigate.

A distorted, stretched calico face peers at Charon and then the proxy, eyes blue and wet looking.

The proxy sobs silently, while the knight's expression is completely lost.

RE: [PCA] UNIVERSAL CONSTANTS - skinstealer - 03-28-2026

MAES: JESTER, LET ME DOWN
????: ...

The ghost lowers itself to the ground, its countless legs folding into a loaf-like shape.

It leans its cascading row of heads over to sniff him, and then bumps into the proxy with its main snout.

...It smells fucking horrible.

MAES: JUDGMENT-!

Maes' voice cracks, pounding at Jester's leg.

MAES: Jester, what the fuck is going on?!
JESTER: I, I don't- the-

His breathing hitches, still frozen.

The dog is too tired to do more than cover his face with a sleeve, blocking out the stench of rot.

[id: The ghost, now fully revealed, sits in a loaf-like position- surprisingly kitty-like and sweet looking despite being made out of corpse chunks. It appears to comfort Charon's new proxy, nuzzling up. Its frontal head has wide, shiny wet eyes, and doesn't look like it fully understands what's going on.]

The proxy practically lunges for a hug, squeezing the mass of amalgamated karacel flesh.

A cascade of mewls, the creature fluffing up and half backing away, half clinging on back.

????: ....whh-hhhy?

After a moment, the proxy backs off, visibly embarrassed and apologetic.

The dog finally breaks the silence.

CHARON: That thing was a fiend... a-angriest one I've ever seen.
SYNNA: A fiend?!

Synna's voice goes shrill.

SYNNA: How the shit did we miss that?!

Jester finally lets Maes loose, only for her to trip on a stray tail- a rotting tendril stained with long-dried gristle.

MAES: FUCK

The proxy dives in to help her up.

CHARON: N-not fully formed, still in progress.
CHARON: Possibly a historical extreme...

Maes latches onto the rook in a death grip, trying to catch her breath.

MAES: But- what the fuck do we do about that?!
MAES: What did it even do!
JESTER: It w-went-
JESTER: It went after Maes.

Jester's throat sounds dry, shaky on comms.

JESTER: The- the ghost, or w-whatever it was, protected us while the others fought it.
JESTER: T-the fiend.
CHARON: You aren't its true fixation, but it hates you by association.
MAES: ...

Maes freezes.

MAES: ...hates...me?
CHARON: It recognizes your position.
ROSETTA: I-it knows you left.

Rosetta's tail hacks and wheezes inside her suit as she manages to kneel, finally lucid again.

ROSETTA: ...that you were the one that got special treatment.
MAES: .....

Maes makes a soft, stunned noise.

CHARON: : It can't trace you past this room... but it sees you as extension of her.
JESTER: B-but-
JESTER: That's not fair!

Jester interjects, his tone turning angry.

JESTER: Maes-
JESTER: Maes works really hard for all of us!
JESTER: She got us out!
ROSETTA: Yeah.
ROSETTA: Us.

Rosetta's voice is dull.

ROSETTA: ...Seems like these are the ones that didn't.
ROSETTA: Both the fiend thing, and-

Her tail thumps around until she bumps into the "ghost", the figure folding two of its paws in a surprised gesture.

ROSETTA: That.
CHARON: Neither have context.
MAES: ...I...

Maes tenses, feeling firm and shaking in the proxy's grip.

MAES: But-
SYNNA: ...Maes.

Synna makes a snapping sound on the other end of the line.

SYNNA: Snap out of it.
SYNNA: You can freak out when you're back, and not in its goddamn lair.
MAES: ...r..right.
MAES: You said- you said you found the ghost.
CHARON: Mm... the spirits that remain and the sentiments without closure.
SYNNA: ...Less flowery, please.
CHARON: ...it's a maybecat.

Jester reaches out a hand, the ghost sniffing it.

JESTER: ...looks...a bit meatier than I'd expect for a ghost.
CHARON: Manifestation is not an exact science.

Jester manages to scritch under its chin, getting a nasty, unsettling purr and a multi-eyed slow blink in response.

JESTER: Feels physical too.
CHARON: ...probably hooked onto any organic matter it can find.
CHARON: Ghosts seek vessels.
SYNNA: Looks like it got into Storage after all.
ROSETTA: Glad this one's friendly..
JESTER: Poor thing must have thought we were lab staff...

The ghost moves suddenly, multiple sets of hands grabbing at Jester's suit-

JESTER: H-hey!

-until the cookie treasures were stolen.

JESTER: Maybe we should bring it more sweets...
SYNNA: Oh, you're not bringing it anything except right back here.
SYNNA: How big is it?
JESTER: ...bigger than Smith, but not by a lot.
SYNNA: Workable for the large-class dorms?
JESTER: I think so...
SYNNA: Congratulations, we have a new resident.
CHARON: We should probably ask it what it needs accommodated.

It was already making grabby hands at Jester, patting him down.

JESTER: ...food.
CHARON: Suppose that's given... I think we should be safe to return without another struggle.

Maes shuffles uncomfortably as Jester takes a few of the beast's hands in his own, giving them a gentle squeeze.

JESTER: Let's get you home.

MATTHIAS: Ohhhh, heeeeeere she is-

The karacel doesn't look up, keeping his gaze straight ahead at the gore-splattered wall.

MATTHIAS: The woman of the hour-
MATTHIAS: Cheeeelsea-
MATTHIAS: Smiles!

Chelsea's eye twitches as Matthias leaps in front of his gaze, a finger under his chin.

MATTHIAS: And what a frowner she is on this beautiful day.
CHELSEA: Can you not do that.
MATTHIAS: Not so feisty now that we're on even footing, are you?
CHELSEA: I'm not stupid, Matthias.
CHELSEA: Can't say the same for you, but-
MATTHIAS: Doesn't matter now, does it?
MATTHIAS: Youuuu can't blow me up.
MATTHIAS: And neither can your pretty attack dog.

Chelsea's eye twitches again.

MATTHIAS: Are you feeling lonely lately, Chels?

Do not engage.

MATTHIAS: All pent up about things?
MATTHIAS: After all-

He huffs smoke in the karacel's face, Chelsea doing his best not to blink as his eyes burn.

MATTHIAS: Can't imagine being apart for nearly three decades helps the sexual repression.
CHELSEA: ....
CHELSEA: Are you done?
MATTHIAS: Sure.
MATTHIAS: Sure, sure!
MATTHIAS: I just came to drop something off for you- the boss wanted me to pass along a little gift.
CHELSEA: I'm good.
MATTHIAS: I don't think you'll want to turn this one down!

His grin widens like a horrible mask as he whisks a photo out of his back pocket, shaking it wrong-side facing Chelsea.

MATTHIAS: Just for you!
CHELSEA: I'm not falling for the dead children bit again.
MATTHIAS: You sure?
MATTHIAS: This one's alive- or, well, all grown up...

He twirls it in his fingers, Chelsea's face paling as the image reveals itself.

[id:]Matthias, revealed to be a canine individual with a stitched face and jagged smile, sporting bicolor hair long hair and fresh, modern glasses. He holds out a photograph of a very familiar fiend- Charon's hair down loose, messy, and his eye markings visible.]

MATTHIAS: For now!

The karacel leaps out of his seat, stumbling as he tries to claw at the canine's eyes- only for Matthias to catch his emaciated arm, cackling.

MATTHIAS: Ohhh, THANK you for the confirmation!
MATTHIAS: Gonna be honest, you pulled a hell of a magic trick with this one!
MATTHIAS: Didn't think you had the equipment to knock her u-
CHELSEA: DON'T TOUCH HIM

His gravely voice cracks, tears welling up in the corners of his eyes before he can stop it.

MATTHIAS: What, you acting like you've got claim to some bastard kid you chucked at her parents?
MATTHIAS: Has he even met you?
MATTHIAS: Some kinda mommy you are.

His shoulders are shaking, breath coming out haggard.

CHELSEA: If you- if you even-
MATTHIAS: Do you really think I'd show you if I thought you could stop me?
MATTHIAS: Consider this a little equivalent exchange.
MATTHIAS: Since your dumb bitch just had to take my arm...

He leans in, giggling between syllables.

MATTHIAS: I'll do the same to your cute little spawn.
MATTHIAS: Of course, who's to say I won't get a little excited-
CHELSEA: Y-
CHELSEA: You-

Matthias throws the cat to the ground with zero hesitation, Chelsea falling flat on his back.

MATTHIAS: How many decades has it been, Chels?
MATTHIAS: Since you started to look down on me?
MATTHIAS: Kept me in check?
MATTHIAS: Go ahead.
MATTHIAS: Come after me.
MATTHIAS: Second you assert yourself as somebody who gives a shit about an incredible, powerful knight of such a prestigious family-
MATTHIAS: Your rep dooms him.
MATTHIAS: That's why you never visited, right?

Matthias mock pouts.

MATTHIAS: Didn't wanna give your baby boy a mark on his head.
MATTHIAS: Too late!
MATTHIAS: Now he's got a different one.

He clasps his hands, snickering.

MATTHIAS: Let's not make that worse.

UNIVERSAL CONSTANTS
Episode 7: Sel(ves) Love]

...Something was wrong.

He didn't know what, or how-
-but something had gone terribly wrong.

Gone.

When Charon had come out of the locker room, Maes had just- gone.

The usual spot at the break room table where she would wait for him was empty- no sign of anyone having even sat in the chair.

It was just a tiny thing. A small change in routine that they'd had for what felt like both such a short period and a long one, something that most people wouldn't even think of.

She had waited for him every time.

Maybe she was running late. Maybe she just- fell behind in her own decontamination. Needed a breather. She had looked like shit coming out of there, something hollow about her expression even through the visor.

He had tried to comfort her on the way to the elevator, only to get a complete non-reaction in the process.

He told her they could catch up after cleanup and get some well-needed rest together.

He waits and he chair remains empty.

Stay or go. If she needed him back at her place, he was neglecting her there. If she was just delayed, he would be leaving her behind. Was she going to be okay navigating after that? She had stumbled as she walked back to the rehab center, body shaking despite her attempts to cover it up.

No amount of chest pain and staring at the chair makes his partner manifest.

....

He chooses to go to the apartment.

The hallways are the same. Every bit of floor tile and carpet and pristine, well maintained surface haven't changed at all, but there's a lump in his throat that grows. Passerbys greet him, knowing him as the charming knight who visits the Director and makes her smile-

Maes' door lays in front of him.

As Charon reaches for the handle, the door swings open- no one there.

The apartment door is unlocked.

CHARON: ...Boss?

No response.

He steps inside, tail plates audibly shifting around.

One of the kitchenette's chairs had been thrown to the side, other furniture jostled and shoved out of place, the bathroom door flung open-

-and a lump made of all of the blankets and sheets on the bed, tightly curled and making indiscernible noises.
Black sludge bleeds through, leaving dark, blotted stains.

CHARON: ....
CHARON: ...Is it okay if I stay with you right now?

The lump curls up tighter.

[id: A person-sized lump under black-stained blankets, Charon looking down at it with a deeply distressed grimace.]

CHARON: ...I can leave you alone too if it'd be easier.

Tighter, a little noise of distress.

The dog makes his way over, patting the side of the bed.

CHARON: Then I'll keep you company until you can come out.
MAES: Nnn.

Even then, she seems to untense just a bit.

CHARON: Felt wrong having you so scarce at the end of the day...

Her words are muffled, but clearly very, very unhappy.

CHARON: I was worried.

Fumbling, only for the cat to allow her snout to peek through.

MAES: I-
MAES: I already made enough mess.
CHARON: We all knew it'd be a risky job, I'm just glad everyone got out fine.
MAES: .....
MAES: This...isn't fine.
MAES: This is the exact- it's-
CHARON: Something we'll have to handle, and we'll do so together.
MAES: You could have DIED-

Her voice cracks.

CHARON: I know.
MAES: I-
MAES: I could have lost everyone, the whole program, residents, you, everyone, all because- b-because of my idiotic-
CHARON: We picked a crew that had the best chance of survival, made a crucial discover, and now can sit and assess how to navigate it in the future.
CHARON: What matters here next is how you're willing to address what was found.
MAES: H-how can you be so calm?!
MAES: I fucked up, Judgment!
CHARON: Days like these are a expectation I operate under, a occupational hazard no different than you having to bare the bulk of responsibility for this entire facility.

Charon sits himself on the side of the bed.

CHARON: But my expectations are a chosen torture, I signed up for this.
CHARON: You didn't get a chance to pick.
MAES: You-

Maes sniffles, a little trace of black sludge still on her lip.

MAES: You didn't sound like you s-signed up for this.
MAES: Not with that thing.
CHARON: If I had no idea there'd be days like this, I wouldn't be standing here right now.
MAES: And what if y-you had lost?!
MAES: What if you weren't standing?
MAES: What would have happened then!
CHARON: You wouldn't be here either, and I wasn't remotely willing to let that happen.
MAES: Willing doesn't mean you're i-invincible.
CHARON: No... but that thing and myself are the same type of being.
CHARON: If it could hurt me, I can absolutely do the same.
CHARON: What I wasn't expecting is something this full of targeted hate that even being associated sent it off.

She flinches.

CHARON: When two fiends clash, emotions meld for a moment.
CHARON: You are not its true fixation, but you're pretty close to the blast zone.
MAES: Too close.
MAES: People could have gotten- it's still down there-!
CHARON: Something to keep an eye on... it can't find its way out because it doesn't understand its real target is dead.
MAES: ..I can't bring back my mother for it to kill.
CHARON: You cannot.
CHARON: It's incredibly raw, still not quite fully formed, and desperately seeking catharsis.
MAES: Then what?
MAES: I can't have the program therapists come down and get disemboweled!
CHARON: I'll be the one to go down and reason.
MAES: Judgment.
CHARON: Now that I've fought it once, it can't jump me twice.
MAES: Judgment, you're-
MAES: You can't just-
MAES: What if you lose?!
CHARON: I've seen inside its head and it's looked into mine. As of now I am the one person who understand it most and it knows that.
MAES: I-
MAES: I can't just-
CHARON: We don't need to resolve this now.

Maes curls up tight, hiding her snout again.

CHARON: ..What would you want to do?
MAES: I- I don't know-

The blankets rustle, the movement catching Charon's eye. The dark stains on the sheets are especially prominent on the lower half of her body, freshly wet and smearing.

CHARON: ...Are you sick?
CHARON: ...Hurting yourself?

She makes an unpleasant whimper.

CHARON: It's okay, just... talk for now.

RE: [PCA] UNIVERSAL CONSTANTS - skinstealer - 04-14-2026

MAES: I- I just couldn't stand it-
MAES: I t-thought about-
MAES: Everything that could have been lost, all because I said not to look-
CHARON: I think if we managed this long without incident, it's incredibly lost in multiple senses.
MAES: B-
MAES: The...the- ....there's-
MAES: The other one, that-

She audibly swallows, choking a little.

MAES: ...It was all alone.
MAES: I decided that for it.
MAES: I-
MAES: I even yelled at Jester for s-showing it kindness-
CHARON: It protected us despite sharing a common source.
MAES: That just means I l-left it there.
MAES: It-
MAES: ...I can't forgive myself for leaving a sibling in the dark.
MAES: For years.
CHARON: You didn't believe in ghosts.
MAES: Everyone told me to check.
MAES: Jester knew for god knows how long.
MAES: I ignored all of it!
CHARON: "Doesn't really matter, everyone knows now.
MAES: B-but-
CHARON: But?
MAES: ...what do I do now?
CHARON: Think on it.
MAES: I don't have time.
CHARON: I'll give you the time.
MAES: ...how?
CHARON: ...My castle.
MAES: ...castle?
MAES: Is-

She pokes her face out again, this time all the way. What little can be seen of her hair is a mess, as if she'd been pulling it out.

MAES: The...is that where your armory is?
CHARON: Mm...

The dog tries to scoot closer.

CHARON: Castle is a better way to describe.
CHARON: In there time doesn't work the same way.
CHARON: A day can be a week, a month, any number of eternities your mind can make it.
MAES: ...just like that?
CHARON: Easy as it sounds, a timeless world where you can rest and study a decade in a vacation's break.
MAES: ..okay.
MAES: I'll...allow it.
MAES: I can't show up to work like this...
CHARON: Mm..
CHARON: When?

She pushes herself to untangle the blankets, looking more and more worse for wear the more she emerges from her hiding place. Fur torn out in clumps, hair a mess, self-induced oozing black wounds on her hips and thighs and stains all over her chest...

She can't find the strength to cover up.

MAES: ...I h-hate that you're seeing this.
CHARON: We'll clean you up.
MAES: O-oh...you'll all be there, isn't that how it works?
CHARON: No limitations on proxy summoning in their own home.
MAES: ...You'll have to carry me.
CHARON: I can do that.

She pulls herself out entirely, holding out her arms weakly.

He scoops the cat up carefully.

[Image Description: Charon scoops up an exhausted, injured and bloodstained Maes in his arms. His face has a number of scratches from the previous fight, his eye slightly visible through his glasses lens. In the background a number of square portals showing a night lit world filled with stars and clouds and a singular large mysterious tower slanted.]

CHARON: Just tell me when.

She presses her face into his chest fluff.

MAES: ...take me away from all this.

RE: [PCA] UNIVERSAL CONSTANTS - skinstealer - 04-20-2026

There's a sudden shift in air pressure, cool but not how the lab's air conditioners feel.
It's a proper draft-

MAES: ...is that...wind?

Her nose twitches, ears perking despite the weakness.

CHARON: Mmhmm.. we're located on the beach right now, so you'll get a bit of that breeze at times even inside this place.
MAES: Oh...

Her eyes widen, looking more alert.

MAES: Oh, it's-
MAES: I've never-
CHARON: We're still indoors, you won't have to worry about waves and sand.
MAES: No, it's... It feels nice...
CHARON: Mm... should we start with getting a room going?
MAES: ...Where do you stay?
CHARON: Varies, plenty of guest rooms to work with.
MAES: ...but...yours.
MAES: I...I think I'd like yours.
MAES: I-if you'll have me.
CHARON: I don't really have a dedicated room admittedly... I sleep wherever.
MAES: Then show me somewhere you'd like to share.
CHARON: There's a nice spot to rest in the library...
MAES: Yes, please.

Her face goes right back into his chest fluff.
He starts walking, his metal steps lightly echoing through the halls.

CHARON: Any preference drink-wise?
MAES: Lemonade?
CHARON: Can be arranged, easily.
CHARON: Canned alright?
MAES:  Mhm...
CHARON: I'll call someone-

Hello!

CHARON: Well, there we go...

A new voice, distinctively a proxy from the somewhat uncanny sound...but none of the Rooks Maes knows.

MAES: W-who is?!

She fluffs up, looking particularly awkward while naked and her fur all uneven.

Housekeeping, so to speak..

[id: a tall, curvy figure wearing a patchwork dress- a striped snake tail curls behind her, her posture curious yet polite.]

CHARON: That's Lash, she watches the place.
CHARON: Takes care of the castle and the Rooks when there aren't enough hands on deck..

Mm... tending to Mar today but I have time to get you anything you might need.

MAES: I-I, ah- maybe something to cover up.
MAES: I didn't- realize there'd be other people-

Maes flinches for a moment as a light blanket is tossed on her, Charon helping draping it over her body.

I'll have one of the others bring you something comfortable.

CHARON: Pajamas sound good?
MAES: M-mhm.

Mm.. One moment then.

The proxy zooms off, a gust of wind blowing behind her.

CHARON: Spot's just ahead, sorry about that...
MAES: I-it's fine...

The dog finally arrives at a couch and table setup, laying the cat down gently.

CHARON: There we are.. curl up as much as you need.

RE: [PCA] UNIVERSAL CONSTANTS - skinstealer - 04-27-2026

Maes takes a moment to acclimate, unused to...everything. Her ears twitch at slight noises, the unfamiliarity with both the environment and the situation only offset by Charon's presence.

MAES: ....you...really aren't mad?
MAES: I- I figured you'd...be furious.
CHARON: Why would I be?
MAES: ...I left you.
MAES: You...
MAES: You sounded like you needed me.
MAES: I couldn't face that after me causing the situation in the first place.
CHARON: I just want you to be okay, really...
MAES: ...but I want you to be okay.
CHARON: If you are, then so am I.
MAES: ...

She reaches out a hand.

CHARON: Mm?

Charon lightly grasps on, only for Maes to tug on his arm, gesturing for him to kneel.
He follows, ever-ready to take commands.

CHARON: Boss?

As soon as he's close, she leans in, giving him a gentle, shy kiss on the forehead.

MAES: ...for doing a good job.
CHARON: ...First time you've done that.
MAES: You saved a lot of people.
MAES: A lot of my family.
MAES: ...I'd be a bad boss if I didn't give you a bonus.

The corner of her mouth twinges into a subtle smile.

CHARON: Maybe I should save people more often...

[id: charon leaning over maes, nestling his muzzle into her hair to give her a tender forehead kiss. both of them are shyly smiling, a moment just for them in a surreal, dream-like library.]

The dog returns the gesture, muzzle pushing through messy hair as he sits up just enough to reach.
Maes purrs as she leans in closer, whispering right into his ear.

MAES: That's the first time I've done that,
CHARON: Is that really so?
MAES: Mhm.
CHARON: Well, maybe that's the first time I've had a little kiss on the head.
MAES: Surely not.
CHARON: Is that so hard to imagine?
MAES: You're very sweet.
MAES: Sweet people get that, don't they?
CHARON: Less so when you're a traveling swordsman.
MAES: Makes even less sense now.
MAES: Where's the sense of...whimsy, or something.
CHARON: Appears to be how it goes.
CHARON: Confident you can handle me?
MAES: I'll be sure to wield you well.
CHARON: Might have a initial curve.
MAES: I think I'm a fast learner.

The distance between them feels smaller and smaller.

CHARON:  I suppose you did adjust to the whole witch thing better than people expected...
MAES: And now you've taken me home to your magic castle...
CHARON: Mmhmm.. how are you taking that?
MAES: ...it's hard to say.
MAES: I...might be a little in shock.
MAES: This is a lot of new things, to say the least, and-

She gestures to the somewhat stained blanket around her legs.

MAES: I...am still in pain, admittedly.
MAES: While I can tolerate this much when my mind's busy like this...
CHARON: Mm... I'll call someone-
FLOR: I'm way ahead of both of you.
FLOR: Need a little first aid?

Flor makes their way inside, a pack of canned drinks in one hand and a medical kit in the other.

MAES: ...Flor.

Maes can't help but blush, looking...embarrassed as the proxy enters the room.

MAES: I-I'm sorry you have to see me like this-
FLOR: You're good, this one right here's had me patch him up from worse.
FLOR: Lemonade?
MAES: ...yes...

The proxy slides her a can, nicely refrigerated.

FLOR: Just tell me where it hurts.
FLOR: Charon will be my assistant today.
CHARON: Assistant?
FLOR: You're good at that sort of thing, yeah?
MAES: He certaainly is.

She can't help but smile, still hesitating before undoing the blaanket covering.
Her thighs are still scratched up  badly, half of the wounds still oozing...the other, beginning to scab already.

MAES: ...I...should not have gone as deep.
MAES: I heal quickly, but-
FLOR: You're going to have time to recover.
FLOR: Mr. Judgment?

The proxy hands the dog a few warm towels.

FLOR: Gonna clean you up first if it's alright.
MAES: M-mhm...
FLOR: Tell me if it stings.

The dog carefully gets to work on wiping away any remnant slime, Flor prepping the disinfectant.
Maes keeps her expression even, but the shame breaks through- one more unfamiliarity to this.

CHARON: You're doing good right now.
MAES: I wouldn't call slicing up my own thighs 'good', Judgment.
FLOR: You're accepting help, aren't you?
MAES: Help I could have avoided needing in the first place...
FLOR: Are you going to repeat that?
MAES: ...I can't guarantee anything.
FLOR: Does it help knowing you have a whole crew committed to picking you up after?
MAES: I- I don't-
MAES: ...it does help, I just-
MAES: ...sorry.
FLOR: You'll be safe, have time to relax and think about it all.
MAES: ...

She sighs, allowing herself to slump back on the couch.

MAES: You're certainly coolheaded about this...
FLOR: Maybe that's what you've needed?
MAES: It hasn't exactly been an option.
FLOR: And now that it is?
MAES: ...it's...new.
MAES: All of it is.
FLOR: Get used to it.
MAES: I am.
MAES: Months ago this would have been unthinkable...
CHARON: Lucky that Synna pushed you to put up that application, mm?
MAES: ...very.
MAES: I don't regret it for a second.
CHARON: Likewise.

She can't help but smile again, tiny but warm.

MAES: ...how are they looking?
CHARON: Good, should be ready.
FLOR: This is the part that stings.

Flor gets into position.

MAES: I can handle it.
MAES: I've-

She trails off, her voice unpleasantly small.

MAES: ...I've had to do it myself plenty.
FLOR: You're pretty tough then, yeah?

The proxy starts applying the disinfectant with care, watching her face for any wincing or gritted teeth-

-a slight tensing, but no other reaction.

FLOR: Mm, quiet.
FLOR: Usually we gotta have to keep folks from wiggling.
FLOR: You're gonna say something if need a break, alright?
MAES: I can take a lot more than disinfectant. Just stings.
FLOR: Still...
MAES: ....

She keeps her thighs still still, just leaning back and letting them work.

FLOR: Can I ask a question?
FLOR: Unrelated to this.
MAES: Mm.
MAES: Go ahead.
FLOR: What's got you making cute little faces around me already-
CHARON: Flor!

The blush immediately hits, the cat unable to shrink into the couch and get treated at the same time.

MAES: W-well, I'm not sure-
FLOR: I mean I appreciate it.. just wasn't expecting to find out I'm your type.
MAES: I'm still coming to terms with having a type, let alone multiple...
FLOR: Keep talking, I'm nosy.
MAES: It...hasn't been an option for me.
MAES: Felt foolish to consider.
FLOR: And now?
MAES: ...in some ways it still feels like that.
MAES: Like a beautiful dream that'll be over soon, but with no warning.
FLOR: And if I'm-.. if we're all there when you wake up?
MAES: ...I suppose that's an option.
FLOR: It'd be nice, right?
MAES: Dream come true...

The proxy moves on to bandaging things up, the wounds properly clean.

FLOR: Gonna have a nice rest after this and wake up in the castle.
MAES: I'm not used to sleeping in new beds, admittedly...but...
MAES: ...it is late, considering the day we had. You must all be tired.
FLOR: Not really.
CHARON: Stopped needing sleep over a decade ago, side effect of exposure to uncategorized radiation.
MAES: ....then, last night?
CHARON: Purely done for the comfort of it.

Her smile returns.

CHARON: Is that odd?
CHARON: To do something biologically redundant just because it feels nice?
MAES: Many species do.
MAES: Eating, sleeping, messing around...
CHARON: Suppose that's true...
CHARON: I didn't even realize it initially.
CHARON: Had to stay up for over 48 hours and it became obvious, cousin was worried.
CHARON: It's a perk but you still crave the restful warmth, moreso with company.
MAES: ...well...
MAES: I suppose we can both be mutated together.

She reaches out to pat his head.

CHARON: Go for it,

He positions himself in reach.

MAES: You're getting a lot of sweet out of me lately.
CHARON: That good?
MAES: Mm, but I worry about you forgetting your place.
CHARON: Am I now?
MAES: If you keep seeing me like this, you could lose respect for me as your dominant...
CHARON: Impossible.
MAES: Even now?
CHARON: Always.

She scratches behind his ears, letting out a warm sigh.

MAES: ...thank you.
CHARON: Of course.
MAES: I have a request, then.
MAES: ...as your boss.
CHARON: Mm?
MAES: I'd like to have dinner in bed.
MAES: ...my back is killing me, and I didn't eat at all when I got back...
CHARON: I can absolutely arrange that.
CHARON: Anything you've craved particularly?
MAES: Something simple, maybe a repeat...and a Rook to keep me company.
CHARON: Anyone specific?
MAES: Whoever can tend to me best right now.
CHARON: Flor?
FLOR: I wouldn't mind more time.
MAES: Then it's settled...

RE: [PCA] UNIVERSAL CONSTANTS - skinstealer - 05-05-2026

Charon had wrapped up tucking the cat into bed, Flor lounging at the foot the entire time.

MAES: ...

Maes kneads the blanket gently with her claws, taking inn the new environment with more than a little shyness. Everything felt entirely different, from the sense of fresh air just outside a window- an actual window, with scents she'd never even imagined properly, to the feeling of the old, well-loved quilt covering her lower half.

FLOR: Cozy?
MAES: It...feels more worn in.
MAES: Older.
FLOR: What do you mean?
MAES: I'm used to things being made in relative recency, what with being on the surface for only 7 years.
FLOR: Everything here has been around longer than us, older than the lab and much of the nearby city.
MAES: It's...comforting.
MAES: I never realized.
FLOR: It's very much a labor of love maintaining this place, you'll see Lash and the Rooks doing quite a bit of maintenance.
MAES: And you do all this while Judgment goes out and about?
FLOR: Yeah, wherever we can.
FLOR: There's other folks from across time and space who stop by in a crisis.
MAES: Oh...I didn't realize there could be visitors.
MAES: ...or Lash.
FLOR: She's as old as the castle.
MAES: ...well, she seems kind...
MAES: ...thank you again.
MAES: I-
MAES: -appreciate you allowing me here.
FLOR: It's what it's made for.
FLOR: A break room for folks in crisis.
MAES: You can take one too, then- while we eat.
FLOR: Mm.. he's got Broth and Mar helping him, prepping big portions so ya'll will have enough.
MAES: ...some time together beforehand, then. I, ah-

Her shyness returns, Maes' tailtip nervously twitching visible even under the blanket.

MAES: Forgive my nerves.
FLOR: You're a long way from home, you're allowed.
MAES: No, it's-
MAES: ...I suppose we're having our after hours after all.
MAES: As promised.
FLOR: The longest after hours, time moves different in Castle Styx.
MAES: I'm not even sure how to make the most of it.
FLOR: Indulge, take a 7 hour nap in minutes.
MAES: But then I'd lose 7 hours in here with you.
FLOR: Which wouldn't be a single hour out there.
MAES: Bizarre to me.
FLOR: You'll get used to it.
MAES: Is that an invite to come over more?
FLOR: Only if that'll tempt you.
MAES: Lots of things tempt me about you all.
FLOR: Mm.. we can all exist at once here.
MAES: Mm.
MAES: Especially that.
MAES: Maybe an inappropriate time to mention my thoughts brewing about it...
FLOR: You're gonna have to share with the class.
MAES: Not an ideal time to be messing around with wounds like this...but...
MAES: Uninterrupted time together...
FLOR: Full board covered too.
MAES: And meals...

Maes reaches out her hand, her claws looking oddly delicate.

FLOR: Looking forward to that part?

The proxy latches on, their own skin somewhere between artificially smooth and a bizarre softness, fitting for how careful their touch is.

MAES: All of it.
MAES: Learning all of you, finding all the right spots to press...
FLOR: Think you're all spots on the right day.
MAES: And today?
FLOR: With all of us here?
FLOR: You're fucked.

Blush covers Maes' face, the cat coughing.

MAES: And- how literal is that?
FLOR: That one's on you to decide.

Flor leans in, nuzzling against their partner's cheek. Maes returns it readily, tracing her claws up the proxy's arm.

MAES: I'm still figuring out some things, but...
FLOR: But?
MAES: I'm...open to trying more, I think.
FLOR: I'm game.
FLOR: Explore me, get to know what you'e working with.
MAES: Are you sure?
MAES: I haven't exactly been handsy with any of you directly outside of cuddling.
FLOR: Mmhmm.
MAES: ...

She takes a deep breath before massaging a claw into their collarbone.

FLOR: Feels good...
MAES: And here?

Against their neck now.

The proxy shivers at that, clearly loving the pressure point.

FLOR: Curse of being part of a dog's psyche.
MAES: A weakness to keep in mind...

Down their chest, then along their side- feeling each curve with a pleased purr.

FLOR: Know there's not much but...
MAES: Shh.
MAES: Don't downplay yourself.

With more than a little hesitation, she moves her other hand lower.

Flor is completely smooth and featureless- their null patch the same material as their hands, including the lovely soft feeling.

FLOR: I know...
MAES: Have you been worried?
FLOR: Never been involved directly like this.
MAES: ...neither have I, in some senses.
FLOR: First times for both of us.
FLOR: I can live with that.
MAES: I've never actually-

She presses her claws down against the flat surface, rubbing softly with the blunt sides to avoid scratching.

MAES: Touched someone like this.
MAES: Not of my own accord.
FLOR: Y-you're really good at it.
MAES: I've barely started.

A little harder, still avoiding her clawtips.

FLOR: H-hope it's alright..
MAES: Why would I judge, Flor?

She leans in, nuzzling the proxy's neck.

MAES: ...you've likely figured that I have similar insecurities by now...
FLOR: Little obvious, but with me it's a bit of freak shit I think.
FLOR: Ghost bunny robot thing.
MAES: Feels more easy to process than my own...
FLOR: Does it really?
MAES: Mm....

She pauses before pulling her hand away, taking Flor's and bringing it underneath the quilt- and between her own legs.

There was a slight bulge in Maes' pajamas- the cat slowly pulling them down just enough to let the same black tendril Kettle had worked with unfurl out.

FLOR: Cute...
MAES: It's-
MAES: I didn't even mean for you all to realize-

[id: Maes struggling to stay composed with her lower body exposed, still trying to hide behind and old quilt and crossed arms. She's nervous- but clearly excited at Flor's attention.]
She isn't sure what to do with her hands, fumbling vulnerably with her upper body and settling on a nervous, self embrace.

FLOR: I like it.
MAES: ...you'd be the first.
MAES: It's not exactly what was meant for me...
FLOR: Nobody here was meant to be in general.
MAES: Mm...
MAES: My mother- she had a plan for me, start to finish.
MAES: This would never have fit.
MAES: I-
MAES: ...I don't know.
MAES: It's not even all that uncommon for slime-based mutations, to develop a preference in how one presents-
FLOR: Nothing stopping you in here.
MAES: Aside from myself.
FLOR: You really want that though?
MAES: I-
MAES: I don't know.
MAES: It's never been an option, like something forbidden.
MAES: It doesn't fit the "image"-

Maes makes large, exaggerated air quotes.

MAES: -I've had to build up.
FLOR: Things change.
MAES: I suppose they already have.
FLOR: What's a change of setup going to really do to hurt you, right?
MAES: ...I don't know either.
MAES: It- it hasn't hurt so far, but-
FLOR: Worst case scenario, you keep it to here while you figure out how you feel on it.
MAES: ...alright.

She lets out a long sigh, bumping her face againt the proxy's.

FLOR: This place is a safehouse made to protect its guests from the end of the world.
MAES: ...quite the title.
FLOR: Gotta push a little whimsy.
MAES: Certainly sounds safe enough to...experiment a little...

She moves the proxy's hand back and forth, allowing them to feel her up.

The proxy follows along, fingers occasionally tracing her on the verge of grasping.

FLOR: Not so bad, right?
MAES: N-no, it's...very nice...

She sinks into the pillows, letting out a gentle noise as she allows herself to unwind.

FLOR: There you go...
MAES: I don't even allow myself to do this alone...
FLOR: Sometimes you just need a extra hand to be fair.
MAES: Is that the same for you?
FLOR: In what way?
MAES: Have you needed help this whole time?

Her free hand wanders back to Flor's thigh.

FLOR: I mean I've been thinking about something like this, just never thought it'd happen so sudden.
MAES: You and I both.
FLOR: Happy it did though.
MAES: ...me as well.
MAES: Though I imagine Judgment is rather jealous right now.
FLOR: He'll just find a way to squeeze in here,
MAES: Is that so?
MAES: He looking forward to his first night taking me home?
FLOR: More than anything, we all are.
MAES: A shame that I'll be limited...if I knew that this was going to be how my night would go, maybe I...

She shakes her head.

MAES: You're resourceful subs. I'm sure you can work with my injuries...
FLOR: If you wait just a moment we'll have you set with plenty to eat.
MAES: And we'll resume after?
FLOR: Mmhmm, with a few extra folks.
MAES: ...thank you.

RE: [PCA] UNIVERSAL CONSTANTS - skinstealer - 05-11-2026

Without much time to really process, the dog descends from the ceiling like a bat, door following suit shortly to reveal Mar and Kettle carrying a full feast.

Maes startles, accidentally rubbing against Flor's hand in the process and making a gargled whine.

MAES: A-ah-!

[id: charon posing dramatically with his cape, flor, kettle and mar standing at the ready to help set up trays and bowls to give maes her feast. everyone looks very fancy and poised to serve her, a shot straight out of a romance novel.]

CHARON: Dinner is ready.
MAR: We made pulled meats...
MAES: W-wonderful... She immediately tried to save face.
CHARON: You both take good care of each other while waiting?
FLOR: You have no idea...

Maes tries very hard not to look conspicuous, her dick still clearly out as she coughed.

The dog seemingly hasn't noticed- or at least, is polite enough to not call attention to it.

CHARON: You need something for your throat?
MAR: I can go grab some drops...
MAES: N-no, no.
MAES: Just.

Crossing her legs.

MAES: Excited for dinner.

Charon smiles, small and warm.

CHARON: Guessing you'll eat in bed?
CHARON: I can have Mar set up.
MAES: M-mhm.
MAES: Yes.
CHARON: Mar?
MAR: Would you prefer a table over the side or on the bed itself today?
MAES: Bed itself should be fine.

Mar makes a silly little rattle as she assembles the setup, Flor scooting back oonto the corner of the bed to make room.

MAR: Just don't make too many sudden moves and you should be good..
MAES: I'll be very careful.

Maes gave Mar an appreciative smile, still visibly anxious over being walked in on.

MAES: Thank you.

The large proxy finishes setting up the cat's dinner.

MAR: There you go...
MAR: I'd recommend a fork for this one.

Maes gets herself settled in, not hesitating to grab her utensils and take a large bite- all of the shyness she had gone, the familiar dish a welcome treat.

Flor positions to lean on her shoulder and keep her company.

CHARON: Both getting along?
FLOR: More than a little it seems...
MAES: F-flor is...very accomodating.
CHARON: Gotta be tuned to take care of you, know how it is.
MAES: I suppose it's all a dominant could really ask for...though I will have to make sure you're all cared for in turn.
CHARON: Mm, some of us are high maintenance.
MAR: You just want to be spoiled.
FLOR: Is that so wrong?
MAES: If I want my subs to be their best, they have to be in good condition.

Another huge bite, licking sauce off her lips.

MAES: It's my job to ensure that.
FLOR: What's the plan there?

The rabbity construct nuzzles her arm.

MAES: Well...I've got to get my wounds healed, but this will  be a good opportunity to get to know those I haven't as much, and figure out how you all tick.
MAES: From there, I can scheme.

Mar chimes in.

MAR: I do think Kettle and Broth would be good to spend time with in that case, though they can be tricky to wrangle...
MAES: Would they miss this opportunity, though?
MAR: They wouldn't, Broth is probably checking every trying to find us...
MAES: I'd like to get to know it better...
MAR: Mm.. just be gentle with it.
MAR: Poor thing, even with all its progress still has its points of being timid.
MAES: Mm...

She pauses her feast, thinking.

MAES: Anything I should avoid?

The dog sits himself down at a nearby desk to work on his own plate.

CHARON: Don't scream at it.
MAES: I would never.
CHARON: Otherwise.. you can probably trust your instincts... I wonder how a skeleton feels about being bit.
MAES: Gnawed on, even...

She takes a hearty bite of her meal, clearly enthused at the thought.

MAES: Admittedly the skeleton thing is superficial, closer to the others but..
CHARON: Technically a skullhead.
CHARON: Different concept.
MAES: And what things does a skullhead like itself grow weak in the knees for?
FLOR: I mean the obvious answer is you.
MAR: It's like Kettle's vent-

Kettle lets out a grumpy noise.

MAR: True...
CHARON: This place gets network now?
FLOR: Yeah, actually.
CHARON: ... Huh.
MAES: ...internet connection aside-
MAES: That doesn't give me a lot to work with.
MAES: There could be a million different angles there.
FLOR: It's actually quite soft...
MAES: I gathered...
MAES: ....I will have to use a lighter touch.
CHARON: Non-verbal too, as we went over.
CHARON: But... you pretty much know it by now even if you haven't talked all that much.
CHARON: We're all pieces of each other after all.
FLOR: I'm the cute one.
MAR: I mean, Kettle's probably the cute one.
FLOR: If Kettle's the cute one, then I'm adorable.
CHARON: That's Mar.
FLOR: Throw me a bone, my guy.

Maes can't help but smile, too caught up in enjoying the banter and her meal to interject.
I...am very lucky, I think...

RE: [PCA] UNIVERSAL CONSTANTS - skinstealer - 05-20-2026

Dinner was, as always- perfect.
Even with her lack of experience with cooked meals, Maes could tell that even just over the months they'd started this relationship, he had been improving more and more. Custom fitting the menu to her tastes, noting down her reactions in his head. He didn't even have to tell her he was doing it, she could taste it every time.

The rooks served her well, observing any details, any signs of discomfort and tending to them- massaging her, asking about her wounds, any pain, any worry.

It was so easy to relax into it, to feel her partners serve her.

To be watched in a way that mattered, one that was comfortable and warm. They expected nothing in return, her very presence all they could ask for. She wondered if this was definable as worship in some senses, to be tended to so carefully- but she also knew how she would define it.

It was safety.
The ability to trust, something she'd never had before.

...enough to allow herself extremes.

Utter indulgence.

After all-
They had done so much work for her, and even with a lack of expectations from her...
They deserved rewards, too.

Negotiations were quick- maybe too quick, but after enough of the casual touching, the flirting, everything, it was so easy to get caught up in it.

Maes digs her claws into the sheets, having to grit her teeth to keep from getting loud- the fiend between her legs doing everything he could to try to break that concentration.

MAES: Y-you've definitely been jealous of the others getting in first, haven't you?
CHARON: Mmhm...

His submissive nature is on full display, tail wagging in excitement and breath heavy with excitement, completely betraying the dog's calm knight persona. Any semblance of politeness or decorum was gone entirely, Charon's enthusiasm taking over any attempt at it.

MAES: You're going to have to keep up, though...going after all the Rooks tonight means I have-

A soft growl escapes her.

MAES: Precedents set for your performance.

Expectations on her terms, and no one else's. That growl is enough to get him to ramp things up, his fangs extending and grazing her.

Maes had already filled most of his mouth at this point, still raring to go despite the pile of proxies on the floor.

MAES: Y-you really- want to measure up, don't you?
CHARON: Mmhmm..

The dog latches onto her legs tight, trying to get the best stability he can.

Kettle makes a snarky little chirp, sitting on the heap of others who'd already taken their turns.

If he doesn't I'll go for round two.

MAES: C-careful, the bandages-

She grabs the back of his head, more warning him than any trying to cause any actual pain.

MAES: I'll handle keeping you in place...

He relaxes his approach, letting her lead him as she rhythmically works over his mouth.

There's another casual chirp from the proxy as she sneaks over to the pillows next to Maes and flops, her voice somewhat distorted after all of the slime still on her lips.

You're really not tired yet?

[id: maes, kettle, and charon on the bed together, charon's head deep between maes' legs as he sucks her off. kettle's watching eagerly, egging maes on to keep getting rougher. maes herself grabs his hair and pushes him in closer, teeth gritted and focused on the sensation of it.]

MAES:S-something about being here...

Kettle cackles at that, clearly ecstatic over how fast things are moving.

Why wouldn't she be? Maes feels the same, everything feeling more like a culmination versus rushing in too quick.

Already becoming a resident.

MAES: I-I mean, it's not like I have to worry about waking up on time...

You definitely won't have to if this one tries a bit harder.

Kettle lets out another quick chirp before reaching over and casually slapping Charon's ass, the dog immediately picking up speed as he whines.

MAES: You like that, don't you...I didn't know you were s-sensitive there...

The dog gives her an affirmative pat on her leg just below the bandages, confirming as much.

MAES: You want your ass messed with, Judgment?
MAES: You never mentioned that...
MAES: What other secrets is he hiding, Kettle?

The proxy claps her hands before replying with a gleeful shriek.

Pretty sure he likes being kicked and stepped on.

MAES: You want to be pushed to the ground and your face rubbed into the floor?
MAES: Shoes, socks, or nothing at all?

The dog makes a muffled noise at Kettle, only getting a smug little hiss in response.

Leggings let him lean into the whole workplace thing.
He likes pawpads too.

MAES: Workplace...
MAES: I knew you were hiding impure thoughts about the office.
MAES: Go on.

The dog pulls back to finally respond properly, taking a moment to breathe.

CHARON: Hh...
CHARON: W...we literally established ground rules day one, this isn't a shock.
MAES: Play into it.
MAES: I figure you like to be bullied.

She shoves her dick back in his mouth, Charon lightly biting on it in a playful defiance. The slime conforms, somewhere between slicing into gelatin and denting it.

MAES: Nn-

Instantly slammed into his mouth hard, hitting the back of his throat this time.

The dog takes the opportunity to play into Kettle's advice and feeling up the cat's leg- his breathing getting heavier even while playing careful around her dressings.

MAES: Y-you like that too, even all cut up?
MAES: You like thinking about these every day, even at work?
CHARON: Mm..
MAES: Dirty mind.

She wastes no time squeezing his head between them, locking him in place with a slight wince.

She knows she's pushing it.

MAES: Fit for a dirty knight.

But the sound of his voice keeps her testing the boundary, finding where her injured body draws the line.

Charon still does his best to feel her up, having to clumsily get any touch he possibly can out of his limited position. She can feel his mouth leaking out any excess dripping, unable to contain all of it.

MAES: Y-you love it when I fuck your mouth...it makes me wonder...

Even with the tight squeeze, Charon starts to really feel it out with his tongue, almost like... kissing.

MAES: Hh...that's it, get in there...

She matched his motions, the slime's tentacle-like nature becoming more and more obvious.

His whole body relaxes, blissed out and content, happy to serve his purpose in this moment.

MAES: You know, for being so patient, I think you deserve another reward.
CHARON: Mm?

Something brushes between his legs- a moment passing before he recognizes it as her tail.

He can't help but shiver at that, a diabolical smile spreading across Maes' face.

MAES: Did you do your research on karacels, Judgment?

It takes him a moment, a surprised noise sneaking out of him.

CHARON: ...mmhmm.
MAES: Kettle, can you assist me?
MAES: I'm sure feeling through pants would just feel like a tease...

The proxy doesn't miss a beat, getting the dog's pants down in no time.

MAES: That's a good rook...

She brushes up against him again, this time Charon directly feeling the velvety skin hidden within the tail tip graze him.

His legs shake, Maes able to feel him dripping from even the slight touch.

MAES: Good knights get rewarded, just like this.

Gently cupping him, almost hand-like in a mitten-esque way, able to investigate and rub him with far more finesse than one would expect looking at the tail's exterior.

MAES: You want to do a good job, don't you?

Charon makes a noise of agreement, barely intelligible through the mess in his mouth. It's different than grinding, Maes getting lost for a moment in how his shapes feel as she starts fully stroking him.

MAES: And you know, after using all of the rooks' mouths...I'm realizing my back hurts less.
MAES: The tenseness is gone...

Shoving down his throat, just enough room for him to still breathe.

MAES: So I have a proposition.
MAES: You're to be on demand.
CHARON: Mm?
MAES: If I need pain relief, your mouth is mine.
CHARON: Hmm...

Charon plays up thinking on it, only to get a hard squeeze as punishment for his teasing- especially working over the tip, He pushes directly into it, spreading the mess inside her tail almost desperately.

MAES: That's it, you just need something to screw, don't you?
MAES: Starved for it...

A resigned noise between her legs.

MAES: I'm guessing your hand just isn't enough with how pent up you've been.

Kettle leans onto the cat's shoulder with a little chitter.

He's just too polite to ask.

MAES: What would he ask for, then?
MAES: Spill his secrets.

A whisper in her ear.

He loves it when you play mean.

MAES: Is that so.
MAES: So, if I were to...

She grabs his hair and pulled, only to shove deep into his throat.

That gets a noise out of him immediately, followed by an audible gag.

MAES: You like that?
MAES: Making you choke on it?
CHARON: Mmm-mhm...!

Another little whisper.

He wishes you'd do this to him at work some days.

MAES: Dirty.

She squeezes him hard with her tail, not giving him a moment's notice.

MAES: Y-you want me to go this deep?
MAES: Screwing your throat in the back room?
MAES: You wouldn't be able to pull away easily...

The proxy nips at the cat's ear, her own heavy breath betraying that even now, the rooks all shared Charon's sensations between them.

MAES: J-jealous, Kettle?
MAES: I thought you got your turn....

She returns the nip, the proxy's mouth tantalizingly close to hers. Kettle attempts to press muzzles, her own turn to whine. Maes doesn't pull away, a soft laugh escaping her.

[id: kettle leaning in, her muzzle very close to maes' cheek . maes braces for impact, clearly amused and having a wonderful time of it.]

MAES: Dangerously close to kissing, Kettle...

A little playful bump of noses.

MAES: You're going to make Judgment jealous.
MAES: ...unless...he'd like that...

The ghost lets out a tiny noise of confirmation, followed by another whine.

MAES: And I do trust you...

The proxy cups the cat's face and chitters.

If you've been thinking about kissing him, you better give me one too.

MAES: ...okay.

She takes a deep breath.

MAES: ...you promise you won't judge?
CHARON: Mm...

She moves in for a kiss-

-complete with full tongue.

The proxy is surprisingly slow and careful, perhaps more than just her involved in the process. Maes was far more sloppy, almost like she didn't know how to match that.

The ghost notices and takes lead, helping her navigate. Her hands latches on carefully to the cat's own, small quirks in her motions cycling between those of the others.

Broth's nervous touches, Mar's passionate embrace, Kettle's playful tickling, Flor's careful examination...

Charon's loyal squeeze, reassuring her that none of them were going anywhere.

A truly collaborative effort.

MAES: Hhah...

She slowly eases into her partners' pace, learning to be more gentle in real time.

There's a distinct bite on the tongue that's Charon's. Flor's specific coiling of fingers around hers, finding the right spots to touch.

MAES: M-mm...

She's having difficulty getting words out, practically melting into the touch.

The ghost feels along her neck and shoulders, all the way down her back.

In this realm we all exist at the same time.. complete.

MAES: M-more...

Kettle leans against her and into the kiss, running her hands over any sore spot she had told Charon about.

Judgment out there is all of us in harmony.. in here I'm all of them. Pieces, masks, characters..

MAES: I w-want it... I-

A little whine, her voice dazed from all the stimulation.

Kettle hasn't tired out because right now.. I think I'm her the most.

She tries to climb on top, Maes pushing her gently down-

MAES: ...you're going to want to get Judgment out of there first.
MAES: He's- hang on-

She manages to pull out of his throat, leaving him gasping and hacking up what remained after swallowing. He flops over on his side, taking a moment to rest and recover.

I don't know which one of us is more real right now but...

MAES:  I just want you all...

Boss...

MAES: I...I think I'm ready.

Mm?

She brushes her hips against the ghost's, making a little wince as her thighs make contact.

MAES: ...though that may be a problem.

RE: [PCA] UNIVERSAL CONSTANTS - skinstealer - 05-25-2026

You can push it in..

MAES: No, it's- the leg wounds.

A-ah!

The ghost repositions to get some weight off of her, ears flopping back as Maes tucks herself back in. There's a look of guilt on both of their faces, the mood shifting quickly from intensely passionate to nervous- everything having to end so suddenly.

Sorry..

MAES: No, I...I want to, I just.
MAES: ...god, now I feel extra stupid for doing it.

You want to go all the way but it hurts too much.

Maes sighs, looking even more frustrated now.

MAES: ...not as if that's not normal for me regardless...

If only you were like us, right?  Many dolls with the same strings taking turns playing the puppeteer.

MAES: You do make it sound appealing.

You'd be able to play things out as another you while Maes Artag gets to rest.

The karacel's ear twitches, snapping her out of her rumination if only for the moment.

MAES: ...what do you mean?

Our experiences are shared, every warm moment felt by each of us.. But folks want turns to play things out as themselves too.

MAES: Yes, but...what do you mean, another you?

A proxy, at least in our case specifically. None of us are any less Charon Judgment

Maes folds her hands, sinking into the bed.

MAES: I mean- I don't have one-
MAES: ...
MAES: I mean...I have been having these, weird dreams-

...Oh?

MAES: ...they're just dreams, but.
MAES: Another you reminded me.
MAES: I usually look and feel like myself in dreams, but-
MAES: Lately it's been strange, and last night, it was so vivid...

...Like?

MAES: ...it feels embarrassing to say.

You don't have to share.

MAES: ...yes, I know.
MAES: I just.
MAES: It nags at me.
MAES: But it was just a dream-
MAES: I don't get it.

Maybe resting here will help.. there's more lucidity and clarity to dreams in this castle.

MAES: ...could we sleep on this, then?
MAES: I tend to heal quickly, so...maybe with a little time...

Mmhmm..

It's awkward as the blankets are ruffled, put back into proper place- the mess wiped up as much as Kettle and Maes can with their bodies weak, sheets used as rags tossed to the side for later.

After it's said and done, Kettle flops over to the side for Maes to pull her in close, the cat reaching her spare arm around for Charon.

The dog scoots toward her touch, snuggling up under her arm. The ghost resting on the other side is very still, almost like a toy.

MAES: ...is it really okay that I stay here?

The dog finally speaks up, his body having been practically knocked out during cleanup.

CHARON: As long as you don't mind the occasional magical oddity.
MAES: I'd say I'm enjoying those so far.
CHARON: Good to note.. really went further than I thought to be quite honest, all of them are knocked out.
MAES: I don't really know what got into me...
CHARON: I'm impressed honestly.
MAES: ...oh?
CHARON: Managed most of the crew.
CHARON: Tired Kettle out enough to get her to share at the end.
MAES: I just-
MAES: I know I don't technically have work tomorrow, so...
CHARON: We're making after hours into a vacation really.
MAES: ...oddly enough, I don't think I mind.

She rolls over, leaning in.

MAES: ...can I wish you goodnight?
CHARON: Absolutely.

[id: maes and charon leaning in for a careful, goodnight kiss- both of them covered in messy hair and ruffled fur.]

Maes moves in for another kiss, far gentler this time. Charon returns it with just as much softness, letting her taste the remaining slime on his lip before she reaches up to wipe it clean.

MAES: ...is it like you hoped?
CHARON: Better.
MAES: Me too.
CHARON: Can I try something tomorrow?
MAES: ...oh?
CHARON: The others let me show pieces that I can't always express myself so... I'd like to try being the others more so you can see the rest.
MAES: I'd like that.

She rests her head against his chest, closing her eyes.

MAES: ...Good night, Charon.
CHARON: Goodnight, Boss.
